Universal Orlando doesn't give itself enough credit as a .....

I agree with original poster. I used to be hard core Disney fan. Tired of the Disney's let's schedule everything far in advance, high prices and more for less mind think. I decided to give Universal a try. A vacation at Universal is just more relaxing. I also find their AP to be more a deal and I get more bang for my buck out of the Universal AP

Sorry, I meant for pick up at the airport. Totally fine everywhere else. Only $$ Uber Black can pick up at the airport unless you want to skirt that and make life a bit hard for a few minutes. :)

Oh I see what you mean.........:thumbsup2 Was a bit worried there as I had recommended them for friends to use.....it's their first time without a car and they want to get around quite a bit........:)

I really hope Universal doesn't move toward a more robust meal plan. I think Disneys dining plans have driven the 6-month ADR ridiculousness and I would hate Universal to follow that trend. I found the food reasonably priced in the Parks, Citywalk, and resorts so I have no need for them to complicate things with credits and plans.

I also love that anything 4+ days equals an annual pass. We live out of state but bought APs since we were there for 5 days and now have it in our back pocket for additional trips. If we don't make it back I don't feel, guilty because we would have spent the same on just that trip.

Totally agree with this. I think some planning is fun. Disney just got to be too much. We finally decided two years ago (after Diagon Alley) to do a Universal only trip, and we loved it. We're going back this year in late August. Can't wait! I wish we could go often enough and long enough to justify APs, but for now it's just not an option.

We used to go to Disney just about every 18 months/ 2 years when my kids were little. I HATED that I had to plan where I wanted to eat and therefore which park I would be in on a particular day so far in advance. Personally, I hope that never happens to Universal, I like seeing what I'm in the mood for each day and choosing a restaurant that way.

Now that my kids are older, they have no desire to go back to Disney. They want the thrill rides at Universal. I love that we can walk into the parks from the onsite hotels. I don't plan on renting a car when I head down in November. I think I will use Tony Hinds again to get to/from the airport and Uber if there is anywhere off property we want to go to during our stay. However, we have six nights booked and five whole days that we plan on staying onsite and not doing anything else. I know people say that you can "do" each Universal park in a day, but frankly, I want to experience the parks. I want to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere and not worry about hitting all the rides in one day. I want to sleep in (HEY- it's VACATION!!! I don't want to get up early and race to a park) and go to the pool and lounge around and read a book if I want. I plan on getting us the cheapest annual passes and going into the parks at will over the 5 days. The annual passes are reasonably priced, and it sure makes another trip down within a year a tempting idea. In fact, I'm already considering coming down for a few nights in October 2017 to do HHN with my boys.

I really, really wanted Universal to be a week long vacation for us to replace Disney. Our first Universal trip was 6 nights and we felt like it was one night too long. We prefer Universal to Disney by leaps and bounds, but I would love to see them open a true third gate (not a waterpark) to help fill out a week. For our upcoming trip we are able to use the UOAP's we bought for our last trip so there's plenty of room in the budget for 2 day tickets to somewhere else.

Yes, you can't do Universal in a day......you can do a bit of it though.

With the time you have you'll be able to appreciate the parks and get some resort time. I saw your other post about staying at RPR and good choice! We won't stay anywhere else in Orlando. And we have never made EE in all our stays........

Universal is a relaxing vacation spot, we take our time and take in everything. Because we stay for 18 nights every year, we don't always spend full days in the parks. We have a car and like to get around Orlando and further afield. But adore our park and resort time too. We never get bored there........so many new additions have been made last few years.

Always something fresh to take in for us. We haven't been to Disney since 08 and have no desire to go back......doesn't sound fun to us!

I'm sure you'll have a blast this time, and yes.......you have to come back for HHN!! It's unmissable.....your boys would love it too.......:thumbsup2

I think with the addition of the water park, we'll see ticket length increase and transportation from the airport. There are already permit plans that have been filed for construction of a location at the airport.

I've been reading on another site of future ticket plans for when volcano bay is to be opened

I do not plan to do the third park but love reading about it

Believe it will be a big hit for those that enjoy water parks!

We won't go either mac......no interest in water parks.......but, there is going to be a massive interest in it as it looks fabulous!

It'll be very popular.

You need to check again- I also received the pin code for the portofino and booked a 6 night stay, which included a Saturday from Dec. 17-23. No multiple bookings necessary.

I agree that the OP may have been misinformed by the person on the phone.

I got the same code and booked the same week as you. The weekend was not included in the discount, but I could have booked the Saturday if I wanted to pay the regular price. (I decided to just arrive Sunday and save the money, but Saturday was definitely an option the person I spoke to offered.)

The OP's dates are in October. That is VERY different than going in the dead time which is before Christmas. Weekends in October are like going between Christmas and New Years or Easter Week.

The OP said the dates were not included in the discount code and that Universal does not allow you to book a full week. ThemeParkGuy and I were just stating that that is not true.

The resorts being full and having no availability during busy October weekends is different than saying you cannot book a week-long stay at Universal (ever).

We love staying at UO for 6-8 nights. We have a car and usually visit the beaches, etc. But even if you aren't leaving the property you can really have a full relaxing week long vacation at UO. Plenty of time for the the parks, lots of dinner choices at the hotels or City Walk, and still tons of time to just relax and enjoy your vacation by the pool.

I didn't interpret it that way since the OP is already booked for a week at HRH and was just trying to change their hotel to save money. So they must know that they can book a week.

There are only king rooms available during weekends at PBH in October. This may be the cause of them not being able to get a full week.

Hello all , OP here. Thought I would give an update on the booking with a pin code issue.
After I received a card in the mail with the same pin code I decided it wouldn't hurt to call again to see if we could change from Hard Rock to PBH. I was told this time that yes I could book for the week with the pin code but it would be three separate reservations bc of the blackout dates. The rate was $198 for the pin code dates and around $351 for the weekend dates. I wrote down the information to discuss with my husband and after some discission we decided to call back and make the change. This time the person on the phone seemed a little more knowledgeable
and said there was no need to have 3 reservations they could do it all in one. And....he quoted me a price of
$183 with my pin code, with the blackout dates being $324! So lesson learned, it's worth it to call back and see if you get a different answer. We are excited to be trying out PBH and appreciate all the helpful suggestions and answers from you all!

P.S. I know I'm in the minority but I still wish for Universal Bands and a good dining plan:D
