Once and For All: Turndown Service is Gone?

I tried searching for this to no avail.

We were at Aulani 3 years ago and enjoyed turndown service. I've seen a couple of people on this board say that Aulani no longer offers this, but then others chime in saying that DVC members don't get turndown service, but regular hotel gusts do. We're not DVC members and we're staying in a one bedroom villa this October.

Thanks so much to anyone who has an answer!

We were just there 7/11-7/18 staying in a 2 bedroom villa that we paid cash for, not points. We are not DVC members. We did not receive turn down service.

We stayed in May of this year. We had a grand villa and 3 two-bedroom villas. All were cash reservations, and all received turndown service every night.

OMG I'm so confused! I feel silly calling the resort and asking about this, but that may be the only way. Thank you for your reply.

we were in a one-bedroom villa in april, paid cash, not DVC, and i do not recall any turndown service either.

We were there last week in an ocean view regular resort room. We never had turn down service.

I have never heard of turndown service in a hotel, especially a timeshare. I thought that was just found on cruise ships. Show's how little I know.

I'm wondering if different people have different ideas of turndown service, and that may be part of the confusion?

We had daily housekeeping service (1 bedroom villa) in May/June, and WHAT they did totally depended on the time of day it was serviced. Of course they did the usual towels/bathroom and kitchen straightening up no matter what. But what they did with the beds was never the same. I guess it could have depended on the staff member doing the servicing, but it seemed more the time of day. If we were out in the morning and they came early - they closed up the sofa and murphy beds, etc., and they didn't come back again. If we were in and out of the room in the morning and left the do not disturb sign on, then they came later, and it was more like they were getting the place ready for sleeping. Sofa and murphy beds neatened up but not put away, kids' stuffed animals perched in the beds for them, etc. So I could see people calling that "turndown service" if they only had service later in the day and didn't come back to their rooms until the evening. Never any chocolates on the pillow or that sort of thing.

What I'm talking about, and what we experienced last time was a complete 2nd visit each day from housekeeping during which, the beds were "turned down", chocolates and orchids were left, a Daily Iwa was left on the bed and the room was generally freshened up. Sounds like that doesn't happen anymore. I'm hearing you have to go down to the lobby for the Iwa now???

there was definitely no 2nd visit each day, nor chocolates / orchids (you can see a picture of what was on our bed the first afternoon after we checked in).

and yep, get the Iwa from the lobby (hence i didn't pick 'em up until the next day for our first few days there).

during our stay in aulani, i thought to myself, how i missed the nightly turndown service from DCL!

Oh wow, nothing at all like that for us in 8 nights!! You can get the Iwas in the lobby, definitely, and also random other places (like the Makahiki check-in desk, etc.), but it was never left in the room for us. They only reliable place to get the next day's Iwa the night before was the lobby, either the concierge or front desk. No chocolates. No orchids. Now I'm all sad we never had that! :( Good thing we hoarded Disneyland chocolates and left them in random luggage pockets instead.

Attempting to post a picture. DH reminded me that they also left bookmarks featuring the two towers each day. Apparently he's still using them.

OK, we did have the bookmark in the room when we checked in, but that was a one-and-done. No chocolates. There was probably a fresh orchid sprig sitting on it, I think? And a flower hair clip. But that was all just when we checked in, and nothing after.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa on a cash reservation in late May/early June for 8 nights (our first stay). Never had turn down service of any kind. No chocolates, no towel flowers, no bookmarks. We did get a plastic flower clip in the room, on arrival day. Turn down would have been super nice, but I'm guessing they don't do it anymore. We only had housekeeping visit once a day, in the morning, since we were out of the room in the mornings every day. They were very good about leaving extras of whatever we requested by leaving a note (extra toiletries, extra towels etc), so overall I felt the Mousekeeping was excellent. However, I would have been a little disappointed had I known about the prior turn-down service... Ignorance=Bliss.

No, no...we had turndown service. They left chocolates and orchids on all the pillows, turned the beds down, closed the blinds, turned on the bedside lights, cleansed up the towels, emptied the trash, and many times they left a bakery treat or a fruit plate.

Well now I'm super bummed!! Oh well, maybe we'll luck out next time. :)
