Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Summer 2017 (replaces ToT)

You guys... It's gonna be fine. Nobody even remembers the Twilight Zone it aired from 1959- 1964. I loved the ride, but I had never seen the show (I wasn't born until after it was over). I'm not a huge GOTG fan either but I am sure I will love this ride too, as long as it's well done and fun to ride. I know it sucks sometimes when the things we are used to change but change can be good too. I'm taking a "wait and see" approach.

Obviously, this is a first-world problem and we're all gonna be ok. I was also born well after Twilight Zone stopped airing. But they still showed, and do still air the show today. Many of us who love the theming are going to be upset, regardless of how they would re-do the theming. The fact that it's something that isn't even hugely relevant today (it's not like it's Star Wars popular or anything) is just an added slap in the face.

I was born after the show too, but always used to watch it every time I saw it running on tv when I was younger. For those of you who haven't seen Twilight Zone, you really should make a point to see it- Eye of the Beholder was always a favorite episode of mine. For those who have seen it, don't forget to look for Twilight Zone artifacts before the ride- the thimble, the pocket watch, and the fortune telling machine, to name a few. There might be other items but I haven't made the connection yet. And sometimes you can hear the girl stuck in the wall while you wait for your elevator.

You'd be wrong here. I was born in the 70s but I watched this show in syndication. I LOVED it. Istill do. In fact, on July 4 and New Years Day, the SyFy channel does a marathon and I DvR a bunch to watch throughout the year. Even my little kids love watching it with me.

When we first rode this at WDW in 2002, it was pure satisfaction. One of my favorite shows combined with a thrill ride. It was awesome. Then DL made this ride the big pull at DCA, and we love it. I even heard my 5yo tell someone this week it was her favorite ride. I guess I get to explain to her why corporate heads are idiots that take the most popular rides in the parks and change the theme to a movie that's watch-it-once and move on.

Shoot, I don't even show GOTG to my kids, it's so vulgar. And they won't watch the cartoon. Too boring they say. Great! Now we have a ride based on a blah movie's 10th most important character. Lame. Why don't we just retheme the Winnie the Pooh ride to Porkin's Death Star Crash.

I love ToT. It's a great ride, awesome theming, and includes some cleaver tech (though I am still a bit dark that DCA didn't get the full ride from WDW). It sucks when our favorite rides change.

I haven't seen the original Haunted Mansion in many years (as my holiday leave time is Oct through Dec...only able to take holiday leave in those months), and that sucks...but I do like Haunted Mansion Holiday.

My favorite ride as a kid was the mule train. The day that I went running to spend my ticket in that only to find it closed for some 'dumb new ride' is well etched in my mind. But I love Big Thunder Mountain. Okay, that's an example of knock down re-build.

Let's look at the subs...love Nemo.

Lots of iconic attractions have been changed...without the change we wouldn't have: Space Mt, Star Tours, Winnie the Pooh ride, and so on.

Yes, there have been failures (Rocket Rods for example) but by far, the new attractions are better liked/tollerated.

I know it's sad to see it go (hey, I'm going in Oct and will be riding multiple times...and will be the annoying person with their camera out...), but I'm willing to let them try something new. Only time will tell if it is received well or not.

IThe ride is already built and working. They're really just doing a massive redecorating (no matter how enthusiastic the guy in the video sounds, they're just redecorating a ride).

Actually, it sounds like they might be putting in the WDW randomizer.... "Guests will experience multiple random, unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift will rock to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack." That's kind of a huge deal.

I was born in the 90s and I watch the original Twilight Zone series with my mom! Love the holiday marathons :)
I absolutely LOVE ToT and I am SOOO sad to see it go. The theming is amazing and just a really great vibe and fits so well in the Hollywood section of the park. Plus I love the movie Tower of Terror... so that's also a plus! I don't mind change, but the only changes we seem to be seeing are in the form of super heroes and Star Wars.. not a fan of either. I always liked Disney due to it being different from other parks ... I like the cute characters that were made famous by Disney that we have known and loved for years. I also like the imagination and the magical feel you get from being inside Disneyland and seeing all of the childhood favorites brought to life. I feel as though the parks are slowly losing the charm that makes them so special and dear to a wide variety of people spanning many different generations.

I think it'll be really cool. If you watch the movie, you can see the amazing potential for visuals with the "Collector" theming. My main issue before was the rumour was it would shut down for refurb immediately after Halloween. It didn't make much sense that they would shutter another attraction before Christmas, just from a crowd control perspective, so I'm glad they're waiting until January. We get to ride it again, knowing it's the last time, and experience the new one when it comes. It's still a drop ride, so that's good.

You say it's a blah movie, yet it's one of the highest rated (based on RT critic reviews) movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one of the highest grossing ones as well. As for it being vulgar, wasn't any more then any other movie in the MCU. It's arguably considered by fans to be in the top 3 behind only the first Iron Man movie and the first Avengers movie.

I am ok with the change especially since I consider the DCA version to be inferior to the WDW version. The Tokyo DisneySea version shows how good a non TZ version of this attraction could be.

The main thing to consider is that once the Marvel Land is done it could fit much better.

From what I heard... The bus area will become extra backstage space to have another connection to Disneyland's backstage area. The trolley tracks near Hyperion will make a left instead of right and the new trolley backstage house will be where the buses are now aka as the new backstage area.

The current backstage area near Cars Land will become Marvel Land with Tower being the first attraction you see. The second attraction will be a clone of the Shanghai Tron ride system coaster but themed to Avengers or Captain America cycles. Bugs Land is also on chopping block. If they build this quickly Ant Man may be the quick redo theme or they gut it all including Tough to be a Bug for extra expansion space and a main entrance to the new Marvel Land.

Well... if "Marvel Land" becomes a reality, it will be one area I can skip, so my touring will be a little bit easier.

I feel like throwing up. Universal builds a whole new Harry Potterland and Disney puts a seat cover on one its best rides. Cheap. I think that dangly ear lobe is messing with Joe's thinking. Just build a third gate you tight empty suits. Leave the good stuff alone.

This would've been great to turn Innoventions into something worth doing. Nah, lets ruin DCA instead.
This isn't Joe's fault this comes straight from Iger and Chapek.

I'm actually very much in favor of this. My DD8 rode ToT two years ago at DHS, but not again since, as it was a terrifying experience for her. She was going to go when we went to DCA last month, and that had a complete melt-down in line, so that she and I had to use the chicken exit. Part of her problem is the name, "Tower of Terror." She likes GotG. Maybe she'll get past her anxiety and actually ride it, now. I myself am not a big fan of droppy rides, but I like GotG enough that I'll go.

My thoughts exactly. Doing a Marvel area just doesn't have that special Disney feel to me.

I think this is going to be what makes the additions "okay." There's also going to be something with the backstory of Rocket breaking them out, that will take time to put in. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it. But in general most of the changes are cosmetic. I hope they really can pull off this transformation in ~5 months.

It's been about 14 months since I've been to the parks. Since then Disney has added a new night time parade and fireworks (I really hope these are showing next summer) full of Magical Disney characters. They also enhanced both Peter Pan and Matterhorn. In DCA they've upgraded Soarin', added a new Luigi ride, and closed Aladdin for the new Frozen spectacular. None of those changes are related to Star Wars or Super Heroes. When we go next year the Star Wars Land will not yet be open and Season of the Force will be over. Likely this new Tower will be open though. But the majority of the new stuff for us will not be Star Wars or Super Hero related.

The fact that it's something that isn't even hugely relevant today (it's not like it's Star Wars popular or anything) is just an added slap in the face.
You say, "It's not like it's Star Wars popular or anything" like 'Star Wars popular' is something easily attainable. What is Star Wars popular right now besides Star Wars? That aside, it's hugely relevant today. The original movie broke box office records at the time (and still holds the record for an opening weekend box office in August). It pulled in almost $800m worldwide! When my dad (who is 60+) saw it, he said afterwards, "I haven't felt this excited about a movie since the original Star Wars." As others have said, many people think it's up in the top 3 or top 5 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is saying something. It's up there with the likes of Iron Man, the Avengers, and (my favorites) the Captain America movies.
Your kids are right. The cartoon isn't very good. But the people involved with the movie (namely James Gunn, the writer and director) aren't involved in any way with the cartoon. Also, if you read the description instead of jumping to conclusions after the first paragraph, you'll see that it's not based on the Collector (10th most important is pretty accurate, good call there). It's more going to be based on Rocket trying to help the other Guardians escape the Collector.

My daughter had a similar experience. She was psyched to ride it (she was 6), but the theme actually scared her quite a bit. She was super nervous. She loves screaming on "scary" rides, but on Tower, she was completely silent during the ride, and just looked terrified. When it stopped, she cried. "I don't want to turn into a ghost!" I'm not proud of it, but I laughed pretty hard at that. Even though I explained to her that it's just a story, she vowed to never ride it again. Maybe with this, she will.

Besides that, even, I'm excited for this. It sounds like they've put some real thought into it, and that it's going to capture a lot of what made the movie great. Comedy, action, and a great soundtrack. I'll be sad to see Twilight Zone's theme go away, because it was incredibly immersive and some of the best theming in the park. I get it.

So, So sad. I am 45.... been visting Disneyland since 1976. Lots of changes have taken place, as Disneyland will never be finished.
Now, Disney is chasing the almighty dollar, and sadly the younger age group than I, they think spend more money there?
Just seems that way to me.

Great theming, RIP

--Lori

I am turning 42. This isn't a generational thing. I am the demographic they're chasing for GotG as are my husband and my social circle. They're pursuing the comic geeks, there are lots of us and yes, we spend plenty of money.
