Darby impacting Aulani?

We left Aulani about 10 days ago -- had a great time, but when we were there I was curious what happens in a huge storm.

Is anyone on the board there now? I guess Darby is not supposed to get as close as it will to Maui, but I'm wondering what the castmembers are doing to prepare and what they are advising guests to do.

Fill us in!

We arrived today and honestly....no one seems too worried about it. We had planned Pearl Harbor tomorrow and while we know the Arizona may not be a go, we are going forward with our plans. We climbed Diamond Head earlier today....was awesome. A few rain bands moved through but nothing major. Will keep you posted!

We were there 2 years ago when the double hurricanes hit. We arrived the day before they were supposed to hit Oahu. It was a very interesting situation and it went hour by hour. We were told via a paper letter under the door and by phone message that it was possible the pools would not be operational but the storm(s) weakened and only manifested as rain so that didnt happen. It was actually great because many people made rain plans and didnt stay at the resort that day. The pools were not busy and the slide line ups non existent.

The one thing that did happen was no one was allowed into the lagoon and that was strictly enforced, I guess because of sudden swells and super-strong undertows and we totally understood and appreciated this.

Aulani was totally on top of the situation and made sure everyone was aware of what might happen.

We did have a hard time finding a case of bottled water though. Everyone on the island was stocking up on it and it was very hard to come by so we bought a couple of jugs and disposable cups as that was all we could find. The news was full of images of landslides too, and that was something I had never even considered. They were warning that with the huge amounts of rain that were possible, it was important to be caustious in certain areas of the island because of mud and landslides while driving or hiking.

So...no letter from Disney this am so I think its just a rain/wind event that will be minimal. We are headed to Pearl Harbor today, sad we will miss Arizona (I'm sure it will be closed) we are trekking ahead with our plans!

Very interesting! Thanks to both of you for sharing.

msaseifert, I hope you had a good time despite the Arizona being closed.

Great news!!! Our time for the Arizona was 9am ...we didn't get cancelled! We got there at 8am, minimal winds, off and on ran showers at 9am so we were a go. I think they did stop later in the day though. We spent our entire day at Pearl Harbor, by the time we got back to Aulani at 3:30 the sun was shining. The 21 year old hit the fitness center for a couple of hours, the 17 year old hung out in the room...hubby and I hit the adult pool for a bit, had a drink. We had dinner in our room then went back out for a lazy river round with the family! Perfect day!!! Darby.....non event!

Glad that you were able to see the Arizona. Just read that Oahu is getting hit hard. According to the person who posted (on another website) the impact on Oahu was unexpected. Lots of damage, flooding on the Big Island.
Stay safe.

Definitely some thunderstorms last night. However here in Honolulu it's partly cloudy with some sun. Tomorrow should be a clear day.
