Here now and my (and my husbands) observation about difference in guests

Who cares if locals want to come and waste their time at Disneyland? Do you think you are more important than people who just want to hang out at Disneyland? You are not more entitled to a Disneyland day/trip than the locals. While it's annoying that teenagers are constantly taking pictures in dark rides, I don't really care if they are doing it in line or standing by the castle or on rides like the Carousel or swings, they're just having fun. They're teenagers.

Also, I have found tourists are the ones who stop in the middle of the walkway because they don't know where they need to go, where to sit for parades/fireworks, where to eat. I have also found that tourists are quite rude compared to the locals and about the locals "I paid (whatever amount of money) I deserve to be here more than you! I deserve to sit in this spot more than you! (even though that person has been sitting there longer) I don't have to stand up to watch PTN, I paid a lot of money to be here! (after a CM asked someone to stand up because they weren't on the curbside row, which is the only row where you can sit)
But not all tourists are like that, some of them are really kind and are so excited to be there. I'm sure there are locals that have been rude as well, but just trying to pin it on the locals is unrealistic. You are going to run into a lot of rude people especially at Disney because they have this "I paid a lot of money to be here and screw everyone else" mentality. You just have to not let it effect you unless they actually attack you/your child.

This week is a busy week because everyone who has been blocked out gets to finally return to Disneyland, I'd say in a few weeks it will be better.
Sorry your trip didn't go as you wanted it.

We go to Disneyland every year, I've never had that experience before. I have no idea who the locals and who the tourists are, I've never paid attention and quite frankly, I don't care. We love both WDW and DL, we just love being there, and we certainly don't let people taking selfies bother us. Sorry you had a bad experience :-(

Oh sure. I think we all get it. Disneyland would be GREAT if WE were the only ones there. I wish I were a Kardashian or Mariah Carey or Miley Cyrus who *could* rent out the park if I chose to. Alas, we are surrounded. :)

Well, my "hate" for the Disneyland People is tongue in cheek. I did not agree with the OP about them being rude )or at least any more rude than they are at WDW). Most people were very friendly, and overall the enthusiasm you get at DL overrides any negatives.

Disneyland feels a lot smaller. And when the locals came at night, it was so crowded, walking ANYWHERE felt like main street when there's a parade! And it was february! We also notice at night they were a LOT of teenagers just hanging around and I wouldnt have minded at all, but a lot werent careful of stroller and little ones. At WDW, it's mostly family. At DL, teenagers were running around, jumping over ropped lines, bumping us and our stroller, etc. Lots of line cutting and people saving their whole friends and family spots in a line, while I've never notice any of that at WDW.

I still loved it, but I did felt annoyed at time, while I've never felt that way at WDW... I guess it's the "Disney bubble"... it's just not there at DL like at WDW.

Also it also has to do with what are you trying to see/do in regards to "locals/regulars" as compared to a first time visitor.

Some attractions have been designed for "repeatability" such as Midway Mania at DCA and Voyage of the Iron Reef at Knott's.

But the main draw for many of the locals are shows and parades, as they use different performers depending on the day (think the Aladdin Genie) and can change things around (such as difference versions of Fireworks during the year).

Let's talk about the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show (now known as Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies at Knott's), their song selection is based on the time of the year, and who is performing that day. I was lucky enough to see just the "Hillbillies" one day at Disneyland, as all Billy Hills were not available, and the scheduled one called in sick. It was strange to only have 3 performers, but they made it work. Once again, an interactive experience with changes. (Heck, one of the Hillbillies attended my wedding...)

So yes, you will see those folks do things like try and save a large space for multiple people early in the day. Disney (and other parks) have tried to reduce the issue with time limits, etc. But when it comes down to it, it is first come, first serve.

Since the 60th Annviersary special events are coming to an end (well, Paint the Night might return during peak periods for the next few months). So I would take that into my planning if visiting prior to September 6th.

we are WDW vets, go at least twice a year. We have been to DL 3 times since April of 2015. We have noticed a huge difference in guests and guest behavior between the 2. We have been here since last Friday and I was ready to go home by yesterday-because of the guests. Like I said, this is only my opinion.

1. There are so many more locals at DL. It is very clear that many people are here to just waste some time. I have never seen so many people walk so slowly around a Disney Park. And with it being smaller, it is impossible to get around them. And people just stop and stand anywhere they please.
2. The guests behavior seems so much worse here than it is a WDW. People are continuously budging in line and just being plain rude.
3. It is almost like it is a teen hang out most of the day and especially at night. I feel like I am at six flags! Teens all over and the selfies, my god the selfies. They are taking them everywhere and it is highly annoying. I had a bunch in front of me (3 rows full) on pirates and they were taking selfies the entire time!
4. Finally, a lot of the people seem very "rough" never in my life of going to Disneyworld have I been called a dumb *** *****. But I was tonight by a guy that I was walking by with my 12 year old son. He apparently was mad that I walked in front of him. But I was just trying to get around him as we were trying to get somewhere and he kept stopping every 3 second to see if it was a good spot for fireworks. Mind you, we were all in the middle of the cattle call from one side of the park to the other. You were not even supposed to the stopping where we were walking.
Anyway, we leave Saturday and I am very ready. Unfortunately we have decided we are done with DL for a very long time.

I'm sorry you had that experience. We are vets of both WDW and DLR, with DLR being our go-to-choice lately, and we've never experienced the behavior that you've experienced on either coast. I don't doubt that this is what your experience was, and that is truly unfortunate, but I want to give you some hope that if/when you do decide to return in the future that you'll very possibly have a very different experience.

We are AP holders but not true locals as we are 6 hours away but we love to help people and offer advice as much as we can. I can't recall the number of times we've educated others on the fact it's not just one FP a day ! We love sharing some hidden gens and secrets as it makes the whole experience better and in turn they share it , etc.

I think our biggest pet peeve admittedly is anyone stopping mid walkway to do anything because not everyone can stop on a dime or may be distracted , etc. I'm at fault too I've done it but do my best to go to the side as much as possible . We are all human of course but I do think some individuals no matter where they are in life can't help but focus on everything that didn't go as they expected because it's "Disney".

Just last week when Indy broke down while we were in line I recall a family grumbling about how " we are waiting because this is wasting my money", I certainly understand the disappointment and frustration and don't know their story but even once on the ride they seemed unhappy../shrug.

I'm sorry for your bad experience. I know when we go, usually the slow movers are the tourists as they are looking for where X is or which direction is Y....

As for the selfies, while I have seen this happen (teens and adults alike) I've never experienced it as bad as what you felt. We were there last weekend, and had a blast! Didn't see what you were describing on Friday or Sat. I hope today has been better. If not, at least you can still enjoy WDW.

All I know is that NEVER in all of my hundreds visits to Disneyland have we seen a couple popping zits on each other's back however in the three times we have been to WDW we have seen this. I will take locals and cuss words anyway! :lmao:

I'm a little afraid I'm one of the "rougher" looking people you're talking about.... 7, 15+ hour days touring Disneyland will do that to a person! :rotfl:

All joking aside, I'm sorry you've had such a lousy time. We're from out-of-state and have (knock on wood) never experienced anything similar to what you've experienced, and we've been going for over 17 years (at least once a year). I'm usually so immersed in the magic and so focused on my own family that I rarely notice others (for better or worse).

I'm actually surprised that some people are able to easily tell who is a local/AP and who is a tourist. Unless they go waving their ticket around and scream "I'm a local Annual Passholder!!", I can't tell who is from where or what ticket media they used to get into the park. Again, I'm just too focused on other things to notice the people around me. Probably just because I can be really oblivious! lol

I think I can probably count on one hand all the negative experiences that we've had in the past 17 years, and now we just remember those times and laugh because the people were so ridiculous.

I'm concerned I was one of the rougher guests too... Full days rope drop to second parade and 14 tattoos will do that to a girl. We also camped out for 2 hours to see Paint the Night a couple of times, immediately got on Storybook Land Canal Boats when it reopened after the fireworks then moved up and watched the parade a second time from the second row on Main Street... I did a lot of research and followed locals. I also befriended a guy who was willing to change my Made with Magic Minnie ears to blue (my favorite colour) every time he saw me wearing them. Plus I tan really well - by the end of out 8 night trip everyone was assuming we were locals and asking for advice - which I was always happy to give. I met some truly awesome people on my trip!

(Wow I can't type on my first night back at work lol)

I totally went to Disneyland today to "waste time" while my kids were in school. I do this every week during the school year.

Why does that bother you so much? If you lived 15 min away, you'd do it too.

Maybe you should move closer to a Disney park so you can be a "local".
