Hotel Activities if Hurricane Hits?

You will not be "allowed" to leave your room during active storming since you have no interior hallways. Since you have girls why not just pack nail polish, facial masks and some other small items so if need be you can do a "spa" day in your room.

Excellent idea! :thumbsup2

Room & esp window decorating is big at POP and its inexpensive to grab some window clings at a $ store or on amazon. They pack flat in the bottom of your checked bag. Same with small pop open tissue animals & decorations. Beistle makes some neat & different ones. Depending on your kids, arranging & re-arranging decorations could take hrs. :-) My niece loves these card games & we played the following for hrs (literally) at the cottage this summer: Clue Suspect, Squarrels and also Gubs. But chances are, the weather will be fine & they will stay in your suitcase.

We were at POP when Hurricane Charley made a detour right for WDW. Disney closed the parks at 2 PM the day of the storm and it was a "hard" close. Not even shops were open at the MK after 2 PM. The food court stayed open until around 6PM I think and then we hunkered down for the storm which arrived around 10PM. They showed endless Disney movies on the TV between times. The food court re-opened around midnight.

I tried to go out to the Publix for snacks around 4:00 and the outer bands of the storm were already hitting pretty hard. I have photos that I'll post later if I can find them :).

I land on Monday :scared: weather.com daily forecast isn't looking good regardless if it actually hits central Florida or not.

Good news is as of this morning's news report Orlando really has nothing to worry about. Still time for that to change of course but even then, it's not over the weekend, it's later, more like Wednesday.

Trip is next Friday, so, hoping for a Disney miracle as well!

Our family flies into Orlando this Sunday, and there is a storm projected to hit south and central Florida over the weekend. I know we are days out and all the models are not 100%, but if it does evolve into a hurricane hitting Central Florida and park touring is not an option, do they take the poolside activities indoors? We are staying at Pop Century.

Also, any tips for "in the room fun" for families? I'm thinking I should add playing cards to the packing list and I could always download that app that is like the headbands game...can't think of the name, but you hold your phone on your forehead facing others and a word pops onto the screen that you have to try to guess. Anyone been in the same boat and have suggestions? We are flying so have limited luggage space for board games.

We are a family of 8: Mom, husband/myself, son 12, daughter 10, nieces 9, 7, and 6.

Thanks!

Disney World has closed three times, all in anticipation of hurricanes: Sept. 15, 1999, for Floyd; Sept. 4-5, 2004, for Frances; and Sept. 26 of that same year for Jeanne

the odds are with you -- in anticipation of star wars land - may the force be with you too.

That still shows most models keeping it to the south of Orlando. I'd be worried with a trip to the Keys or Miami this weekend/early next week. Orlando, not so much. Not yet at least.

Way too early to worry about rain just now too. Forecast will change daily between now and then

The best time we've ever had at WDW was during TS Andrea in early June, 2013. We toured MK the day it blew through, and it felt like we had the park to ourselves. No lines for most rides, and the longest we waited that day for any ride was probably 10 minutes. Rained like crazy the entire day, and pretty windy, but no rides closed, and we donned the ponchos and had a great time.

It's Florida, used to live there so i expect rain regardless. I see the model they have posted but no real info on that model picture. The other one i saw this morning still had the majority of the models hitting central FL, so hopefully that was just an old source.

We were at the WL during Charlie. They closed the parks around 12 or 1, not sure exactly. We went back to the WL, and for a period of time they had organized activities in the lobby, and even brought in some costumed characters. Eventually they told everyone to go back to your rooms (I think someone looked up and realized the lobby had a large wall of windows facing the courtyard which wouldn't be a good idea to be near if things started to fly outside). They pumped free Disney feature cartoons on the resort TV channels, and they sold boxed meals you could take back to your room. They asked all guests with balconies to move the furniture into the room, and at one point they went door to door and passed out flashlights. We were lucky being in a hotel with one building and inside hallways, rather than other resorts with separate buildings, as you could at go exploring the hallways once you started getting bored. It was kind of interesting watching the staff working outside (they did put the pool furniture into the pool to keep it from flying around), and Bay Lake really started to churn.

This is the one I saw this morning, where majority are showing it going south and missing most of Central FL. I can't find it now but there was one that included rainfall amounts. Orlando was in the 1" range. Miami in the 10+" range. I would assume the rainfall amounts were based on an avg of the below projections. Since we arrive on Saturday and leave on Wednesday I'm watching closely. Sadly, the bad news is if the storm misses Orlando it likely means more rain for Louisiana.

Yeah this is the second one i saw as well. Boo to the green line!!! Still creates a few problems depending on intensity for our plans. We have family that is meeting us at Poly mid trip. They are supposed to drive from Tampa on Wednesday. Hopefully it says to the west.

But yeah if it does stay to the west it is really bad news for Louisiana.

Time will tell! Eyes on the weather!

If i get some good sunshine i will offer tribute to the Tiki gods at Trader Sams.

Is anyone else amused that there is a Tropical Storm Gaston in the Atlantic?

This all seems a bit premature to be talking about buying supplies etc. The disturbance SE of Florida hasn't even formed as of yet and all of the discussion has talked about possible formation to Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm. Nothing about hurricane. And Disney bring inland hasn't been prone to hurricane hits and most go south or east of it. Even with a hurricane passing buy they are most often in the TS force winds zone. They have closed a few times for hurricanes, about 5 I think, but so far never for a full day. Wait for something definite before worrying about closure and that means a definite track going through central Florida. Otherwise, just plan for rain and gusty winds.
