Hard Rock Hotel or Royal Pacific Resort?

Hello lovely experts!

My boyfriend and I are heading to Florida next October for three weeks. Well the first week is in New Orleans and then we're flying back to Orlando to spend three nights at Universal and 10 nights at Disney, staying YC.

We're trying to decide where to stay when we're at Universal. We plan to go hard or go home in New Orleans so want a hotel we can relax in, lounge by the pool with some cocktails, that sort of thing. So, my question to you is what are your thoughts on HRH vs RPR? We've watched videos on YouTube of both and just can't decide. Any thoughts you have will be gratefully received!

Thank you!

they're probably both nice..
we've never stayed at the hard rock, only at royal pacific and portofino...
we liked the royal pacific better than portofino, but i've heard good things about the hard rock...
have you tried looking at the reviews here on the disboards or on trip advisor?

Hi
Having stayed at both i would say i prefer the RPR. The new refurbished rooms look great , we missed them last year but they do look good in pics i've seen. We don't eat at either hotel so i can't compare the eating options but the pool in RPR i prefered. It's bigger and i found it a lot quieter though it lacks the underwater speaker novalty the HR has :)

Both are a similar walk from parks and both have boats and both have Express Pass so equal there. The RPR will be a little cheaper as well and i just prefer the Tropical setting to Hard Rocks more clinical look (at least to me).

Saying all that if your budget could stretch a little more the Portofino Bay is hands down the best hotel i've ever stayed in , going again this year myself. It's a longer walk from the parks but again has a boat and shuttle but pools , and general ambiance (sp) is so much nicer here :) , it's a great place to relax after a day at the parks.

Hard rock is more for the younger crowd .royal pacific should be a little cheaper ,can't go wrong with either

I've stayed at both and they're great. I do prefer RPR especially the refurbished rooms. The HRH is fabulous but I really like the vibe of RPR, it's more relaxing, the pool is excellent and the staff are so friendly. We don't tend to spend a great deal of time in the resort at Universal but when we do, RPR ticks all the boxes. Only downside is the lack of a quick service restaurant but City Walk is only a short walk away.

I've only stayed at HRH and would note their rooms are also refurbished. Great hotel but the pool is very shallow so if that's your focus that would put me off. Club Level was good. It is easily the closest hotel to the parks a 5 minute slow walk. Can't imagine why you'd catch a boat from there????

I stayed at Royal Pacific with two teenagers and we all loved it. It was clean, a short boat rise from the parks and the staff were really friendly

We've stayed at Hard Rock twice now and don't have any complaints and would stay there again. The theme doesn't really appeal (we are both in our 40s and travel without the kids now!) but there is nothing wrong with it. We are trying to decide whether to stay somewhere else next year, but what keeps on swinging it for us is the fact the Hard Rock is the shortest walk to the parks (although the boat is a nice ride if you so choose).

I don't think you can really go wrong out of the three, so whichever you choose - enjoy!

Thanks so much for all of your replies!! I think we need to go back and have another look but based on this, RPR is looking likely. I imagine we'll need a calming environment after New Orleans!

I have stayed at both. I liked both although the pool was more of a bar area at HRH saying that it was July 4th so may have been worse than usual. I have some more detail in my trip report on P3.

We stayed at HRH last time which was nice but this time we've trying RPR. It looks good and for the same price as a standard room at HRH we've managed to book concierge level at RPR :jumping1:

I stayed at HRH in November 2014 planning to stay at RPR next october for 3 nights. It looks so nice and can't wait .

Didn't spend to much time in HRH as we were always at the parks but the hotel and rooms were very nice

We have done HRH and PFB. Loved HRH so that would get my vote of the two you're looking at, but PFB is just beautiful.

HRH is very close to the parks which was a great plus for us.

We've stayed at both and like both, we now book RPR as it's a bit cheaper and we feel that we like them about the same so go for the slightly cheaper option :0)
