Flying with WestJet OR AirCanada? PLEASE confirm your flight details!!!!

The cost was staggering. (WELL over $15,000) for this mess and a year for my dad to be even partially compensated by travel insurance.

So I don't ever completely trust an airline with my travel plans and I always try to have a plan B. Sometimes though there really isn't a plan B is there? We had to learn the hard way.

Thank you for the warning. Be wary and top of your reservation with any airline.

That is outrageous! Now I'm going to dig out my documentation for our trip insurance to see what's covered!

Well, crap. I'm glad you started this thread OP. We had booked DD, DSIL, and DGS on a Westjet nonstop Pearson-MCO roundtrip in early Nov. After reading your post I find out they've changed both flights to different times and they're both connecting in LGA. Totally unsatisfactory. We paid extra for nonstop flights. I might expect this from Air Canada. Westjet is starting to lose its shine for us.

That's crappy fursure!! What have the offered you as your options?

Well I'm still pretty annoyed with Westjet (and counting my lucky stars that i wanted the Airmiles for using Expedia) I'm really happy that I've been able to give a heads up to so many of you.

Yes, only Tuesday flights but the first flight this year isn't until JANUARY 24th thru to April 25th.
They were still selling the Thursday flights when i looked on Monday night to confirm carry-on sizes but when i tried on Tuesday after getting the e-mail from the radio station ... nope not there and my itinerary # gave the message "this itinerary has been cancelled" Not only the change in days but the cost is now almost 600.00 pp ... there's no way that the convenience of flying out of that airport is worth paying more than out of Pearson!

Oh bugger that sucks!

I'm in Fergus, so the flight from Toronto wouldn't be horrible....

We are going to time it with my middle DD being 21 on November 4th (2018) so we can drink in Epcot all together. SO the Thursday-Thursday idea was an extra day, but do-able. But I'd rather book from Toronto so we can book any day of the week and have her 21 the entire trip!

Glad you got it worked out, and that I still have 2 years to plan!!

DD is at work, so I'll have to wait until later to find out what happened.

Now, if Westjet loses DGSs pet frog, I'll really be POd. I'm tempted to tell him to just smuggle it into the cabin with him. Maybe in his pants. http://www.disboards.com/threads/westjet-lost-this-womans-gecko.3530145/#post-56177720

I have flights booked with West Jet for March 2017--can I check the status of that flight now?
I've tried logging in into my West Jet page but get an error code when trying to check my Itinerary....stress.

YUP, just go into the site click on "My Trips" and then in the drop down menu "View Trips" -- type in your reservation number and last name and it will show you what THEY have you scheduled to fly (or in my case NOT). You can check it as often as you want .. and believe me, it's something that i will check at least once a week now!
**edited to add a request**
Can you look at your breakdown and tell me if it says "baggage" or not? Ours does now and I'm assuming that because we were in fact bumped up to the Flex level?

Hi Hon
Thanks I checked and it still looks the same as when I bought.
Hang on I will check on the baggage.
back
Mine say first checked bag free but I do have a West Jet World Elite Mastercard.

Just checked mine for December on Westjet. Return flight to Edmonton has changed. Only by 1 1/2 hours earlier, but now I have to change our pick up for returning to the airport. When I went in to see if anything has changed, it stated "these flights are no longer available". That worried me, so I called and everything is fine. I was told someone would have contacted me shortly to notify of the changes.
A few years ago we flew United (never again) and they cancelled our flight and never told us. A month before we were to leave, I checked our ressie only to find out we no longer had a flight. We did get a flight out, but later in the day.

We just booked Westjet out of Halifax last week, direct flights both ways for March . I checked yesterday and a big red banner appeared saying flights changed. Thankfully it was only by 30 minutes one way and 5 minutes the other. Hopefully now that they've announced all their winter schedules things are set, but I'll definitely keep checking. First time flying Westjet, we've flown Jetblue out of Maine previously and had zero issues.

Ugh, that sucks!!
We are flying Westjet to LA for Disneyland at the end of August; eventhough ours is a commuter flight (they have the same flight 7 days a week at the same time pretty much) I checked just to be on the safe side!

Our flights to Aulani for March 2017 were also affected! Westjet canceled their direct Calgary to Honolulu and direct return flights. So now it's Calgary-Vancouver-Honolulu and same on way back. We did get an email about it.

EDITED TO ADD: We didn't get an email from Westjet about the change we got it from our RBC Avion rewards that we booked the flights through.

Long story short (or did that boat already sail??)PLEASE check your WestJet itinerary regularly, don't wait till 24 hours ahead when you do your on-line check in. Seems they had no intention of EVER letting us know. To add another example to this .. F-I-L was to fly out of Hamilton in the summer tried to check in only to find they no longer fly out of that airport!!!
Yep. Happened to me LAST year after they changed their winter schedule. I had booked the first winter flight out of London for my cruise. I got a call/message to tell me to call them. No flight. The ONLY thing that they would do is refund my money at the rate that the US dollar was when I booked them. Then I had to get an AC flight. I still wanted to go out of London, so it was two flights. I kept the WJ flight home, because I wanted to go non-stop. And this was the flight that I had bought the WJ Rewards MC for. Grrrr. The only consolation going AC was, if, for some reason we didn't make the flight (and we almost did:Picture it: Toronto: 2015-Two out of shape, seniors running through the airport, names being called, flight being delayed, phone call to NOT shut the door....) I knew that there were other flights from Pearson that day. WJ only has the one a day. Message clear: Check, check and triple check!

Phew! Finally got our Nov flights sorted. But it meant DD and DSIL had to take an extra day off work, since the only non stop flight is now in the morning ( their original flight was in the evening). The bonus, though is that we will gain an extra 1/2 day in the parks with them, since they'll arrive early afternoon. Fingers crossed they don't change things again. I'm buying our park tickets today.

If you decide to stay overnight do any of the hotels close to the airport offer cheap/free parking and shuttle you to the airport? I know Buffalo offers this. Would that be a better option?

Watch TravelZoo and you'll often see deals that provide stay-n-park deals around the airport early fall through the winter. They are not necessarily the best hotels, but you are essentially parking for free (several deals up to 14 days) and a few offer breakfast and all have shuttles. Our next trip of 12 days, I'll scrape the car off when we get back need be to save $170 over the cost of the Value Garage alone.

I used to swear by the Value Garage when it first opened when promotions seemed to be on-going and it was not as popular as it is now. Last winter one trip I actually drove top to bottom both sides and there was literally not one single spot available anywhere but just everyone else circling around (even the top deck outside) - ended up driving out of the lot and doing the outdoor after cursing for 45 minutes wasted perpetually driving around.

This happened to me on Air Canada but our flight was changed to 1hr earlier and we did get an email from Air Canada.

Just an FYI direct flights of of London to Orlando are still on but only Fridays. I just looked and there are some round trips in 2017 for $360 parking is only $50 for the week if needed. That's is such a great price.

I think that if you book through a travel agent, it's likely the travel agent who is responsible for notifying you of changes, not the airline. (Not positive of that, but what's the use of a travel agent otherwise?)

If you book directly through the airline, they will have your email address on file, and you will be notified of any changes to your flight. Or at least, I've always been notified (most recently a few days ago for our March flights), and always by email.

Sounds like WestJet made some big schedule changes last week. I guess we were lucky - our direct flights only changed by a few minutes in one direction, and a couple of hours on the return. I liked the original itinerary better, but the inconvenience for us is very minor.

In 2013, Air Canada cancelled our 10:30 am flight from Vancouver to LA when we were going to Disneyland. The put us on the 7am flight the same day. I did get a email, and as we were staying over night at a airport hotel (we are from Victoria, but for some reason it was cheaper to take the ferry and stay over in a hotel and fly out of Vancouver) it just meant getting up a bit earlier. However I had chosen the 10:30 flight as not to have to rush in the morning and the hotel room would have been ready when we arrived. Important details when travelling with a young child. DDis now 7 and and experienced traveller , but in 2013 it was only her second trip.
