2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

**EDIT: It is very possible that this is only exciting to me. :)

So...not sure how many of you read last year's thread (lots of good info there, by the way), but when the Dooneys came out for the race we got to talking about Harveys bags as a Dooney alternative. Harveys is a company out of California and they make bags/wallets out of seatbelts...they have a working relationship with Disney and make Disney-inspired designs.

Lately they have been releasing bags that coincide with the Disney live-action releases (Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland - apparently 101 Dalmations is next), so I have reeeeeally been hoping that something is in the works for Beauty & the Beast. I saw this screenshot posted in one of the purse Facebook groups I'm in last night...it's from Harveys' Snapchat account. Looks like Beauty and the Beast is coming!! Eeeek!!! Would be so awesome if this came out before Princess weekend since there's a good chance Belle is the theme!!!

I'm excited for you. The spots are what may get me to dark side lol. I already have a few D+B purses.

With the announcement of the 5K races now going to "real medals" - how do you think the 5K will be represented as a medal now, especially with Belle?

You mean I'll finally get "real" bling for working my butt off?

Yep. Just announced today.

I love the plastic medals because they could get more color and make it an art piece, but they really appeared cheap for running 3 miles. (It's a workout for sure!)

I really really want the 5K medal to be the rose in the glass enclosure. Imagine how gorgeous that'd look as a medal. :D

Thank you!! :teeth:

I've been switching my collection from Dooney to Harveys, so I'm pretty excited about this!

Wow! I hadn't seen that...I'm shocked! Anyone else think they'll use this as an excuse to increase 5K registration fees???

No guesses on the 5K medal...hmmm...:scratchin I have to say, I always liked the rubber medallions. They were always so cute.

That would be cute. I just have a bit of hard time ( yes I pay it willingly) paying 75-80 for a rubber medal when I do same distance here at home and pay 35-40

OMG. That is definitely the enchanted mirror. I don't know if my wallet can handle both a D&B and a Harvey's BATB - but I'd need them both!!!

Joining in the fun here.. I'm registered for the half. Haven't done a runDisney event since Princess Half in 2013. Can't wait! My son is starting college in Orlando this fall, so I'm justifying the trip (from Maine) as an excuse to pay him a visit.

So excited to be joining in with this great group! I can say that I have successfully read all 56 pages, after I had already registered! As an active DISer I didn't think to look for this thread until after committing to the race. It will be myself :figment:, my sister :stitch:and my best friend :ccat:(who is a second sister to us) on this trip and new venture and for the first time participating in the Princess 5k princess:. My sister has run races before and is the active runner - - she'll probably be in an earlier corral than us 2. My bff and I have each done local 5ks but nothing spectacular. We are training together, and working on getting our time down. This morning I was at about a 14 minute mile. Plenty of time to get it even lower.

:welcome:

Not sure, but it will be beautiful! I have had very few complaints about the look of Disney medals.

If I have to be honest, I started running because I really wanted a race Dooney. I was a Disney purse addict before I was a running addict. I have been saving my pennies to get the BatB Dooneys that are coming out next month already. I am over the moon about a Harvey's. I'm going to need another job!

Whatever gets you moving, right?

EEEEEEK :yay:

Can someone remind me if we get to see the D&B bags before the pre-order or if it's a blind order like the jackets? Also, I'm assuming you AWESOME ladies will let us know when the preorder link comes up in a few months?

What would you think of the princess 5k as someone's first 5k? I mean, I'd hope to complete one or two before then, just to make sure I can (I'm sure I can!) but I would definitely be a beginner!

I did it as my first 5K in 2015. It was a lot of fun, and knowing that it wasn't a super-intense race and I had the opportunity to stop for characters or pictures if I needed a break made it a lot easier for me. I'd say it's definitely a great 5K for beginners.

It was my first 5k - at least it was when I signed up. I ended up doing a local one just before it. But I think its a perfect first runDisney event. It should be noted, its so crowded its very hard to run. There were TONS of walkers. I do run/walk intervals and had my timer going and often it was too crowded during my run time so we adjusted to walking when we didn't see an opening, and then running if we saw a way to get around people.

My DIL is registered for the 5k, 10k and half. This will be her first runDisney experience. I have knee issues so I'll just be her support team -- no husbands or grandkids, just an adult girls trip. ADRs are opening in a couple of weeks.

Do you think she'll want to nap or eat after each of the races?

What would be reasonable times for ADRs after each of the races?

Any suggestions for good places to eat the night before or the mornings after? I've heard about carb loading. Is this a good idea for all these races?

Does the race pick-up/drop-off bus go to all the usual park bus stops or to the front of the resort like ME?

I'm thinking about treating her to a spa visit on one of the race days. Good idea? Which day would be best? Any thoughts on which spa?

Thanks!

I have booked adrs around 9-9:30 after 5k,
10k I'd do later like 10-11
Half No idea but I plan to take easy than go out for celebration dinner.
I ate at Tony's this past year night prior to 10k, Any place she can get pasta dish is best and not a place with weird foods such as Boma or Sanna IMO. I've also done Hollywood and Vine in past. Make early so she can get to bed/chill time at resort.

I never napped after races but plan to after half. Spa day might be nice after half or before races start.

Buses picked up more in ME zone At poFQ, POP it was at end of bus stop line.

Hope this helps some.

@Fire14 did a great job answering questions, but I thought I'd jump in too.

For nap/eat - yes. Runners love sleep and food - she'll probably be pumped after the 5K and not need a nap, but the 10K is a bit more draining, and the half is exhausting. So if you want to do an ADR for breakfast, shoot for the 5K. I'd be apprehensive for the others only because of buses and times to get around. But an early lunch and dinner? totally fine!

Places to eat - definitely places that serve pasta or pizza. Simple meals that won't sit heavy. You'll probably not want to eat after 6pm so that it has time to settle and make sure to stay hydrated! If you can, Amazon Pantry a palette of water to your hotel so she can chug water and be properly hydrated. That is what we're doing. :)

For spa visit - do it after the 10K or the half marathon. Soaking in a hot tub after the 10K will feel amazing. Muscles may be a little sore after running, especially in the legs. :) It'd be fun to do after the half as a congrats and she can get her toes done too!
