August 15, 2016: Wonder to Alaska!

Sorry, we messaged you a few times in the last few months and got no response, we needed your personal information to add you to the group. The main group is closed now, if we get more people there is always the possibility of starting a "pixie dust" group...
I'm so disappointed to hear this. I was on here in may actually looking for information. I believe it was you who had said to PM you with our info, but then told me I could Pm till I had ten posts on here. So if you were sending messages I wasn't getting them. Which is strange because I get emails as soon as someone posts to the thread.

If you were following this thread, we all chatted about who was in the group and the need for your information to confirm your FE spot starting a few months ago, I'm sorry you missed it...

Hi, just wanted to ask the regular cruisers on tipping. any advantage to prepay tipping versus paying on last day while clearing up the stateroom charges? Thanks in advance!
From disney site: Disney recommended gratuities are $4 per person (adult or child), per day, for the dining room server; $3 per person, per day, for the assistant server; $1 per person, per day, for the head server; and $4 per person, per day, for the room steward. All bar, pool deck and coffee bar drinks have a 15 percent gratuity added to the bill. Spa gratuities are not added and are left to the discretion of each passenger. It is suggested that cruisers tip a couple dollars for room service as it's delivered. Tips can either be prepaid up to three days prior to the start of your sailing or will be automatically charged to onboard accounts.

Hi again! Was researching on alcohol allowance in case anybody else was also wondering:

Are Guests allowed to bring alcoholic beverages on board the ship?

A. Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.

Guests wishing to consume wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle.

Please note:

  • Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.
  • Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.
  • Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.
  • Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

I'm not a regular, but I don't think there is a real advantage other than already having your gratuities paid for and not having them added to the rest of the charges you might have a the end of the cruise. I know there are some who have said they also like to tip extra on the side. Some like to take care of each charge that incurs soon after it's made. Others like to just have everything charged to the Credit Card they have on file. It's entirely up to you how you want to handle it.

We always pay our gratuities in advance just to help spread the cost out and not have a big bill at the end. It's really something that I would rather just build into the base cost of the cruise, rather than include it with the "extras" that I'm billed once I'm on board. Other people don't like to give Disney their money before they "have" to, but everyone is different!

I add up all the "extra" expenses (excursions, Palo, tipping, etc.) and put it on my shipboard account. That way I don't have to worry about it.

We just returned from our Alaskan cruise and I just wanted to let future cruisers know about the Best Sushi in Vancouver. Miku (mikurestaurant.com) is located right near Canada Place across the street from the cruise terminal. Their signature dish is the Salmon Oshi Sushi (pressed BC wild sockeye salmon, jalapeño, Miku sauce). It is heaven for your taste buds! Enjoy!

Thanks! Any other tips for us? How was your cruise?

Hello,
We are a new DCL family and have just figured out about the need to register for FE for the upcoming Alaska Cruise (15-22). We really want to participate and am wondering if there is a way we can? My email is Kathryn.cook@me.com

It looks like I can't send or receive pm's until I have 10 messages? I was told FE groups closed a couple of weeks before a cruise not 6 weeks! Also, I have searched for the Facebook group with no luck..please let me know the groups name....if there is one? Please email me as I won't receive a Pm! Thanks so much Kathryn

I went ahead and sent you an invite to the other group Kathryn! Welcome aboard!

We closed the FE list in June. I can post a list of latecomers if everyone wants, as a "pixie dust" group for those who wish to participate...

so through the Disney Cruise Wonder facebook page I learn that there is no pirate night, in place will be Frozen themed night......We've got a Frozen movie night coming up at home! Looks like they are phasing out pirate nights? Just a little disappointed and thankfully I haven't invested in Pirate costumes as I had a couple of items that I was looking to purchase.

I don't know about "phasing out" Pirate Night. Only certain Wonder & Magic cruises (I think Alaskan & Norwegian) have Frozen Night instead. Also if you were looking forward to fireworks, don't get your hopes up too high. Alaska sailings don't have them.

The pirate night never really fit in on the Alaska cruises. Since there are no fireworks allowed in Alaska, that takes away one of the favorite events of pirate night; and since the theme is basically the Pirates IN the Caribbean, it really works best for the warm weather cruises.
