We will be staying at a disney resort the night before our cruise. What is the cheapest way for us to get to the port to board the ship??

Will you be arriving at Orlando International Airport (MCO)? You can check one-way rental prices from MCO to Port Canaveral. We just returned from a December holiday sailing and spent two days pre-cruise at Universal. We picked up a one-way rental from MCO which we used to drive to Universal and to the cruise terminal as well as Walmart to pick up last-minute items for the cruise. That 2-day one-way rental from Budget cost us just $75 (Costco travel) and about $5 in gas!

The return one-way from Port Canaveral to MCO was more expensive--$220 for 4 days probably because it was the week between Christmas and New Year, but still cheaper than other options that would cover transportation for our family from port to Disney World and from Disney World to MCO with a few shopping and sightseeing trips in between.

Yes cost co travel for the outbound rental car and on return because the price is so high we do a private car.

How many people are you traveling with? It might be cheaper to get a car if you have quite a few people. If it is just the two of you, could be shuttle being the cheapest. My wife and her friend are paying $55 round trip from Disney to Port Canaveral and from Port Canaveral to MCO

We did just this in July. We hired Tony Hinds to get us from POP to Freedom of the seas, and then from the ship to Daytona airport. I would have done some one way rentals, but since there were six in our party, that would have required a minivan.

If you go to cruise critic and do a search on the ports forums, there are dozens of threads on getting from the resorts to the port and from the port to MCO.

When I took my last Disney cruise, in 2010, there was no charge since I was staying at a Disney resort.

Transfers from Disney resorts to the port (or the other way), if you are using DCL, are not free - they are $35 per person, each way. The only "free" offsite transportation for resort guests is between the Disney resorts and the Orlando airport.

Disney doesn't offer port transfers to anyone sailing on another line.

Car rental or hiring a car service would be the best bets for someone sailing on RCL. Shared hire shuttles may be cheaper for parties of one or two but will take longer.
