going to the world end of Sept/ first of Oct and just had a back injury where my right leg is mostly numb and my heel doesn't lift off the ground well. Because of this I have a painfully slow awkward gait. Probably going to get a knee scooter so I can continue working (as a nurse) until treatment plan is decided I have read over the facts and have a couple questions. I can walk without it but it isn't pretty and not for long.
At the bottom of this page, met here are links to the park map for guests with disabilities for each park. They gave a little bit more information about access than the regular park maps.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/guests-with-disabilities/
The little symbol of a person in an ECV transferring to a wheelchair generally means the attraction line is not ECV accessible, but you can transfer to a wheelchair at the attraction if you need to. They will have attraction wheelchairs available.
Sometimes the line is accessible to
ECVs and it means there is a wheelchair accessible ride car that is not ECV accessible, so if you need the accessible vehicle, you need to be in a wheelchair to use it.
The CM at the attraction entrance will be able to direct you what to do.
1) space mtn - prob won't ride this one but if I do how do I access the line standby? Is there still steps? Would fast pass be better? This ride depends on my back being ok obviously
If you have Fastpass, you are going to be able to go right on. If not, they will probably give you a time to return.
2) we have dining plan for Fantasmic and always sit in front row. Is there still a ramp to there (have never seen this personally). If so how do I go about accessing it? It is very important to my daughter that we sit down front for her favorite show.
There is a limited amount of front row seating for mobility devices. You may not need one of the large ECV/wheelchair parking spots with a knee walker because it is not as large. The ramps to the front are on the far right and left of the seating area.
On page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is a post with information about wheelchair ride car availability. It also includes information about where the accessible seating is located for shows.
3) splash is another favorite. We plan to fast pass this but how much longer does it take to get on the ride once you get diverted from the stairs.
The distance is not that far. The time will depend on how many are ahead of you.
The bypass at the stairs takes you to a covered seating area with benches where you will wait until a CM comes to get you to board.
The regular boarding area is on one side of the track and the unloading is straight across on the other side. Boarding and unloading for guests with mobility devices is on the 'exit' side of the track. Because it is a fairly small and busy area, the CM will come and get your group from the seating area just before they are ready for you to board.
4) Haunted mansion - do you go in with the masses from the stretch room into the moving walkway? What happens to the knee scooter when I get onto the ride?
The entire line and all the show rooms are accessible.
When you come into the building, the CM will give you directions on where to be in each room.
At the end of the stretching room part of the show, don't follow the 'masses'. After the majority of people have left, a CM will direct you where to go. There is a small hallway that connects to the exit.
You will wait in the hallway until called by the CM for boarding. If you need the knee walker to get from the hallway to the boarding area, you would be able to use it until, boarding and they will park it in a little alcove at the end of the moving walkway.
They try not to stop the moving walkway if possible (people inside the ride may try to get out of their ride vehicle if it stops). They CAN stop it if needed or can slow it to a crawl. You need to let them know what you need.
The parking area for ECVs is at the courtyard outside at the exit, just after you get out of the building. If you park it there yourself before boarding, you will have at least a 300 foot walk to get back to the area for boarding. You could wait in the boarding area while another member of your group drives it there and parks it and at the end, you can wait while they go get it.
5) can I take it into restaurants like BOG and San Ange Inn? Where do I put it - those rooms are pretty packed in with tables. I honesty don't want to leave it outside in stroller parking ever.
It can depend somewhat on how busy they are. You can use it to get to or close to your table and then the CM will move it to a 'parking' location. Let the CMs know what you need.
6) spaceship earth - we usually fast pass this but I read there is an alternate entrance. Can I use he main entrance with the knee scooter or is it too steep.
Spaceship Earth is one of the original attractions from when EPCOT opened and it was designed to efficiently deliver a single file line of guests to the ride cars. There is no space for mobility devices at the boarding area and no way to get them from load to unload.
The handicapped waiting area is at the exit, at the bottom of the exit ramp. There is seating on one side and parking space on the other side. The ramp is fairly steep and you will need to go up it to board and down to leave.
Power devices can't be brought to the loading area, but a manual wheelchair, rollator or knee walker could be if needed. The CM will park them by the control station.
There are manual wheelchairs to lend at the waiting area.
7) and finally (for now) do you load test track with everyone else and what do they do with the scooter. The exit is on the other side. I know they move the assist devices but not sure how they cross the track.
Thanks so much.[/QUOTE]
You would go thru the line as usual and board as usual. Just before the boarding gates the CM will take the mobility device. Small ones could be lifted across the ride car to the other side. Others will be taken to the elevator, on a bridge across the track and then down another elevator on the other side.
Oops one other thing on resort busses do I wait in the regular line and carry it up into the bus? It is a fairly heavy knee scooter - 30lb or so. It has bigger han usual tires - like small bike tires. That makes it easier for me to travel the couple blocks from parking into the hospital I work at. I am guessing magical express they put it under the bus and I climb the stairs - I can probably do that with a good handrail.
For DME, if you can climb the steps, they will put it under the bus for you. If you can't climb the steps, you will need to request a lift bus. They have wheelchairs you can borrow to use the lift.
For regular buses, use the same boarding as wheelchairs.
