So I am considering renting points for our trip next yr. Am I allowed to post my wants on the rent/trade board or is that just for DVC owners to post points they have available to sell? If I am allowed to post on that board and I think I might need to have my choice booked at 11mo's can I start hunting for a seller at 12 mo out? TIA

Not allowed to post your requests. This rent/trade board (RTB) only allows owners to post avail.

There is a primer at the top of the RTB.

You are certainly allowed to ask current renters on the RTB if they will book for you at the start of the 11 month window, although that's probably not necessary.

1. Most home resort options don't book immediately at 11 months.

2. The few high demand rooms that DO book at exactly 11 months are sought by owners to a degree that all but eliminates avail to renters. Very few people would work their rental points that hard to compete for an 11 month prime booking for a renter. Buy those are very few rooms: concierge and value rooms at AKV, and BWV stnd, VGF, and VGC at peak times, for example.

If you're looking for an 11 month window, anytime just inside the window will work fine for renting. Anything at exactly 11 months isn't going to realistically be avail as a rental.

I rented 10 or so times before buying. In many cases I needed the owner to book at the 11 month mark since the time of year and room booked were in extremely high demand (BWV standard or VWL 2-bedroom 1st week in December.) I was always able to find an owner just prior to the 11-month mark and agree on the rental. I would start looking about 2 weeks before the 11 month mark. Some owners won't want to wait even the two weeks to book, but I was always able to find someone eventually. Good luck!

I disagree. As an owner, I prefer to work in advance of the 11-month window, and I'm happy to book at 8am on the day.

I've always found that the only rooms* that require booking immediately are the lower cost rooms. And, since you'll likely pay a premium To rent those points, you're better off waiting and booking a higher-cost room with cheaper points.

*with the exception of AKV club level

Thanks for everyones replies.

Supersnoop "I've always found that the only rooms* that require booking immediately are the lower cost rooms. It depends. Studios often are the first to go, but I think supersnoop was particularly talking about standard view at BWV & BLT, and maybe others, and value at AKV.

It depends on the time of year October- January is a very busy time for DVC especially during Food and Wine and MNSSHP. If you are looking for a studio on the monorail or and Epcot resort. These do need to be book at the 11 month window or VERY shortly after. I started looking for and owner on the RTB now and got lucky and found one willing to work with me for and October 2017 reservation. Reach out to someone with points now the worst they can say is no try don't want to wait to rent their points. But you may be pleasantly surprised as I was. Also read the renting DVC point stickys. Thy are extremely helpful. Good Luck!
