Hello?? This place used to be great. Ate there tonight for the first time in a few years. I got the three piece combo, and the wife got the pulled pork sandwich.

While the food was certainly tasty enough, what happened to the portions?? Wifey is not a big eater but she walked away actually hungry, and that was after eating most of my corn bread (which was a puny joke).

My meal, well the plate was too darn small so it was impossible to actually cut anything, tasted great. That said, the chicken leg didn't have much meat, and the ribs had something "attached" to them tha all I could imagine was part of a lung. I'm sure it wasn't, but the position and look was a dead ringer. I almost heaved. Very little meat that I could eat. The pulled pork was indeed good, but small. The beans? Weak. Coleslaw? I don't eat that, but that's my problem not theirs. The cornbread? Small and a bit hard, possibly stale.

Wife barely had any meat on her sandwich, but what little was there tasted good.

Overall just not the Flametree that I remembered.

We ate there for the first time in June and were not impressed. The food seemed dry and very tough (especially the ribs). Our portions were really big, not that we wanted all of it though...

Had Flame Tree on Easter Sunday and wasn't all that impressed. It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't that good either. It was a lot of food (got the combo platter too), but I wasn't fond of the flavor. I'm kind of picky about BBQ though (NC BBQ FTW!). I mean, for a QS credit on the QSDP, I think it was a good value, and we got there right when they were opening, so got hot, fresh food fast and had our pick of seats under the pavilion down on the water. So it was a nice experience, I just wasn't a fan of the taste. But I don't guess that's Flame Tree's fault.
As for portion size and the amount of meat...I've always found chicken and especially ribs can be very inconsistent in that regard. No reason for them to have skimped on the pulled pork though.
I think I liked the coleslaw the best, LOL.

I've wanted to try this place for years, but I have a bird phobia and can't deal with eating around a bunch of them. If the food went downhill, that's a shame though.

I also noticed a big difference in portions over the past couple years there.

Tho I enjoy the food there, I had a very aggressive pelican type bird snatch the chicken off my salad last night! A manager was sitting near by and rushed off to get me a new salad. 5 minutes I was surrounded by ducks and the pelican was making its way back! i left! The birds freaked me out!

Yeah, that's because idjits have fed the birds in the past.

That's sad if the food is going downhill. We always enjoy eating there, and I think the last time we were there was in 2014, as during our 2015 it was closed for refurbishment (I think. Not quite positive). The birds there have always driven me crazy. I can't stand them!!

I have only eaten there once, this past May. A "snack" of cheese fries with pulled pork on top. Delicious and definitely enough to be a meal. It made me eager to try more one day, but maybe not now...

The portions are HUGE. They could be a full 50% less than what they were last time we were there (May) & it would still be an adequate amount of food for an adult.

Yep. I was there in March and couldn't finish it! What I had was good, though. I mainly recall the chicken, the cornbread, and the iced tea, so I suppose the ribs weren't the greatest. But it was still plenty! (And I can pack it away, especially when the weather is as nice as it was that week.)

I've only tried it once because everyone carries on about it, but I found it dry as a bone and it left me wishing I had some sauce or something to dip it in. Back then I don't think there was anything of the sort. It went on my "never again" list.

From what I remember there always has been dispensers of sauce at the condiment station.

My sister and I ate there once a few years ago and it definitely didn't live up to the hype. We got the combo platters (trying to get the max out of free dining) and it looked like a lot of food, but the edible portion wasn't all that much after picking out bones and grisly bits.

I'll stick to the ribs at Harambe Market. We tried those last December and they were awesome.

DW and I ate there in June. We split the full slab of ribs entrée and added a side of fries. It was too much food for us--we left most of the fries.

IMHO it's as good as it ever has been--grading it on a "park food" scale I'd call it well above average, and grading it on a non-park, BBQ restaurant scale I'd say it's average (but I'm fairly discriminating when it comes to Q).

Ribs were okay, little dry but worth the dining credit. When we went in April, we did not expect any characters at the sitting areas and was surprised to find King Louie and Baloo. We had great pictures taken with King Louie and Baloo so that was a big bonus for us eating at Flame Tree.

Weird, maybe I just didn't want to move to go and see since that was the trip where I was alone with a 6 year old and I threw my back out on day one. Ugh...not fun!

For those who say the ribs are dry: are you used to eating ribs with sauce applied before serving, or have you tried ribs with the just the dry rub and no sauce? If you've always eaten pre-sauced ribs, that might provide at least a part of the explanation. Most good rib places* serve their ribs without sauce, the reason being that you should need sauce to make properly seasoned/cooked ribs taste good.

*--Note that I'm not saying Flame Tree is close to what would be considered a "good rib place" in the real world. Just saying a lot of the rib places that have good reps don't sauce their ribs.

Is the lime mousse still served in a plastic container? I saw a picture the other day of the lime mousse and it looked more like key lime pie
