Duke's

This is possibly a silly question. I am attempting to plan without over-planning, if that makes sense.

We will be in Maui and then on Oahu. We have a morning planned at Pearl Harbor with some time in Waikiki.

I know we want to try and eat at Duke's, either in Maui (when we're in Ka'anapali) or in Waikiki.

How far in advance is a reservation necessary? I know normal people think like maybe a week in advance, but Disney's brainwashed me to think 180 days is normal, ha!

Like I said, trying not to over-plan, so is a few days (or that morning..) a possibility?

Haven't been to the Maui location but we have walked up and been seated in the Waikiki location several times. It's pretty popular at happy hour but outside of that time you shouldn't have a problem being seated there within a reasonable time.

we never make any reservations for lunch, but for dinner usually 2 weeks for a good table. Reservations get the outside two rows or as it is called the rail, the tables inside are not as nice. Also the musicians tend to stay in the outside two rows. This is in Waikiki. Maui is a little more formal. You do not want to show up at Dukes in the 6-7 hour hungry without a reservation.

Just a side note that I found many restaurants both on Maui and in Oahu that are on Open Table for reservations. I believe you have to call for Duke's, but everything else I found on Open Table!

We booked Duke's in Waikiki about 2 months ahead of time through OpenTable. I'm not sure it was necessary to book that far ahead, but it made me feel like I was making progress during the long wait for our trip :cutie:. I noticed for our date and the dates around it, OpenTable only had times before 5 p.m. or after 9 p.m. - we ended up taking 4:45 p.m. and got a table on the rail. I think there may have been more availability if we called but we were ok with eating early.

FYI. We made a reservation at least 3 weeks in advance for a party of 6 and ended up inside (not the outside two rows). I'm not sure if having a reservation in advance guarantees a rail table. In our case it didn't.

I made a reservation at Duke's on Waikiki about 2 months in advance and asked for a rail table. However we had a hard time figuring out the parking situation, and where to park for validated parking, so we were pretty late. (I believe it was Ohana East Parking Garage.) So we did not get the table we wanted. But we still had an awesome dinner.

just ate at the waikiki location twice last week.
i've heard that even if your party size is small you need to make reservations in advance.
no granted we had a group of 82 so we had to make the reservation months in advance and we had to be there at 6:45am for them to accommodate us!

the food is good though.
i love the multiple types of syrup they have for the morning buffet.

another great place to eat is the wooden bucket in waikiki if you're in the market for recommendations.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

I'm still torn on whether to do Maui or Waikiki, but we still have about 1.5 months so I think I have some time. :) I appreciate all of the helpful responses.

For Duke's Waikiki, I'm not finding it on Open Table. I do see Duke's in Maui and in Kauai, but not the Waikiki location. Anyone know if they've removed that location from Open Table?

I just went to the Duke's Waikiki homepage and when I click on the make a reservation tab along the right hand margin and then click "continue reservation" in the pop up box, it brings me to OpenTable.

Thanks! I was able to get to it through this. For some reason it's not accessible through OpenTable.com.

Does anyone know if the Duke's on Oahu is the same as Duke's in Malibu?

Duke's on Oahu is much better than Duke's on Maui.

If I was going to eat at a TS restaurant on Maui I'd choose Leilani's, Kimo or Hula Grill over Duke's.

I also think Hula Grill on Oahu is better than Duke's Oahu.

You only need reservations in advance if you really have to have a specific time or a table on the rail.

I wanted dinner reservations at Dukes Waikiki but the Open Table link would only give me 4:45pm. We called Dukes to ask if we could get a later time and the person on the phone said no, they only take walk up after the 4:45 seating.

We still went for the 4:45 reservation anyways and when we checked in, my husband wanted to make sure that we were sat at a table with good air flow/cool and the ladies said no problem! We were given a pager and asked to sit even with the reservation. They said they will be seating everyone with the 4:45 time soon. The restaurant looked empty to this point. Soon they started seating people all over the place. When it was our turn, they led us to a 4top right by the rail, next to the hotel pool, and in the sun!! I hardly felt this was a cool spot sitting in direct sunlight, but it was open to any island breeze at least. Luckily my DH had sunglasses on and my DD kind of hid behind some poles and the light screen they had up to block some sunlight for a while. When dinner was almost over the sun has finally fallen down far enough to not be an issue anymore. My girls declared this to be the best meal of our trip!! We had the Hula Pie, 4 spoons please, for dessert! Not to be missed.
