We always had Tinkerbelle gifts since the girls were babies. However, at ages 11 and 14, I was thinking we should end this tradition. One day while driving in the car with them I said, "Oh, by the way, Tinkerbelle called me today." That got their attention and they looked up from their cell phones. "What did she want?," the oldest asked playing along. I replied "She said she knows you both are getting older and her gifts are really meant for littler kids. She doesn't want you to think she has forgotten about you though so she has an idea. Rather than a gift every day, she would like to leave you a gift card on the first night so that you can pick out your own gifts all week. What would you think about that?" I was ready to go either way with this. If they had replied that they wanted to keep getting the daily gifts, I would have done so. But they said they liked the gift card idea so that's what we did. On the first morning of the trip they each got a lovely letter from Tinkerbelle (in her own font) saying how much she enjoyed watching them grow into such lovely young ladies and that she knew they would continue to help her spread pixie dust into the world as they grew older. And with it was a $50 Disney gift card.
Some gifts for older girls: travel size sun lotion, travel size items from Bath and Body store, eos lip balm, gel pens, small cosmetic bags or small pencil bags, vera Bradley id cases, vera Bradley lanyards, shinny pennies and quarters for pressed penny machines, work search or other game books, new ear buds, soft socks (to wear as slippers in the hotel room), a new paperback I knew they would like (last day gift for the way home), coupon for a new magazine from the airport gift shops for plane ride), coupon for a Disney t-shirt, small bags of fruit snacks, other candies, tootsie roll suckers, tsum tsum stuffed animals.
Have a fun trip.
