Debt Dumpers - 2016

Guess who accepted a verbal offer of a job yesterday evening?! :) It was the first one I interviewed with, the one that's a little farther away (the commute is gonna suck) but with the manager who made me feel very comfortable. The HR lady, who previously had told me their range was lower than my previous salary, offered me slightly more than I was making when I was laid off (like, $1000 more) so I won't be taking a pay cut! This place has free parking and kicks in 10% for retirement once I qualify after three months being there. So happy and relieved. I know it didn't take very long at all but it's been a long summer of stress. Not sure when I start, depends on background check.

Congrats!

Congrats! That's great news, and didn't even have a paycut! And even though you'll have the longer commute, at least you'll get a little more money and free parking out of it!

So good news from here as well! DH just got the call with the job offer. He will be a programmer analyst at the survey research center at the same University at which I work! His start date is September 12. He seems so relieved. This is such a big weight off his shoulders and he seems really excited to get started. We have some shopping to do this weekend since he will need more business casual clothes.

Woohoo! Great news for everybody on the job front this week! So happy to hear this! And now hopefully he can have a relaxing couple of weeks off before he starts too!

Awesome! That may well be my start date as well. Have fun shopping!

Oh that's awesome, yay!!!:flower1:

Ugh. Cars are such a pain. Our van has automatic doors and one of them is broken, there's a cord hanging down that's loose or detached. It will start to open and then stops. Luckily we can pull it shut manually. Not sure we will even fix it bc the car is old and recently has started falling apart. I think we're done paying on our other car in maybe six months (can't remember)...then we'll start looking for a new van. Only want one payment at a time.
That happened to us, and it would have been a huge bill so we manually opened the doors and clipped the cord. Good luck!!

Have a promotion interview tomorrow!!! Hoping to get it as its much better hours then I work right now ( I will be working 6am to 2:30pm instead of 12:30 to 9pm.) and a nice pay bump.

Had some bad things happen which is hurting the budget. Got removed from my parents so living in a hotel till an apartment or house pops up. boyfriend's work is paying for the hotel stay. We are getting moved to a residence inn with a huge kitchen cause we have to buy food almost every night.

I also have to reduce my hours this week. Instead of working my full shift I'm only working 4 hours everyday but Friday.

Had to buy a valve pump for my car as my car is eating $200 worth of gas a week.

The good news is I have an appeals hearing today in which hopefully I get my unemployment benefits that are owed to me! (Over $600)

Good luck with the promotion interview @arlinar!

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I've been making progress and just paid off one credit card. Planning to transfer a higher interest balance to a 0% offer I just received and then continue snowball payment to the next card.
Murphy has been annoying this summer. $1,800 in car repairs, refrigerator had to be replaced $2,200 (grrrr) but payments are 0% for 24months...just ate into the snowball.

DH signed up to receive Soc. Sec. since he's reached full retirement but will continue to work. The good news is they pay retro-active for 6 months so he got a lump sum payment and we've already covered the tax that we'll have to pay at tax time. Now I just have to get over the paranoia of using that money to retire debt and stop worrying about what Murphy is going to throw at us next.

Congrats to Eureka and Jen's husband Ashwin!!! Wohoo.

We left the Dream yesterday and are at the Grand Floridian until Friday. We got upgraded to club level!!! Pixie dust all around! The dream was amazing. DH and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary with brunch at Palo. So amazing and castaway cay was gorgeous.

Onto the budget...I brought $500 with me for pocket money and have over $300 left with 3 days to go. I also brought $1600 in gift cards and have a $1000 left although we still have sci fi and narcoosees left. But, I should still easily have the $200 deposit for next years trip from this years leftover money.

I also met the minimum spend on the second Amtrak credit card and paid that off. My points have posted on one of my cards and DH's card so I can book our trip down to Florida next year with no out of pocket. I was spending $1500 previously.

The not so good is I received our insurance renewal and it's $884 for 6 months because of the new car. It was $600 previously. I need to have comp and collision since it's financed. But I do intend to shop around to see if I can lower this rate.

I have $3500 left on the car. I plan to pay another $1,000 on Friday(payday). Hopefully paid off in September and then my only extra payment will be the window loan which is no interest. $500 a month should knock it out quickly.

Oh, hello new front brakes for my car :crazy2: I know it's just maintenance and I am fortunate. But we'll also be putting out about $400 for new tires for DH this weekend. Oh well, needs to be done and I do have an honest mechanic who will tell me when something really needs to be done.

Yay!! So great guys!!

My paycheck hit the account today and I made the last payment on two of my cards!!! I moved the accounts to "closed" in YNAB (though technically I am not closing them, just letting them go inactive) and hid the category for each. It feels so great to not see these anymore. And since the 0% doesn't expire on them until next month, I ended up paying no interest!!

We now have the card with 0% until January and the card with the "student loan" also at 0% until December 2017. Once DH starts getting his paychecks, we plan to throw all of that money towards these cards. If we keep that up, we should have everything paid off by November. That is 4 months earlier than if DH didn't get the job. This means that we will no longer have any credit card debt, just the 2 cars and our mortgage. It will feel so amazing.

So come November, we have decided that we will get DH a new desktop computer, since he has been gaming on my very crappy old Dell. The fan in that computer runs none stop and it makes a terrible "chachunk, chachunk, chachunk" sound that you need to hit the case to make it stop. I will be as happy as him once we replace that piece of junk.

Congrats on your anniversary and fantastic trip so far and the upgrade pixiedust: your plan for your car and loan sounds awesome!

Shopped around for car insurance and saved $130.00 by switching to Geico. New Premium with a lower deductible for comp and collision is now $750 for 6 months instead of $884! I should also be getting a refund from 21st auto (my current insurance). I paid the geico premium in full so may have to shift some of the car payment money around.

Got my promotion offer today and will be getting into the new role Tuesday! Yay more money for Disney.

Setting up a budget for food while we are staying at the Residence inn with a kitchen. Should help with with our overall budget. Lots of happy job offers on the board lately!
