Hi guys,
My husband surprised me with a trip to WDW this september for our 12th wedding anniversary. It's just going to be us two without the kids. We are staying at the Polynesian and have booked California Grill one night for our "anniversary" dinner. We also booked the Wild Africa Trek for the last day of our vacation as a special experience.

I, in turn, want to do something special to surprise my husband on this trip. I am looking for some romantic ideas. I don't have a lot left in our budget to spend on this so it needs to be affordable.

Any suggestions?

I'm following along! My husband and I are going on a belated Honeymoon the week after Thanksgiving. So far I am planning to do the MVMCP & the Wild Africa Trek. But I don't have it actually scheduled/reserved yet. We're also excited about the HDDR at Ft Wilderness for one of our dinners. We aren't really into upscale restaurants, so that is more exciting to us. :)

I don't really have any ideas. Let me say if he loves you enough to do something special like this it is not necessary. Just being able to spend time with you away from the kids will be gift enough.

Have you considered Ferrytale Dessert and Fireworks Cruise?
I will definitely check it out! Sounds really nice.

Oh Congrats, what a wonderful honeymoon destination. I have been to Disney during the holidays and it so pretty with all the decorations. The Wilderness Lodge is a great place to visit during the holidays. Beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby with tons of nooks and crannies around the resort where you can sit by the fire and relax. I always wanted to try HDDR but its not my husband's thing! My husband hates any interactive stuff. He is reserved and likes to keep to himself.

We love AK and love the safari so decided to book the Wild Africa Trek. I'll let you know who it works out for us but it looks amazing!

You sound like my husband! :rotfl:
I agree that spending time together is the most important thing but it would have been nice to do something special for him. Got a few ideas from on a different board though so looking into that.:thumbsup2

Ok guys, here are some of the ideas suggested to me and what I am leaning towards. I will share for anyone interested.

I checked out "Ludari's" suggestion for the Ferrytale Dessert and Firework cruise. Looks pretty nice but is a little pricey at $100 p.p.
I read a review on it here if anyone wants to check it out. This one is available on several nights during my stay so I could fit it in somewhere but the price is a little high for my budget. That would be $200 for the two of us and I have to contend with the Canadian Exchange.

I also checked out the Star Wars Galactic Dessert Party. My husband and I love Star Wars so I thought it might be cool to surprise him with this instead. This one is only $69 p.p. I read a review on it here. It is only available on 09/05 so would have to move my schedule around. Had planned a Magic Kingdom day here. And again the price is a little steep at $140 for the two of us.

Then, on another board, "lurkeyloo" suggested ordering a cake or a chocolate monorail for my dinner at the contemporary. She gave me this info: to order a cake for dinner at the Contemporary, call 407-824-2955. Numbers for all other WDW locations are here: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/by-location/
A mini cake that serves two would cost me around $35. The chocolate monorail would cost me $40.

I also got some cool ideas from "TinkLoverSam". He told me to check out this board:http://www.disboards.com/threads/contemporary-room-service.2659854/
I love the idea that I could order through room service at the Poly. I was thinking maybe getting the chocolate covered strawberries sent up to our room and bringing my own champagne bottle and glasses. I could get some fake rose petals and some LED tea lights to put around the bed.

Hey check out this cool gift idea I found on Pinterest. My husband might really like this:

I could fill it with stuff I know my husband would like: massage oil for "touch", some mini bottles of alcohol in "taste", a music CD in "sound", his favourite cologne in "smell" and some lingerie in "sight"

It depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, mini-golf, fishing, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, horse drawn tour of FWC, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour
eating: Formal GF 5* Chef's Table @ V&As

Some great stuff here!
Took your advise and just booked Raglan Road for dinner one night because my husband loves irish pubs, and I figure we could enjoy DTD afterwards.
As for the other stuff, my husband is into basketball but I don't think he wants to spend his vacation at any of those sports places. He hates shopping and dancing so that is definitely out! We did the formal thing at V&A 2 years ago, and it was amazing! Loved our experience there and the food was out of this world, but I think we are going to skip it this time around! We are doing California Grill instead.
Like the idea of the horse drawn carriage ride at FWC. Will look into that.
Speaking of a lake tours, it made me think, I read somewhere that you can rent a boat/speed racer at the Polynesian Resort. It might be something he would love and it could be a cool way to tour the resorts from the lake.

I'll vote for a night at Jellyrolls, or maybe the new magician bar at the Boardwalk (I forget its name).

I was curious so I googled and I believe you are talking about AbracaBar. Disney released pictures recently and it looks like a neat place! Hopefully there's some entertainment offered there as well. I like to having something to watch or listen to.

That's the one! I just saw an article about it yesterday. It looks pretty cool for an adult night out.

Great ideas here! DH and I will be going in Dec. We did book CG for one night...more for the ambiance of watching Wishes. The menu doesn't look too appealing IMO, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised!
I'm hoping one night he'll want to go to The Boardwalk, but I may steal some of the suggestions you've listed here ;)

I am going to second the Star Wars dessert party since you are both Star Wars fans. My DH and I are as well, and I am really, really debating the party for our trip in... oh my, exactly one month(!). Every review I read said that it is worth the money ... IF you're drinking. My dilemma is that my DH doesn't drink, so I'm torn, but I think it would be a really cool thing to do if you both love SW! :-) :darth: :chewy: I don't know if I would call it romantic, though...

I used the boards once to find and share a private Illuminations cruise with 8 of my new best friends from the DIS boards. I told DH over dinner that we would be seeing Iluminations from the water that night, and he was shocked and thrilled. Split among the other 4 couples it was affordable but YMMV.

I love it. I think I'll use this idea. Thanks! We will be celebrating our 36th Anniversary and my husband's 59th birthday when we are there in September!

Ya, its pretty expensive if you don't take advantage of the drinks. My husband is not big on desserts so I don't know if its worth it for me either. He will most probably eat one of the selections and do the drinks but not $69 worth. I think I will skip the dessert part since I can still enjoy the show/fireworks for free.

That sounds wonderful! That is so cool that you found other couple to split it with. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your 36th anniversary, wow! I know, right, such a cute gift idea. So hard to figure out what surprises men like. Best wishes to your husband for his b-day!

Thank you. It's exciting. Congrats on your upcoming 12th anniversary! We also are going to Cali Grill this year. Can't wait to try it. Our special "other meal" is Narcoossee's. The food is exceptional. We try to time it so we can watch the water electrical parade and Wishes. Another romantic option is a carriage ride at Port Orleans Riverside. We may try Characters in Flight at Disney Springs. We have tried other years and due to the wind, it was cancelled.
