Sofa bed recommendations

anyone have any experience with sofa beds or single chair beds? I'm thinking of ways to manage extra overnight guests in a studio apartment like setup so I thought I'd get another round of helpful info from the diverse crowd on here because you are all usually so helpful

I have not owned a sofa bed in years. I don't like them because they usually are not comfortable and are so heavy. It would be cheaper and easier to just buy an air bed.

We have 3 queen sized bed sofa beds, one in the family room, one in the living room, and one in our 4th bedroom which is the one that gets the most use. After 20+ years the sofa on the last one is fine, but we are starting to look for a replacement mattress. We had to have sofas for the living room and family room, and we figured we should get sofa beds just in case, and there have been times when all 3 were occupied. No advice other than get a queen size one if space allows.

We have had a lazy boy sofa bed for years. Haven't used it as much as we thought we would. It's not the most comfortable mattress, it's just okay. We also have air mattresses. Recently used a lot as we purchased a new home and slept on them for a long time before our belongings arrived. My husband actually used air mattress for 6 months because he moved before us. Anyway, he felt the air mattress was more comfortable. Actually said he had less hip pain. But, like I said, we have air mattresses, I've seen an air bed which seems more substantial and comfortable as the previous poster mentioned. If you need the seating, than a sofa bed may be the way to go. But if it's something you just want to put away once your guests leave, perhaps an air bed would be a better option.

We have both an air mattress and a sofa bed. Both have been used by both us and guests. By far the air mattress if more comfortable but the sofa bed is not bad. It's made by Ethan Allan.

I have a sofa bed and an air mattress. The air matress is more comfortable than the sofa bed. The size and weight of the sofa bed made it a royal pain to move (even using professional movers) because it is hard to fit throught the doorway.

If I had it to do over again, I would have just purchased a regular sofa or perhaps a daybed, since the air mattress seems to be preferred anyway.

I will say do NOT get one from Ashley furniture! We have one and it is AWFUL! The construction on them is horrible, we have one sofa bed and one regular sofa. They are both absolutely terrible quality.

We have 2 air mattresses as well. Many of our guests are elderly so air mattresses on the floor aren't an option.

I have both a sofa bed and an air mattress, and I FAR prefer the sofa bed because air mattresses tend to be loud, cold, and always seem to lose air during the night. I actually just replaced my old sofa bed with a new pull out type, and I think the pull out is much better. The type with the bed part inside have mattresses that are necessarily thin, while pull out sofa beds use the seat cushion and back as the mattress and they have a lot of support. It means your sofa is firm, but I prefer that so it works for me.

This is the one I decided to buy. Good price, good color and fabric (I got the dark grey), lots of storage underneath (also great for small apartments!).

I almost bought this one from World Market, and it's on sale right now!

I have never slept on a comfortable sofa bed. I hope you find one and share the name!

I have only slept on one of our three sofa beds, and it certainly isn't as comfortable as my Serta but it was sleepable. My son is married and out of the house and we bought a nice new mattress in his room, and the guest that most often stays here slept on that and asked if she could move back into the room with the sofa bed because she preferred that one. DW and I have slept on her mattress when we visit her, and it is much more like the sofa bed than the new mattress so I can see why she prefers the sofa bed. It also convinced her NOT to replace her mattress because she likes the way her old one sleeps.

We have a sofabed at our condo that is terrible. We ended up going to Big lots and buying rollaway beds to accommodate kids and extra adults. They are shockingly comfortable. I bought one last week and with tax was 136.00. If you sign up for their rewards card (not a credit card) you get 20 percent off coupons once in a while. My sister just bought a new sofa bed and I hoped it would be better because ours was pretty old. It is not. Just thought I would throw out this as an option. We love them for sleepovers ect.

We have a sofa bed and you can feel the springs :/ Where does one find comfortable mattresses for sofa beds. Is there such a thing?

We visit my daughter quite frequently in Virginia and she had an old queen sized mattress in our room which was ok to sleep on but not great. She ended up getting a sofa bed from American Leather with a gel mattress and honestly, it cost quite a bit it is really sturdy and really comfortable to sleep on. Google American Leather and find a retailer and go look at one and lay on it and you will be surprised

We have a futon in our office for guests
We also have two Aerobeds.

We have the fold up platforms for the the aerobed mattresses that gets them up off the floor and then stores away in a closet. Our guests when we have them prefer that to the sofa bed every time. I even paid for the upgraded sofa bed mattress when we bought this couch and I wouldn't sleep on it either. It's painful.

My son recently purchased the Ikea one listed above (glad you listed it as offhand I could not recall the name!). Also in dark grey. It also came in other colors and faux leather. I helped him put it together, which was fairly simple, as compared to some other Ikea items. You can view the assembly instructions online too. I then slept on it for two nights and was very comfortable, and I am over 6 feet tall and would never be confused for a lightweight!
