Bag check at entry

We are planning to stay onsite and I am wondering what security is like lately. Is it worth it to go bagless or is bag check quick and simple?

There's no separate line for 'no bags' so going bagless won't save you any time. You still have to wait in line.

Very good to know, thanks! I prefer to have a bag but at Seaworld in Orlando this summer, the entry process was way shorter bagless which made me never want to bring a bag again. Glad to hear that's not the case at DL.

When we were there last month, they were not checking bags of people with strollers. The line at the Grand Californian was a mess during early entry. They started just waving through anyone with a stroller and their family. They didn't checks the bags underneath their strollers! The rest of us suckers had to wait in line for bag check, then go through the metal detector. They wasted ten minutes on an elderly gentleman with a large belt buckle. Made him pass through the detector a number of times, etc. Yet stroller people... no problemo.

I guess I'm still miffed. :rotfl2:

FWIW, it took me all of about 30 seconds to make it through the security check last Sunday around 7:15 a.m. I was only carrying a small, mostly transparent bag with my lunch in it.

Stupid question here - If you have things like EpiPens in your bag, would you need a letter stating what they are and what they are for?

We had them last time and they were not an issue, but with security tighter now, would anyone know if they are considered an issue, that we need to provide a letter for?

We will have a letter for the airlines, just not sure if to carry that letter in the parks too.

Thanks

When I went in late May, I had no issue with my epis. One security guy did ask what they were, told him epinephrine injectors for allergic reactions, he said ok and moved me along.

I think they are probably looking for obvious contraband/weapons or suspicious objects which is why it probably goes pretty quick

I asked a friend at DL tonight whether she had ever had any problems with her epi pens at bag check. She said that no one had ever even asked her about them. So you should be fine.

When we were there yesterday, they took away a bouncy ball. Tell CM said he had to take it because it lights up.

Going back from DTD, there was an argument with a guest over a GoPro moun . We didn't stick around to see if they took it or if he went back to the car/hotel

My son wants to have his lightsaber signed by Kylo Ren, will he be able to bring it in?

Wait.....you cant bring in things that light up?? Wonder if it was because it was a ball? Hope this is not the case as I was planning to bring in small light up toys for my kiddos...similar to the ones they sell inside. :worried:

I've never had an issue with bag check. It's really painless, they just have you put the bags on the counter and they do a quick check inside. We also bring in food and drinks. No issues.

Interesting about the light up ball. I'm assuming it's something to do with it being a ball? There are light sabers and all sorts of light up toys at the parks for sale.

There's absolutely nothing in the policy that would preclude bringing in a light-up toy unless it was remote controlled.

As others have mentioned, there is no "no bag" line. So not having one will only save you a few seconds. I just got back today and just wanted to add that security is very random, especially with the metal detectors. Sometimes they required everyone to enter through the metal detectors, other times they selected random people, and one time I noticed only those entering through a certain line had to go through them.

While bag check only takes 30 seconds of so, during that time at least 10 people without bags could cruise by.
So a no-bag line would help reduce the lines significantly just like it does at WDW.

DLR has tried the no bag line and it was a complete failure. Guests cannot process that NO bag really means ZERO bags. One guest with no bag would try to bring in friends and family, all of whom had bags. The "yeah, I know, but they're with me..." excuse makes the whole no bag line a farce.
