We're cruising on Oasis in late November. It's a week long, eastern Caribbean cruise.
How formal are formal nights? I need to buy a dress anyway, so figured I might be able to get one that will work for formal nights as well.

you'll see a spectrum, from nicer sundresses to full-on evening gowns. i usually wear what i would wear to a summer evening black-tie-optional wedding; usually a knee-length or mid-calf length fancier dress, but not too crazy or blingy. i've also worn black dress pants and a blouse, like i'd wear to a work meeting. really, as long as you're not in jeans, you'll be fine (though i guarantee you you will see at least one person in jeans :) ).

Thanks so much! That's what I was hoping to hear.

For formal nights on Allure, I wore a sumner dress. It was something I wore to an outdoor casual wedding. My husband wore slacks and a jacket. No tie. You'll see everything.

Just to piggyback on the dress code question - would a sleeveless dress for a woman be acceptable? I have several maxi dresses that are sleeveless and halter style, but have read tank tops are not permitted.

Second question - what's the dress code for men in the Windjammer buffet? DH likes shorts, tank tops, and flip flops so would that be permitted in the buffet area at dinner time? He wouldn't wear it into the dining room or a specialty restaurant.

sure, sleeveless dresses are fine. i wear sundresses that just have a strap across the shoulder. a lot of people wear strapless for formal night.

have never eaten dinner in the buffet, so can't help you there. we keep meaning to try it for dinner but never make it. :)

I believe suggested dress at dinner in the Windjammer is the same as the rest of the day .... Must be wearing shoes, bottoms, and a top. (Meaning - no bathing suits only)

Sleeveless is fine for women in the MDR. The tank top rule is for men in the MDR and specialty restaurants

Tank tops are fine in the Windjammer any time of day.

Windjammer don't wear a bathing suit and you'll be just fine. I normally just throw a pair of gym shorts and a tee shirt over my dry bathing suit and I promise you I fit right in.

As far as formal night goes you'll see a huge variety in what people will be wearing. Some people are dressed ready to meet the queen, some are ready for a night at the club. My favorite was the table of Cowboys in their skin tight jeans and very large hats. It's the perfect night to people watch. Everyone is normally very pleasant on formal night so I'm mocking no one on their fashion choices. I just want to assure you there's no need to stress.

I haven't been on Oasis (yet) but have cruised recently on another RC ship and the above PPs are spot on.

Not just formal night but every night in the main dining room, you will see people in various types of dress including formal, semi-formal, resort casual/golf club look and a few in jeans & t-shirts. Never saw short shorts. I preferred to wear my little black formal dress & pumps every night for dinner but that was my personal choice and certainly not required. I never saw or overheard anyone be judgy (at least not loudly).

Windjammer is very casual. T and shorts covering up a bathing suit & you are good to go.

The last time our family cruised with Disney, we were seated at a table with a very pleasant family. They had a son who was about dd's age, we had a lot of similar interests. We got to talking about the 'dress up' night that was the following evening. As we all know, dress up night is certainly nothing huge and formal, but most people put on a bit dressier clothes. This poor other family told us they had nothing but tee shirts and shorts...they had no idea that they should have brought nicer clothing! I told them that they would see just about all types of dress at dinner that night and not to worry about it. Sadly, they weren't at dinner that evening. I guess they felt that they would be too underdressed!
