Hi, all. Went to Ample Hills on this past Sunday night with a bunch of the DIS'ers for the 10th Anniversary celebration.

While the ice cream was good, honestly, it was just too sweet. :crazy2: I had the Ooey Gooey Vanilla Butter something or other (can't remember the name). I couldn't finish it...it was just sweet for the sake of being sweet. Everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into it! Too much.

And someone got the Pnut Butter ice cream and it also had too many ingredients in it.::yes::

I also got the chocolate chip cookie cone (not too good). For the first time in my life I did not finish my ice cream OR my cone!! And I ADORE ICE CREAM. I could eat it with every meal...and all by itself...all day long.

I guess I don't like my ice cream being messed with too much.

Next time, I'm just getting the plain flavors and not being so adventurous (although that's difficult there) and calling it a day. I much preferred my cookies and cream ice cream cone from Port Orleans Riverside food court. Yes. :mickeybar

thank you for the review. I've been afraid to go for just those reasons. I, too, love ice cream have some every single night (sugar free but heck it's ice cream) but was worried that it was too trendy and had too many frufru flavors and no good old plain old fashioned ice cream. I'm a chocolate chip mint fan and that's about as far out there as I get. I always go to the ice cream shop in the France pavilion when I'm there or the soda shop at the Dolphin, guess I'll stick to those.

We ate there last week and disliked it, too. My cookies & cream ice cream was mostly saccharine-tasting wet cookie with very little ice cream in between. Didn't finish it. And it was more expensive than other WDW ice cream, even though it wasn't good.

Next time we'll stick with the Beaches & Cream walk-up window for ice cream.

I'm going to be writing to Guest Services about some very good cast members. Maybe I'll mention the Ample Hills Creamery. All they have to do is back off of some of the added ingredients in the ice cream, and that will solve most of the ills.

Not sure it will be that easy. Ample Hills Creamery is an independent ice cream producer/shop based in NY. I'm sure they would be resistant to changing their recipes, especially now that they have such a huge captive audience! I have heard similar reviews of their ice cream (too sweet, too many add-ins, etc.) from people who have gone to their shops in NY. I haven't tried it - I tend to shy away from these forced, overly-precious types of places. Personally, I'd much rather get ice cream from L'Artisan des Glaces.

I've heard similar reviews and it makes me scared to try it, I also think with all the ingredients it'd be hard to find something that was safe for someone with allergies. Maybe someone else in my group will try it, but honestly most of my family members aren't big on the super sweet snacks so I'm thinking it might just be a complete skip for my family.

I love ice cream though, so I'll find another place to have a treat, I did enjoy Beaches & Cream last year for ice cream sundaes and shakes!

We had the complete opposite last month. We went back 3 times because of how good and fairly priced it was!

I am obsessed with the Sally Sells Seashells and the Limoncello. My son loved the oreo and limoncello. And between the 4 of us, I am pretty sure we tried all the flavors. It was SO good.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it!

I'm sure my husband will love it then. He has more than one sweet tooth!

This is the only place on site where he can get ice cream made from the milk of properly treated, grass fed cows and organic sugar, so I hope they listen to their customer base on the sweetness level and stay around.

There's a thread on here asking about Ample Hills with multiple positive reviews, and DH and I are planning to try it next month. We do love the ice cream at L'Artisan Des Glaces so I hope we're not disappointed! I don't mind really really sweet stuff, including ice cream, and I don't mind a couple things mixed in but I don't like when I constantly get more of the mix-ins than ice cream in every bite. Still think I have to try it for myself, though :)

We stopped there on Friday (start of the mega meet) and I got a dark chocolate with salted caramel sauce. Delightful!!!!

My wife had a sample of the lemon something. Talk about pucker power.

If you like mint chocolate chip, you might enjoy Ample Hill's peppermint patty ice cream. I still dream about it...

Since you can sample before buying, there is really no risk in trying it out . It is a nice mom and pop shop; one of the few that has had success in staying open in NY. I am glad there is something offered at Disney that is a better quality than Edy's...no hormones in the milk! Also, it kinda makes sense for a Brooklyn company to actually be represented at "the Boardwalk." Sorry the OP didn't like her ice cream. (I would actually expect an "ooey gooey"ice cream flavor to be quite sweet, but maybe that's just me.)

This is actually on my "new things to try" list for my trip. I love ice cream so I'm pretty excited about it, despite the mixed reviews I've seen. And surprisingly in over 15 trips, I've never checked out the boardwalk area. Could be because I've lived at the Jersey Shore my whole life, but yay for new things.
