Sanuk Sandals?

hi there!

Heading out to my 4th world visit September 10th, wahoo!! This time I'm leaving the husband and kiddos and home. I am taking my younger sister (27! Haha!) on her first trip to the world! SO excited!

I cannot wear any type of tennis shoe, my feet get extremely sore and swollen. As crazy as it sounds - I do better putting many miles in on flip flops while on vacation. I would, however, like to find a more supportive (and fashion friendly) type sandal. A friend of mine has Sanuk Sandals and raves about them. She has the sling ones. Has anyone worn them on a Dis vacation? Thoughts? :)

My fiance wears a sandal from them. It is more like an athletic flip fop though not their sling back sandal. He finds them comfortable.

I wore them every day (rotated several pairs) for a 10 day Disney trip. Loved them! I didn't get them until 2 days before the trip, so I didn't have any time to "break them in." Didn't matter.... They were perfect!

Eta: I wore the Sanuk Yoga Slings. They have a yoga mat/memory foam type sole.

I've got a pair of the Yoga ones and they're comfy. I've also got 2 pairs of Birkenstock Gizeh flip flops. Before I got these, if anyone had said they could comfortably spend all day walking a Disney park in flip flops I would have thought they were nuts. But these are SO comfortable, I hardly know I'm wearing anything.

Just don't forget to put lots of sunscreen on the top if your feet and toes. From painful experience.

I've been obsessing over footwear threads on these boards and can at least confirm that the Sanuk Yoga Slings are frequently recommended! I'm planning to buy a pair next paycheck for my trip in October and assuming I like them, I'll use them and my Keens on the trip. :)

My wife went with her Rainbows and about 4 hours into walking she was complaining about how bad her feet and legs were hurting so we went to Disney Springs in an attempt to find her something more comfortable.

We ran across the Sanuk store and she ended up buying a pair of the yoga mat sling sandals (or what ever they're called).

She loved them, wore them the rest of the 6 days we were there, and talked about how wonderful they felt.

Sanuks aren't what I would call "supportive". Something with a contoured footbed would be far more helpful, IMO. Sanuks are completely flat, like $1 old navy flip flops, it's just the fabric and backstrap that's way more comfortable instead of plastic straps. For supportive sandals, look at Vionic or even fitflops.

I have several pairs of sidewalk surfers and the yoga slings. I have worn them extensively for long periods of walking and find them to be extremely comfortable. And you can throw them in the washing machine when they get dirty. So I don't worry about them getting wet in the parks if it rains. I used to be solely an open-toes sandals person, but recently I have noted that the closed sidewalk surfers are much cooler when it's sunny, as then I don't have the hot sun pounding down on my little toes (sunscreen keeps the skin from burning, but obviously doesn't keep feet cool). The sole is much, much more supportive than what you would get in a cheap Old Navy type flip flop.

If you have The Walking Company store in your area, I highly recommend the ABEO B.I.O sandals line. I don't like wearing sneakers, so I went into the store, got a free walking assessment done, and ended up with a pair that provides extra support to my arches (there are different sole types and they will let you know which one you need). Wore them to MK in March from 9am to 9pm and had absolutely no problems/pain/discomfort.

LOVE my yoga slings. They are all I wore on our last trip (rotated between 2 pairs) walking on average 10 miles/day. I have knee and hip problems and usually anything more that a mile gives me a ton of joint pain. 7 park days wearing them and I had zero pain. They are what I'll be wearing when we go back in a few weeks. I also have a pair of the slinger (flip flops) that I'll wear for the flights because they take no time to slip on and off at the airport but the bed is a firmer yoga mat material so not as comfy for me for park walking.

I have about 8 pairs of the Sanuk flip flops and love them all...go with the yoga mat footbed! They are no way like cheap flip flops as a pp said. I wore them throughout Disney and other walking trips without a problem. If you can't find in local stores, Amazon carries.

I'm obsessed with my yoga slings BUT they're not very supportive--I can foresee myself twisting my ankle on a misstep or something very easily if I wore them for several days at Disney. But for just a few hours? They're perfect and so so so comfy!

I wear the Sanuk yoga mat flip flops and never even take my tennis shoes to Disney anymore.

I have 2 pairs of the sling sandals and was wondering if anyone else has a problem with them when they get wet? I feel like mine get super slick:confused3 does anyone else experience this or now a way to fix it?

I don't have Sanuks, but I have Zealand flip flops from The Walking Company. They're really similar. I have flat feet, and they were wider, so they won! I don't know that I would wear them all day at a park (maybe you would, though), but I do wear them all the time when out and about running errands or taking my dog on a walk to the neighborhood park and back. They are so comfy that they are the only flip flops I wear now.

Following along in this thread. I've never heard of this store but googled it and it's a little less than an hour away. I've had MAJOR foot issues the past year and will be heading to WDW in the fall. Thank you for posting this info. I am definitely checking this store out!

I wore my Sanuk yoga slings (slightly different looking than the current model) on my trip last year for 7 days straight and had absolutely no issues whatsoever. I was most concerned about blisters, but the fabric straps make that a non-issue. The yoga mat is so comfortable to walk on. I was going to switch to sneakers every other day, but didn't want to risk getting blisters! Those are now my go to when I know I'll be on my feet for a long time. They'll be coming with me for our trip in September and won't be coming off! Lol

The Walking Company is god's gift to feet. Roadrunner Sports is also good if you're looking specifically for sneakers.

I love my Sanuk yoga mat flip flops. I wear them everywhere. They are so comfortable and enough support for me. I have some foot issues due to standing all the time while at work so I'm very picky about my shoes. They are great for me and the price isn't too outrageous.
