News Round Up 2016

Heck I'm worried about the Edison right now too. Progress seems so slow on it and it isn't even a Disney restuarant it's a third party.

I was feeling confident about the Edison at least... Don't scare me. I'm really looking forward to that one too.

I still kick myself about the adventurers club. It was still open my first trip with my boyfriend and cms were at the door offering free admission and i wanted to go but the bf didn't and then it was closed the next time we went :(. I love that sort of stuff. We're planning a japan/hong kong trip and hong kong is opening an adventurers style hotel and I'm going to pay whatever exorbitant price they charge.

Very jealous of the trip you are planning.

Yep this is so guests who park for free at Disney springs can't get "free parking" for going to a park.
Well, couldn't they just get on a resort bus just like they can now, and then transfer to a park bus/boat/monorail...? yeah, it's a hassle, but some will do it to save the parking fee....

Yes they can which people will park at DS and walk to SSR and take a bus.

It still doesn't stop them from overcrowding the SSR buses in the morning but should help in the evening.
Is the answer to show a room key upon boarding the busses leaving from resorts?
I'm sure this has been suggested so beyond the extra minutes it would take to board, there must be another reason they haven't instituted this policy. Aren't the busses supposed to be a perk for onsite guests only?

No room keys, just Magic Bands and you can buy a Magic Band in the gift shops.

Yes it is only for onsite guests. I'm sure the room key/magic band thing has been suggested but it's the extra amount of time that would take that would create a big bottleneck.

That's where things get a little muddy

Technically, the busses (and monorail and boats) are complimentary for every resort guest, with 'resort' meaning all of WDW property (which Disney Springs is a part of)

No Ryan, buses are for ALL guests of the Walt Disney World resort. Not just resort hotel guests.

Look at it this way, I stay off site but want to eat at Cape May for breakfast, I uber to Cape May, then want to go to the park. Now I don't have a resort key, am I not allowed to get to a park? Once at a park, I have an ADR at Boma. Now you are saying I can't take a bus to AKL?

Of course not.

My unpopular opinion would be to close off resort transportation to onsite guest only. I'd check magic bands like Charlie cards for the subway. It wouldn't be that hard but I guess Disney gets more revenue from offsite guests than complaints about crowding. We have stayed at SSR a few times in the Grandstand section and have watched the bus fill up with offsite guests at Congress Park. When we have reached the Springs section the bus was too full to pick them up.

Too much cost for WDW to worry if people are using their transportation to spend money. Why cut into that profit? Now if they had evidence that 100k people a year were just joy riding around WDW using paying customer's space, then they would have reason to want to find a solution. But I doubt people like WDW transportation that much.....

Disney advertises complimentary transportation as a resort perk which is a bit of false advertising when it's available to anyone who wants to use it.

Well, it is complimentary to resort guests. It just happens to also be complimentary to everyone.

Now ME is complimentary only to Resort guests. So, that is a perk for staying onsite.

You guys are totally wrong about Disney Transportation not being for everyone. This direct from the Disney website:

Q.
I’m not staying at a Disney Resort hotel. Can I use the monorails, buses and boats to get around Walt Disney World Resort?

A.
Yes. All Guests have complimentary access to our network of monorails, buses and boats. If you would like to visit multiple parks, enjoy a nice dinner at one of the Disney Resort hotels or shop at Disney Springs, you can leave your car parked in the theme park lot and use our transportation network.

As a former purple pants wearer and also a wearer of the new Bolivian Army General's uniform, I need to say on record that "I'm never wrong". Just ask any Bus Driver. :worship::worship:

The "Resort" is all of WDW property, so there is no false advertising there

Magical Express is complimentary for resort hotel guests

The differentiation is important
Your right the differentiation is important. All the advertising I've received has stated complimentary transportation and listed the DME separately. The resort is the whole of WDW but the wording can be misleading and lead to a lot of confusion. A lot of people I know still remember when you had to show your key to the world card for the resort monorail.
