Unrented cabanas?

We are going to climb Diamondhead one morning and plan to return to Aulani for the afternoon. If there are unrented cabanas, will they not allow anyone to use them since there is no 1/2 rental? Was thinking if one was free we could use it from 1-6 or so but I don't want to pay full price for 1/2 the time. I would think they would rather get some of the money than have it sit unoccupied for no money.

I don't think it's very often there's a cabana that's unrented, unless someone cancels morning of. But I suspect they'd be able to fill it by someone just checking availability that morning. To my knowledge, however, they don't have half day pricing.

I was wondering that too since the cabanas near the Menehune Play area did not look rented a couple of days from our trip (the Menehune area was closed those days, so that may have been why). I thought about asking, but we already had chairs and never really sat still very long with the kids anyway.

When we were there in May we rented a cabana one day. There were three cabanas in a row, but only ours was occupied. So, sometimes there may be an available cabana. You'll just need to check when you go.

FWIW, Aulani does not impose a penalty for people who are no shows to their cabana reservations. If someone reserves a cabana and then doesn't bother to cancel it, I'd suspect it would stay as reserved until a certain time if not the whole day. I don't know if they have a "cut off" for when you'd need to check in by. If they don't, that could be why sometimes cabanas look empty, if the renters were no shows.

You could not show up until 2pm and still have your cabana...but you will be charged for it regardless of when you show up if you don't cancel it the night before.

Ok I stand corrected. Perhaps it's just the casabellas there is no penalty for? I just made reservations for the casabellas near Ama Ama. They said there was no certain time I needed to cancel by, but if we know we won't be able to use them, to let them know as a "courtesy". That led me to believe there was no penalty if I didn't cancel or show up by a certain time.

You need to check-in for the cabana/lanai/upper veranda/lower veranda by 10 AM and if you have not checked in, then it is considered a cancellation.

We loved our cabana rentals and hadn't been able to get it for a day so we put our name on a waitlist in the morning (around 9:00 AM) and by 10:30 they called us to let us know they had a no-show and we snatched up the cabana. At first they didn't change the name listed on the little "Welcome" sign. Around noon a couple showed up at the cabana and stared at us. Shortly after a CM came over and swapped out the reserved name on our cabana so it said our name, so we guessed it was the people considered a "no show". I am not sure if they call people to warn them they are going to give away the cabana (like a 10 minute warning), but I know we received a call each evening before our rental making sure we were aware it was our responsibility to check-in for the cabana between 9 and 10 at Rainbow Reef.

In the week we were there, we noticed a fair number of people/families that rented cabanas and spent very, very little time in them. It made our use all the more peaceful!

we were at Aulani 3 years ago and we were able to do a half day rental. It was similar to the situation LottiesMommy described, but because it was after noon, thy charged us 1/2 day.
