Half day park, AK or HS?

I am going to WDW from April 30th-May 4th with my husband and 2 kids (7yrs and 19 months at time of travel). We are only there for 5 days 4 nights, the first and last day are traveling to and leaving from. I am thinking of doing a half park day on arrival, my husband doesn't want to do the park on the day we leave, because we do have to drive home. My question is AK more a half day park or HS at this point? I don't think the Avatar stuff will be open until later next year, so I wouldn't miss any of that. I haven't been to HS since '98 and have never done AK.

I would do AK for half day especially since you haven't been there yet. We just came back last week from a week long trip and Me and my three kids chose to skip HS and do AK.

What is your seven year old more interested in: animals or Star Wars/Toy Story...?

For us, AK was a half day park but we really could have used two full days for DHS. My son loved Jedi Training and both kids wanted to ride TSMM over and over.

I was worried about the same thing, panicked and added an extra day to the trip. We are now leaving after school the night before instead to get an extra day.

He is more interested in Star Wars, but he has seen youtube videos of AK and tells me how bad he wants to go. What time is Jedi Training? I have heard you have to get there early to sign up.

Yeah I have been considering driving in the day before and staying at an offsite hotel. Then we could get up and have a park day, check in, spend some time in the hotel and then go back to the park. If I can get a decent deal on a hotel that is a viable option.

Jedi Training happens every hour throughout the day. If it's a very busy day, then yes you need to get there in the park first hour. If it's not a very busy time, you can still get a later timeslot.

Do you have park hoppers?

No, we stuck with base tickets. That is good to know that is every hour, that makes me feel better about him getting a chance to participate.
