Bell, Rogers, Telus who gives the best service

I'm with Bell Mobility. I only use my cell phone for emergencies, and have a $10.00 /month plan that I'm happy with. Now, I learn that bell is phasing out the service for flip phones and want us all to upgrade to a smart phone. If I have to do that, I'll likely switch to Telus or another service provider, simply because I don't care too much for Bell Mobility customer service. Bell does have more towers for better coverage, but many service providers use bell's towers anyway, so I don't think that is too much of a worry. I'm also reasoning that all the service providers might be the same when it comes to customer service. Is one better than another?

Seriously....Bell is phasing out the flip phone service now....I have a prepaid cell that I only use for emergencies...I was grandfathered in to be able to use it in the US...then Bell made me upgrade to a flip phone and I lost the ability to use my phone in the US. I don't really want to get a smart phone or have a monthly fee especially since I only use it for emergencies (yes, I know I am wierd), the $100 prepaid card for a year works great for me...

OK here's what you can do if in fact that happens ... buy the Breeze phone thru ROAM mobility .. it has a dual -sim card slot and is unlocked on the Rogers service. It's a basic phone that works fine! I'm on a yearly plan thru Rogers as i stated above -- 120.00 per YEAR unlimited texts and free local calls evenings and weekends. When we go stateside i flip to the ROAM Sim card and pay 4.00 per day for unlimited text and talk to/from Canada and the States.

Thanks Jacqueline....I will check it out....however I am going to dislike loosing the over $300 in credits still sitting on my Bell pre-paid phone...

Yup *she* meant for a YEAR ... honest it is ... i can give you a link but not sure if it's "legal" here?? It's only for unlimited texting and free local calls evenings and weekends though, no data but i only use it for those 2 things anyway so it's perfect for me.
Oh!! I thought it was for all calling, not just local, and data. Still, if you font need the other stuff, it's a great plan!

Donald my hero, I apologise for mixing up your gender. When I first typed it, I had you as a her. Before I sent it, I checked once more, noticed the name Donald, and changed you to a he.

I have that same Breeze phone and I've only ever thought of using it in the States. I'm going to have to put your thoughts above in my back pocket for the time when my current cell phone gives up the ghost. I only use my Canadian phone to text with the boys so the Breeze would work well for that.

Another vote for Telus. I switched from Koodo when hubby decided we should get a shared data plan to save $. No complaints and I have had wonderful customer service. Our son & family just moved over from Rogers and are very happy.

Thoughts....
  • talk to your co-workers and neighbors. Find out what they have and whether they have deadzones or areas of poor coverage around the city/town. You'll find some carriers will offer better coverage than others.
  • Yep Wind is cheap.... sadly coverage is spotty. I'm willing to pay more for reliable service.
  • Virgin and Chatter operate on the Telus/Rogers network. Look at what they have to offer.
For myself.... I am willing to pay more for Telus. I refuse to give any money to companies that offer poor service.
  • Telus offers the best coverage where I am at work and home. Who wants to pay roaming charges for driving a few hours from downtown.... while you are still in Canada. I even got Telus coverage along parts of the coast on my Alaskan cruise!
  • Telus offers signal repeaters in office building and subway tunnels so all my calls get through and my data is available when I want it. The signal repeaters means my phone battery lasts longer and the phone is not running hot to get a signal.
  • Telus offers discounts with landline, internet, and TV services. Love the wireless cable boxes! They are just starting to roll out their 4K service for TV's.
  • Telus offers FREE data if you are near one of their TelusDirect wifi hotspots. The phone shuts off cellular data and uses the wifi for savings.
  • Telus consistently scores the best for lowest customer complaints. For some reason Bell, Rogers, and Fido enjoy operating with poor customer service ratings. If you look at this chart. 36% complaints from Bell, 18.2% complaints for Rogers. Telus is 4.7%.
