Turn Your Face Towards the Sun

For some reason I’ve almost always felt rushed when I’ve stood in front of the castle. I’m usually trying to get a photograph of it, though I already have many. But its one of the most iconic things about Disneyland, it’s the “heart” of the park. So even if I have that exact angle, I know I’ll photograph it again like it’s the first time.

I feel rushed because while I’m trying to make a photograph, take a “selfie” or just stand and take it all in, I’m aware that others are trying to get that once in a life time shot. Maybe its their first time to the park, we all know that feeling even if we’ve been a hundred times. So I’m conscious of trying to let others get their shot too.

I feel rushed because like those photos of children on opening day I just want to run across that bridge and through that arch.

I feel rushed because I know there are so many wonders awaiting, and that even the most magical day will come to an end.

You know you can’t see the Castle from the main gate, or from the flowers in the shape of Mickey Mouse in front of the Main Street Station? You can’t see the Castle as you pass through either of the tunnels under the railroad tracks either. You know Disneyland was designed this way? It’s not until you round the bend and come to the start of Main Street that you really get your first glimpse of the Castle. The main gate, Mickey flowers, tunnels and train station are the “curtain”. This first view of the Castle is the “first act” and all of this was not unintentional. It’s a beautiful show where we as guests have been invited up on stage to live for a time within the Most Magical Place on Earth.
