Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

::yes:: However, I find that when I see/do
something really cool, I wish someone
was there to share it with.

That's what we're here for, right?

Uh, oh. Are we going to see a picture of your car
on the news?
"Driver follows GPS instructions and winds up in river."

YIKES! I hope not! Maybe a story about a certain GPS ending up in a river.

"Stamina Doesn't Matter"

Cute story about the goat.
Reminds me of Luna shortly after she broke her leg.
Even though she only had three legs to use,
she was more than raring and happy to go!

Oh, yeah, I have sheep stories too. We have a sheep named Betty (what is it with the same name game here?) who only has 3 legs.

She can run fast, too. She once got loose while we had an offsite pet meet & greet at a local park and she crashed a wedding.

"EWWW!!! Is that a... Sheep?"- bride

Might have to use a smaller font.
 Ya' Think?
Maybe just a little bit smaller and then have it wrap 'round-n-'round the shirt front to back in a descending spiral.

Another good one might say something like:

Original Member of the Loyal Order of the
Knights who until recently said: Ni!

Now you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest ...

with a herring.
We shall do no such thing!

Cut down a tree with a herring?
It can’t be done!

I'm here. Kinda.

Been out having frivolous road trips and such. You know....

pretty much livin' the dream.

Be back soon....

That's what we're here for, right?

You have no idea what you just did.
I read that and sat there dumbstruck.
(Or more dumbstruck than usual.)

Yes. Yes, you're absolutely right.
You have no idea how big a smile that put on my face.

YIKES! I hope not! Maybe a story about a certain GPS ending up in a river.

:lmao:

"Stamina Doesn't Matter"

Said no woman... ever.

Oh, yeah, I have sheep stories too.

Of course you do!

We have a sheep named Betty (what is it with the same name game here?)

This is getting a little creepy here....

who only has 3 legs.

She can run fast, too. She once got loose while we had an offsite pet meet & greet at a local park and she crashed a wedding.

:rotfl: "Hear the one about the three legged sheep that crashed a wedding?"

"EWWW!!! Is that a... Sheep?"- bride

She was right the first time. It was an Ewe.

 Ya' Think?
Maybe just a little bit smaller and then have it wrap 'round-n-'round the shirt front to back in a descending spiral.

That would work.
Of course then you'd have hordes of people
walking around and around you,
trying to read it all.

Minor inconvenience.

::yes::

We shall do no such thing!

Cut down a tree with a herring?
It can’t be done!

Aaagh! Don't say that word!

Okay kiddies.
It's getting on toward two a.m. and I think I'm done.
I've got a big chunk of the next update written
and all the photos are uploaded to P-bucket.
Won't be much longer.

You have no idea what you just did.
I read that and sat there dumbstruck.

Yes. Yes, you're absolutely right.

Thank you! Your response made me smile. Glad I (we) could help.

:grouphug:

Said no woman... ever.

:rotfl:

She was right the first time. It was an Ewe.

Can't pull the wool over your eyes!

:faint:

Hey! You're back!

Yep! I'm just recently back from 2 weeks at WDW. I've just started my trip report (just escaped the airport in fact) - you are all welcome to join. Terra Nova guy has already joined us.

She may recover, but as for our finances?
It works like this.
"Oh, look. We got a little extra."

SPEND IT!!!!!!

Absolutely! Otherwise other things will just take it - in my case it is my car! Just got another bill - £350 for new fan motor. I did need to get it fixed. I was having to drive round with my windows open. I commented, not so favourably on another driver's driving skills and heard Peter exclaim "Mum your window's down!" After the second incident on the same journey where a car cut the corner and I questioned aloud the side of the road he was driving on I booked the car into the garage.

Funny. That's what I thought when the kids suggested that name.

Luna to me will always be from Bear in the Big Blue House. That was Hannah's favourite show when she was pre-school. In fact it was Hannah's first concert.

Be right over!

Absolutely! Otherwise other things will just take it - in my case it is my car! Just got another bill - £350 for new fan motor.

Ouch. One thing I heard a looooong time ago
(well before I was old enough to drive)
"A car is a black hole you pour money into."

Oh..... so right.

I did need to get it fixed. I was having to drive round with my windows open.

Which isn't great when it rains...

Ah yes. I remember when my kiddos watched that.
I think one or both mentioned that too,
when I'd bring up Harry Potter.

That was Hannah's favourite show when she was pre-school. In fact it was Hannah's first concert.

Awww... I think Elle's first was
Loonette the Clown from Big Comfy Couch.
(A Canadian show.)

Old School

There's good news...
and there's bad news.
First... the good news.

I've got a plethora of pictures for you.
And all (or almost all) are touristy types.
So many, in fact, that I'll have to split
this update into two parts.
So many, in fact,
that I hardly have to write anything.

I know! You're happy now, aren't you!
Yay! Pictures! And touristy ones, too!
Yippee!!!!

And no stupid words getting in the way!!!!

Not so fast.

I don't have to write much....
but....

Well, you know me.
Sorry.
Plus... I didn't take any notes, remember?
But I'm still going to yak on and on.

And on that buzz killer note,
shall we begin?

It was our last day in Montreal.
As per usual, Ruby was up and ready
before I even woke up.

You know, I think that's the best part
of my accompanying her on these things.
She has to get up early, dress for work
and then, well.... work.
I on the other hand,
can sleep all day, if I chose
(or if I could,)
wear whatever the heck I want
(but never, never, ever... sandals and socks)
and... not work.

I really don't gloat in front of her.
I don't rub it in.
Really I don't.

Oh, wait.
Yes I do.

And it's so much fun!!

"Off to work are you?
I think I'll throw on a pair of shorts
and stroll around for while...
In an hour or three...
Have a good day!!"

Ruby's great.
Very understanding.
Very tolerant.
She has yet to hit me upside the head
when I do this.

Oh, I deserve it, of course.
But sooooo worth it.

Now having said all of the above,
I actually got a move on fairly quickly
this morning.
I had put Google to work the previous night
and found what looked like a good place
to go to for breakfast.
And I was dying for some eggs Benedict.

Salivating a tad, too.

The plan for the day was to enjoy a leisurely breakfast,
and then wander around "old Montreal".
I'd been there before, but... well....
I had to have something for you guys, didn't I?

I'm not kidding.
I did it for you.
It wasn't a sacrifice, mind you.
I had nothing else in mind, so...
Might as well keep you all from fleeing.

Those of you who are left, I mean.

Okay. Let's get some breakfast.
I had found this place on tripadvisor,
and it had some decent reviews.
Works for me.

Now this is a screen cap that I saved,
so I'd know where to find it.

See the name?

IMG_1417_zpsivwrr4t3.png

The Mon Cafe

How do you guys pronounce that?
I know how I pronounced it.

"The" and then "Mon" like in "Jamaica, Mon!"
and then "Café" like 'kaff-ay'.

More on that in a bit.

I set out from the hotel with
what was supposed to be
a ten or fifteen minute walk
in front of me.

I walked along, noting all the signs
that were in French,
the snippets of conversation I'd hear
that were in French,
and people either walking, biking
or smoking.

It just felt.... foreign.
And I loved it.
(well... maybe not the smoking.)

And then it happened.
I was walking along a mostly deserted stretch
and came to a stop at an intersection.
There were maybe three or four other people there.
There wasn't much traffic at all,
but the light was red, so I/we waited.
Out of the corner of my eye,
I noticed a bus approaching the intersection.
It would pass directly in front of us.
I looked up at the traffic lights
just as they turned yellow.
The bus, still a little ways off, accelerated.
Obviously he was going to try and catch the light.
Just as his light turned red,
our walk light changed from the red hand
to the white pedestrian symbol.
I didn't move, since the bus was almost upon us
and obviously couldn't stop even if he wanted to.

But a woman with a baby carriage hadn't noticed.
She began to move forward
and before I could grab her, she'd moved the carriage
into the roadway, directly into the path of the bus!

The bus hit the carriage and sent it flying through the air!
I heard someone screaming.
It was a young lady who'd witnessed the same thing.
"Oh my God, oh my God." She wailed.
I grabbed her and shouted at her...
"It's cans. It's Ok, it's cans."
"What? " She said.
"They were just cans." I repeated.

Wait.
Hang on....

Oh.
That's from the movie Speed.
With Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
Good movie.

This is what happens when I don't take notes.
Some of the details get mixed up a bit.
Now that I think about it...
nothing eventful happened at all.

Downtown Montreal is a mixture of old and new.
There are brand spanking new high-rises.
And there are buildings dating back
to the seventeenth century.

When you walk towards Old Montreal,
you're mostly surrounded by very modern buildings.
But, turn down that one street,
(watching for speeding buses, of course)
and suddenly you're in another world.

IMG_1420_zps5bkks1yg.jpg

IMG_1421_zpsaxh5vuin.jpg

IMG_1422_zpsvdgoxndw.jpg

I was busy strolling and snapping the occasional pic
while also trying to find street addresses
so I could find the The Mon Cafe.

I found an address.... and somehow I'd missed it.
I turned around...
and looked up.

IMG_1423_zpsy2oalxvu.jpg

And sort of chuckled.
I'd walked right under that sign.
I was so busy looking left, right and across the street,
that I'd failed to see it.

And then I stared.... and shook my head.

It's not The Mon Cafe.

It's Thé Mon café.
That translates to "Tea, my café"
or better still, "My tea café"

I sure hope you guys can see all the accents
in what I just wrote.
If not, just look at the sign and trust me on this.

And why shouldn't you trust me?
Have I ever lied to you?

Cans! It's just cans!

And then came my first disappointment of the day.
Luckily, one of only a few.

They didn't serve eggs Benedict.
But... but... but... I was craving that!

poop.

So instead, I asked about their daily special.
It was eggs on a croissant with ham.
Well, it wasn't what I wanted, but...
I'm here, so...
I ordered that along with an orange juice.
(pkondz does not do coffee... or tea.)

I was told to grab a seat
and they would bring it to me when ready.

IMG_1424_zpsny2kevg8.jpg

Nice little place, no?

Considering there was only myself
and one other gentleman,
who was already eating,
it took a little longer than eggspected.
But once I got it...

It was really good!

IMG_1425_zpslpk75bob.jpg

I didn't know the eggs were hard boiled.
I thought they were going to scramble them
or possibly make an omelet.
But I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The croissant was really fresh.
No eggs Benedict... but I approved.
I left the café in high spirits.

My first "stop" was possibly Montreal's
most famous tourist attraction.
The Notre Dame Basilica.
But... before you get too excited
(if you even are)
I did not venture inside.
I've been inside before,
and now, there's an entrance fee.

I'm sorry, but that just rankles.
You have to pay to go into a church?
That just smacks of money gouging to me.
What if you just want to go in and pray?

Sorry, the DIS doesn't allow politics or religion
so I'll just stop there.

But suffice to say, there seemed to be
less praying and more preying.

Still, there's no charge to walk by it.
I'm sure this will change as soon
as they can figure out a way to do it.

(Hello! We registered that your eyes
have looked at our church.
Your account has been deducted.
Have a nice day!)

Leaving the café, I crossed the road
to capture this first glimpse of Notre Dame.

IMG_1426_zps3mlnq2in.jpg

And snapped this side street.
You know why?

Me neither.
But I uploaded it,
so you're darned well going to look at it!

IMG_1427_zpsmsmdcfdc.jpg

This old neon sign caught my eye.
For two reasons.
One... old neon, so... cool
(And no, it's not burned out in sections.
Various parts would light up at different times.)
Two... It's bilingual.
Photo Service works in both French and English.

IMG_1428_zpsz2v7jc3k.jpg

This ornate gate caught my eye.
I just like it.

IMG_1429_zpspfldjrpo.jpg

Finally arriving at Notre Dame.
And as befits a major tourist attraction,
you have the overly expensive horse drawn wagons.

IMG_1430_zpswvizx2pf.jpg

Beside the basilica is the residence of
Les Prêtres de Saint-Sulpice,
or Priests of Saint Sulpice.
From what I gather,
it's a place of education for priests.

IMG_1432_zpsulsi5czq.jpg

Another view of the Basilica.

IMG_1436_zpsslghxq4g.jpg

Across from the Basilica is Place D'Armes
or Place of Arms (as in armed forces)
Originally it was called something else
(Place de la Fabrique)
but was renamed in 1721.
It's the second oldest public space in Montreal. (1693)

IMG_1434_zpscknyfbq7.jpg

At the center of the square is a statue of
Paul Chomedy de Maisonneuve,
the founder of Montreal.

IMG_1435_zpsetijkajn.jpg

I loitered in the area for a few minutes
then continued on my exploration of Old Montreal.
I continued in the same direction I'd been traveling,
North on Rue Notre-Dame.

IMG_1439_zpsvyclck4m.jpg

There were plenty of touristy type
crappy shops along this stretch.
But some of the shop windows
caught my eye.
It hurt quite a bit.

These are from a Christmas store.

IMG_1437_zpsv4h8aw0s.jpg

IMG_1438_zpsytobfiby.jpg

While this next one... isn't.

IMG_1440_zpsrkoksoaj.jpg

At the end of that block,
I was intrigued by the juxtaposition
of the old and new buildings.
Plus I get to use the word "juxtaposition"
which is not a word you normally use
on a regular basis.
So... win/win.

IMG_1441_zpscc10z2f1.jpg

Continuing North on Rue Notre-Dame...

IMG_1443_zpspt095idh.jpg

This imposing edifice is a courthouse.
They all seem to look like that, don't they?
I wonder if the columns are supposed to
represent bars in a jail cell...
It's as good an explanation as any other.

IMG_1444_zps8d4nib0l.jpg

Just a little past the courthouse,
was Place Jacques-Cartier.
A large square lined with restaurants.
I spent a bit of time just wandering around.

IMG_1445_zpspwwonehh.jpg

IMG_1449_zpswds7bq34.jpg

In the middle of the square were other shops,
like this one selling art.

IMG_1446_zps4cjf4kms.jpg

Or this smoothie bar.

IMG_1447_zps2khbvf0o.jpg

IMG_1448_zpskzokzgxi.jpg

At the end of the square, you could go left or right.
To the left....

IMG_1451_zpsygdd4qnt.jpg

See the woman walking to the right of the cement truck?
She was driving a scooter and went up a ramp
that I guess she thought was placed there for through traffic.
She went airborne and landed right in some fresh cement.

Wait... no. That was Spy, with Melissa McCarthy.
Man... I really need to take notes.

In any event,
it didn't look overly inviting,
so I went right.

To the right looked a bit more inviting.
I think I chose the right way.
Right?

Right.

IMG_1454_zpsx1ow3qf2.jpg

Notice the checkered flags?
The previous weekend was the
Canadian Formula One Grand Prix.
I suspect this place was probably pretty packed, then.

IMG_1455_zps5mehugyo.jpg

I just slowly sashayed down the street.
I don't remember the time for sure,
but the street is closed to vehicle traffic at some point.
I think it was noon.
Right now, however, the occasional car or truck would go by.
I stuck mostly to the sidewalks,
but it was easy to go from one side of the street to another.
Or so I thought.

As I was sashaying, I was conscious of a voice
coming closer (and louder) and closer.
A car with a loudspeaker on the roof,
travelling at what I'd consider an excessive speed
for a semi-pedestrian area,
blew by me just as I was about to step off the curb
onto the roadway.
I quickly jumped back and the car careened down
the road, striking a parked car as it went.
It didn't even slow down.
Immediately after it, several police cars flew by in hot pursuit.
One of the cop cars wasn't so lucky and struck the parked car full on.
It came to a jarring halt and another cop car struck it and flipped!!

No.
Wait.

Oh for...

Well this is embarrassing.
That's from The Blues Brothers.
It didn't happen.

I really need to take notes.

I did cross the street.
And I didn't nearly (or even remotely) get run over.

So why did the Ponzi cross the road?
To take a look at these moccasins.

IMG_1456_zpslh7tos9c.jpg

Those tiny ones for babies just tickled my fancy.
I told the vendor to stop poking me in the fancy
with his shoes and moved on.

The view back towards where I'd come from.

IMG_1457_zpsze7h1a3e.jpg

Hey! Does everyone know what time it is?!?!?!?
It's BACKTRACK TIME!!!!!

Before we left for Montreal,
Kay had asked if I could pick her up some
Sucre a la Crème.

Sucre a la Crème is a Quebec and French Canadian delicacy.
It's made by mixing brown sugar, maple syrup,
butter, and cream together
and cooking it into a fudge like consistency.
Kay loves it.
Ruby hates it.
(She affectionately calls it "Sucre a la crap".)

I promised Kay I'd look for it.
And I did.
And I figured if I'd find it anywhere,
I'd find it where tourists congregate.

And I found it right away.
In a corner store.
And it just didn't feel right.
It looked like something you might
expect to find locally but is actually made in China.

Pass.

Back to the present time.
Well... the present time
at that time.
(And ladies and gentlemen,
thank you for flying Backtrack Air!
Your source for all things gone by.)

As I sashayed along, I spied
(with my little eye)
a sign above the street.
"Les Délices de L'Érable".
or "The Maple Delights"
(Actually, the name changed in April to
Délices Érable & Cie)
Don't know why. Whatever.

I took a peek inside and liked what I saw.
So I wandered in.

IMG_1460_zpsa0xvuve5.jpg

Shelves filled with every conceivable type of maple syrup
and maple products.
And Sucre a la Crème is frequently found where
maple products are sold.
And I wasn't disappointed.
I bought some Sucre a la Crème for Kay
and some maple syrup for my Mom;
a well-known maple syrup junkie.

In the back of the store was something
that I loved.
Gelato.
No way I'm passing that up!

IMG_1458_zpszwpcqozu.jpg

They also had a nice selection of chocolates
and other assorted goodies.

IMG_1459_zpso995nyai.jpg

As tempting as it all was,
I contented myself with my gelato.

Well... okay. I also bought some
maple popcorn for later.
But that's it!

I took my purchases outside
and sat and watched the world go by.

Now that's vacationing!

IMG_1462_zpsbavgmcuz.jpg

After finishing my gelato.
mmmm..... gelato.....
Sorry.
After finishing my gelato,
I sashayed off to see what else I could find.

It was a fun walk,
there were art galleries, restaurants,
corner stores, the occasional hotel,
curiosity shops and just about anything
you can think of all along this one street.

IMG_1464_zpsr2tw8kwd.jpg

The side streets were narrow...

IMG_1463_zpsoel6kn6a.jpg

And really narrow.
You could just imagine living
in a time before automobiles
were invented.

IMG_1467_zpsst7085qy.jpg

I passed this archway.
It looked like there may have been
a restaurant in the back.
Dunno. I just took the picture.

IMG_1470_zpsd3arh9ym.jpg

I spotted these windows
(hard to miss)
and knew I had to see what was inside.
I mean, with windows like that
it just has to be cool inside, right?

IMG_1472_zps8hohebca.jpg

Wrong.
It was boring.
There was almost nothing inside.
There were a couple of tables
with T-shirts and cheap crap for sale.
And that was it.
Total waste of time.
Maybe it was a store that was just getting started...
or had just about come to its end.
Dunno.
Stopped caring.

I popped into a couple of art galleries.
But the prices were (as usual)
higher than I wanted to pay.
Good art is expensive.
Please don't ask me what constitutes good art.
Okay, go ahead and ask.
"Good art" is any art that I like.
I don't care if an "expert" agrees or not.
"No, you shouldn't like that. This is what you should like."

Buzz off.
That's like trying to tell me that I should like Brussels sprouts.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no?

Another store I popped into was one called
"Lunch a porter" or Take-out Lunch.
It had all kinds of cool things for portable dining.
Kay is getting more and more into Japanese culture
so these two Bento boxes caught my eye.

IMG_1473_zps4qtuqmqo.jpg

I was realllly torn between the two.
I personally liked the violet one the best,
but Kay likes all things black.
So I chose that one.

She loved it.
And used it a few times to bring her lunch to school.

Around this time, I figured I'd head back to the hotel.
I wasn't in a rush, but I'd come to the end of the area
I wanted to see.
I had walked four sides of a rectangle that was
a little over 1/2 a mile long and a 10th of a mile wide.
There was lots more to see in the area,
but I was happy with what I'd seen
and was ready to relax for a bit.

As I made my way back to the hotel,
I noticed a line of people stretching across
the sidewalk.
It looked like the lunch crowd was trying
to get into a restaurant.
Must be a popular place.
I didn't see line-ups anywhere else.

In short order, I arrived back at the hotel.
I spent the next couple of hours in our room
sitting in a wingback chair with my feet propped up
and a good book in hand.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.....

When Ruby got back to the room
I regaled her with tales of my adventures
and showed her my purchases.
She was suitably impressed.
So much so, that she said she'd like to see
Old Montreal too.

Sure!

And I meant it.
I had no problem walking the same path again.
Heck, with luck, I'd see stuff I hadn't seen earlier.

By the time Ruby changed and got ready,
it was probably around 5:00 - 5:30.

"Where are we going to eat?" Ruby asked.
I said I had an idea.

We walked back in the direction of Old Montreal,
and about 15 - 20 minutes later,
we were outside the same restaurant
that I'd seen people lining up for earlier.
My decision wasn't solely based on that,
I had looked up Boris Bistro in the CAA
(AAA in the US)
handbook and it had good reviews.

We walked up to the host and hostess and asked for a table.
Now I wasn't sure if we could get in or not,
as the review had said that reservations were required.
"Do you have a reservation?" We were asked.
We said we didn't.
"Just a moment." The host stated. "I'll see if something is available."
As soon as he left, the hostess smiled at us and said.
"Don't worry. We can fit you in."
And they did.

But we were fortunate.
It looked like we got the last open table.
After we were seated, we saw several people
come and be turned away.

View from the front:

IMG_1481_zpsedwmhvhn.jpg

And the view from our table.

IMG_1482_zpslvcqbsyt.jpg

It's a neat place.
The building is just a shell.
There's no roof.
There is an adjacent enclosed area
for winter or inclement weather dining.

When we were presented with menus,
my heart skipped a beat.
Ruby is not a fancy diner.
And this place was pretty fancy.
"Is there anything on that menu you think you'd like?" I asked.
She nodded.
Good. I was prepared to leave,
but I'm glad we weren't.

One thing caught my eye immediately.
"French Fries cooked in duck fat."
Wow. Sounds totally decadent.
I ordered that as an appetizer
along with a Sangria for Rub
and something (which I can't recall... Notes!) for myself.

And now, once again, Ladies and Gentlemen!
It's time for...

Wait for it...

BACKTRACK TIME!!!!!
YAY!!!!

A couple of years ago,
Kay and I made a New Year’s....
I'd say more of a bet than a resolution.
We wanted to see if we could go an entire year
without eating fries.

And while it wasn't easy... or all that fun...
We did it.

This past January, we decided that we'd go a year
without chips.
Potato chips to be precise.
(So popcorn chips or corn chips were okay.)

Well, it didn't take Kay very long to fall off the wagon.
She was at a party in February and ate some.
I decided to keep going.
(Gawd how I'm craving those little slices of heaven right now.)

And, once again, back to the present time,
at that time.
(And ladies and gentlemen,
thank you again for flying Backtrack Air!
Your source for annoying anecdotes!)

So there we were, Ruby and I.
Sipping our drinks, chatting
and admiring the scenery.
Our "French fries" arrived.

We thanked the server and continued to chat...
And nibbled on the "French fries".

Wow! These were really good!
I guess cooking them in duck fat really
does make a differ.... er....

Crap! I'm eating chips!!
Oh, well... I'm on vacation.
New rule. It's allowed once on a vacation.

Haven't had any since.
Five more months to go.

Dang it.

Our main courses arrived not long afterwards.
We had both ordered "starter" sizes,
so neither one of us had a big meal.
Which suited us just fine.

Ruby had the tagliatelle with Bulgarian cheese and basil:

She said it was very good.
I settled on the duck risotto
with oyster mushrooms, sage and orange cream sauce:

Looks kind of... horrible, doesn't it?
Yeah. It does.
But Oh. My. God.
Soooooo good.
Easily the best thing I've eaten this year.
I took a bite... wow.
Another...
mmmm.... soooo good.
Another bite...
Oh...Oh god...Ooo Oh God...Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh God...
Oh yeah right there Oh! Oh...Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes...

No wait.... that's from When Harry Met Sally.
Note to self. Take more notes.

Still... it was good.

When we finished our meals
and paid the bill,
(That part wasn't as enjoyable.)
we headed out.
We decided to skip dessert.
We thought it might be fun
to find someplace else for that.
We did the same stretch that I
had done earlier,
except we did it in the opposite direction.

We came across a horse drawn carriage.
The driver had given a little girl
an apple to give to the horse.
Every time she tried to give it to the horse,
the horse would try to get it and she'd drop it.
The driver would pick up the apple,
give it to the girl, who'd try to give it to the horse,
drop it. And repeat.

That happened about four times.
Never found out if the poor horse
got its apple.
We kept on walking so didn't see the end of the show.

I spotted a store that looked interesting,
so we popped in for a quick look.

Didn't buy anything,
but they had lots of interesting treats.

One last pic...

We popped into a few shops here and there,
Not too many, mostly we just strolled.
Unfortunately, we never did find anyplace
that we liked for dessert.
So we did without.

We headed back to the hotel.
There, I asked the concierge
where we could go (nearby) for dessert.

She suggested the train station.

Okay. That's close.
I took Ruby up to the room
and headed back out.

I went into the train station and...
You know when you go to McDonalds,
and they have "apple pie"?
Yeah. It was like that.
Except the restaurant was a St. Hubert
(Think KFC)
and the only dessert was sugar pie.
Fast food sugar pie.

Nope.

I decided to explore a little.
I remembered that we'd seen some
restaurants along our walk the first night.

A few minutes later,
I was passing a Second Cup coffee shop...
I glanced through the window...
Cheesecakes! They have cheesecake!

So that's what I got.
No recollection what kinds of cheesecake.
But hey... at least I didn't give you another
movie memory.

It probably took me about half an hour
from the time I left our room
to the time I got back.

We settled in with our treats.
And that's pretty much how
our last full day in Montreal ended.

Coming up.
Our last day in Montreal.
Here's a preview.
Extremely little happened.
But I'll use it as an excuse
to wrap up this TR.

And just before I sign off on this chapter,
a little update on Luna.
Her stitches came out last Monday
and we were finally able to
(temporarily)
put the cone of shame away.
She's much happier without it.
The vet-tech we saw said the wound looked good.
We go for x-rays on Tuesday to see
how she's healing.

For those of you not on FB
I'm including this updated pic of Luna,
just so you can see that even
with a busted leg, she's still smiling.
And for those who are on FB,
I'm including this updated pic of Luna,
just so you can see that even
with a busted leg, she's still smiling,
since I didn't post it on FB.

Hi! I'm sorry I never got around to commenting on the last update. Summer is super busy and exhausting. I decided to read and quote at the same time this time so hopefully I can get this in before nap is over.
I've got a plethora of pictures for you.
And all (or almost all) are touristy types.

She has yet to hit me upside the head
when I do this.
Good woman you have there!

I'm not kidding.
I did it for you.
Me? Why thank you my dear.

Some of the details get mixed up a bit.
Just a little.

I left the café in high spirits.
The croissant looks yummy. I'm not a big fan of hard boiled eggs though. Your accent marks did come through. Do you speak French too?

Finally arriving at Notre Dame.
Amazing. That is very cool. You could photoshop the Hunchback in those pictures.

Another view of the Basilica.
Still pretty.

They also had a nice selection of chocolates
and other assorted goodies.
Yum! My dream come true. How could you leave without buying some of those chocolate treats. Strong will power.

Ughhhhhh! A spoonful of pasta for dinner. My Italian mother would NOT approve.

Her stitches came out last Monday
and we were finally able to

put the cone of shame away.
Bless her heart, she is a doll. I can tell she has you wrapped around her little paw doesn't she?

Puppy Love!!!
