Hearing from a few sources that runDisney is no longer going to offer deferrals. Only those that have been processed to date will be valid and the option will no longer be offered going forward.

Has anyone else heard similar?

No, but I'm not surprised. I'm expecting them to be gone at some point. :confused3

Why would you habe expected defferals to go away at some point? They have been offering them to a small amount for years now so I was shocked to hear that would no longer be an option. I asked for clarification from the person who was told it and they said it was indeed for all races not just the current defferals so if You signed up for Marathon Weekend and got hurt you have no option to recoop your loss of a bib since transfees aren't available.

Some are saying since Paris is allowing transfers then maybe Disney will start allowing transfers for Us races.

I guess I just feel like runDisney has been taking stuff away lately, and with deferrals they were offering them later and later, like really close to the race weekends (example: I deferred this year's PDC to 2017 on April 18, about 2.5 weeks before race weekend!).

I've always been surprised that they actually HAVE had them (and really grateful for the option this year, since I have to do it for the first time - twice :crazy2:), since most other races do not...and like you said, they don't do transfers...and they seem so disorganized. :confused3 Just a hunch I've had.

That makes sense. I never tracked them just knew they were there so was kind of caught off guard. I never used one but it was a nice safety net.

Yeah, definitely. I had to defer GSC as well and it was SUPER easy to use the deferral a couple of weeks ago to sign up for 2017.

When I was waiting for the link to pop up for Tink weekend, I was getting sick thinking that they'd taken the deferrals away...and I really truly was not ready to do the challenge at the point. That would have really hurt to have lost that money!

And I submitted my GSC deferral more like mid-January, so 5-6 weeks before race day compared to Tink, which was a WAY shorter timeframe.

If I had to choose between deferrals and the ability to trasnfer your bib I'd take the later. I don't mean selling it on eBay or anything like that but the ability to transfer them through an official, RunDisney sanctioned channel.

There is absolutely, positively, no reason why this isn't available from a technology standpoint. Anyone who attempts to give you a reason is lying or misinformed. RunDisney is just too greedy to offer it but greedy is the most accurate adjective to describe RunDisney as of late.

As one who hopes deferrals stick around through marathon weekend as I'll be oh 38 weeks pregnant...

Since I'm local I'd more likely start get the mile or so then take the bus vs not starting to at least get 'my money's worth'

Then I'd prob give up most if not all run dis races or now most aren't selling out register when life is more 'official' cause I'm over 10 month out registrations with zero options

No longer offering deferrals has been a strong rumor for the past year. At this point, it sounds more like a "when" vs "if". I'm guessing they went from a few deferrals to dozens, especially with the rapid increase in the number of race weekends. The good news with races not selling out, is that people can wait longer to sign up or not sign up at all if plans don't allow.

With them offering exclusive early registration packages for previous Dopey runners this year, RD is DEFINITELY up to something as far as registration goes. They also offered trip insurance if you booked a room/ticket/bib package with them for Dopey this year.

I imagine that will be the new norm for deferral possibilities going forward.

Yep, I think you're right. With GSC, I had a day or two to think about it before actually submitting my deferral. A few months later when I went to defer the PDC, I was thankfully tipped off that the link was posted by @Keels. Apparently those deferrals filled in 30 minutes or something crazy. :confused3

No transfers is not just a runDisney thing. I would get it as being greedy if it was only runDisney doing it but NYRR who runs all the big races here including NY Half and NY Marathon doesn't allow transfers either. We've had many people in our office offer up bibs when they get into stuff and don't want to run it. Myself and a coworker the only two who were actively running races had to inform them that you can be banned from future NYRR events if you are caught giving your bib away.

Just called to ask about deferrals for the Disneyland half on behalf of my boyfriend since I had some time to kill at work. Just got told no deferrals.... Looks like I'm going back to Disneyland and he is NOT a happy camper.. He was sort of relying on it.

If rD stops allowing deferrals, they will lose challenge participants. One might be willing to risk $150, but not $600. I know that I would never register for another challenge if I could not defer or in some other way be guaranteed of getting my money back if I could not participate.
