News Round Up 2016

I'm not really sure I see the point in either of those packages. They are both more expensive than the one week plan.
These are additions to the $69 package. In the $99 plan you get a couple extra things, in the $119 package you get those couple extra things plus a physical disc.

Lucky the Dinosaur was only out in AK a few months in the summer of 2005. He then went over to HK for the opening. He's currently housed at Imagineering in Glendale. We were lucky (sorry about the pun) to get to "meet" him. When I asked the Imagineer why he wasn't out in the parks - he said that Lucky's "skin" couldn't stand up to the harsh conditions in Florida. It's too bad because the technology is truly amazing and I have to assume the real reason we don't see free roaming animatronics like that is someone deemed them too expensive to maintain - though it's also possible that the unpredictability of guest behavior makes them impractical as well. I really an hoping that we might see some free roaming AAs in either Pandora (unlikely) or in Star Wars Land (more likely).

I got to meet Lucky too and was actually chosen as the one to meet him first and get the autograph...talk about a life highlight :)

Well thats almost an urban legend now. Its been said Disney spent a ton of money on it but is maybe afraid to use it and with drone laws now it might be hard to use it.

There was talk of it being used in pandora at the time-- so they did have a time cross over. Also, The dragon is not a drone-- it is an ultra light piloted by a human. The execs when asked said he may re appear whenever there is a big event at the parks-- I'm planning to be in AK whenever the grand opening is for pandora in hopes they will fly a couple. Awesome.

Possibly the all-time greatest value in the history of WDW (it is in my mind). I can't imagine ever having an experience at WDW that tops the E-ride nights we did in 1997 & 2000. It's what made the recent after-hours events seem so bad to me. If I had never experienced the original E-ride nights - at that price - maybe the price tag of the recent ones wouldn't have seemed as outrageous. But the idea of paying $150 for essentially the same thing I paid $12 for is a tough hurdle to get over.

Plus the crowds were pretty slim as I recall. Sorry for the late reply I'm a bit behind. You know, work and all...

I mean, I really think it is great they've been doing so much conservation activities lately, but why didn't they do this back when the documentary was first released? Talk about bad public relations.
Um they have been since seaworld became a thing. Seaworld has always done animal rescues and animal care but unfortunately the positive press doesn't sell like the negative press.

Seaworld has been working animal rescues for like 50 years......

No, absolutely. I meant why was their PR response so weak back when the whole Blackfish thing happened? The conservation efforts they've been doing lately have been getting a lot more press than what they did prior to the backlash, but it is too late to improve things for them. They waited too long to let people know that they've always done conservation activities.

Uh oh... somebody let the media sway their view. :D

They ABSOLUTELY highlighted and stepped up their publication of all their conservation efforts. They had flyers and media videos and talking points and press releases.

And the media covered it as "Seaworld is attempting to take the light off the negative publicity from Blackfish by highlighting their conservation efforts, but PETA has responded by saying a little good will does not outweigh the horrific treatment of hundreds of animals for years. Here's a small clip from Blackfish showing a suffering killer whale."

They tried over and over again, and were shouted over. No one's hands are clean, but the MSM absolutely did not give equal time to Seaworld's positive conservation efforts, despite the attempt by Seaworld to publicize them.

It's clear the media took a very negative approach towards SeaWorld after the documentary. I personally didn't perceive their initial response to be enough to diminish the impact of the documentary, and if you ask some people in the industry, they will also tell you that SeaWorld's PR was reactive and slow. I ignore if they truly tried though. Perhaps as you say, I'm biased by everything the media said and I just wasn't able to recognize their efforts to solve the issue.

Negativity always gets more press than positive stories...look at how many times Disney has had protester stories, or lawsuits in the news, but how many stories about their ongoing conservation efforts do we see...not many...yet they are involved in huge and successful efforts all over the globe.
