Help! Flight prices Sept vs Nov

Hi all

Hubby and I both have to organise leave pretty much now for late next year. He wants to go in September because of the better weather but I'd been working on November so had been looking at November this year for months to get an idea. I know we could probably (unless anything drastic changes) get flights for just over $1000 each return to LA in November next year, but no idea about September. If I look up early September dates for this year I get $1800 flights, nothing 'cheap', is that just because it's close now or is that what I should expect to pay if we go in September. (We'd go early to avoid most Aussie school holidays). If anyone has been in September please give me an idea on flight prices etc!!

Hi Mindy32

We generally travel to the USA in September or October and you can get what I consider very good prices on flights if you are prepared to fly out early / mid September (ie before school holidays start) or after the holidays have started (eg early October). On our next trip (in 26 days!) we are flying out on 1 September. We booked our flights in late November last year, Qantas had a sale which included $999 from Sydney to San Fran (although we paid a little more as we are coming from Canberra, plus we have some internal USA flights).

I would suggest you keep an eye out for specials and in the coming months should see some better pricing for September 2017. I am sure whatever time you decide to go you'll have a great time - good luck!

We are going this September, (15th - 28th) and paid $1260 pp with Virgin Australia, MEL - LAX via SYD.

We are considering going to DL the same time next year. Just out of interest, when did you book these flights? It would be good to know when I should be on the look out for good fares like this!

Excellent, thanks so much for the replies. $1200 etc sounds good, the closer to $1k the better, but would like to at least keep it to around $2.5k between the two of us so will keep my eye on flights as they get released (assuming DH's leave gets approved soon! :( )

We booked these on the 2nd of May. I normally book directly myself, but we have people coming with us and I was terrified I would make a mistake, so I used a (well-recommended by friends) travel agent, and she could see when any sales would end, which was helpful!

We're currently restricted to school holidays (give or take a day or two) as my daughter is now in VCE, so I don't think I'll get $1k fares until she is finished high school!

We went in September a couple of years ago and agree with @Montanabel that you will need to fly early to mid September to get the cheaper flight rates. We flew Virgin but it was booked as a Delta flight - for about $1200 as well from memory. I will just throw it out there so that you know - September is the hottest month in SoCal - and I mean some days really hot! We had a couple of 40 C days - there are lots of ways to cool down lol but it is warm. In saying that I would rather be hot than cold at DL then you can really enjoy those water rides where you get wet without worrying :)

Besides this year we have always travelled in September and have never paid more that 1200 for the flights, Also I suggest you keep an eye out on secret flying as they will let you know of any great deals available. If you are traveling to WDW then you don't have to worry about school holidays as such but if going to Disneyland it becomes full of aussies during the school holidays. We timed it wrong last time and ended up at DL during the school holidays and nearly everyone we came across had aussie or new Zealand accents. 2nd week of September is a great time to travel to WDW in relation to crowds - that's why we always go then. Most rides max 10 wait, only the newer rides and toy story had long wait times.

Thank you very much for the replies. Good to know the second week would be a good time. We'd probably be in WDW around the 12th so shouldn't be too bad then. So glad to know you've got reasonably priced flights in September too!
