Just how hot is it there right now?

We were there the last week of June and it was HOT, much hotter than it was when we went the same time last year. The real feel temps were around 105 everyday with high humidity. We didn't do some things we had planned to do because of the heat. Thank goodness we go often, so we were okay missing out on some stuff. We still enjoy going in the summer and it won't deter us from traveling to Disney in the summer again. We took midday breaks everyday and enjoyed the pool.

We were there over the 4th of July and did not end up using a drop of sunblock even though we burn really easily - didn't come back with so much as a tan! It was just too hot to be out in the sun for any length of time..! We bopped from A/C to A/C as much as humanly possible and kept sucking on the camelbak full of ice water! :faint:

Might have been different than the forecast for you though - we didn't end up with much rain at all to cool things off and it didn't feel like there was much wind either. The "real feel" temp was ~108 and it never felt like it cooled off in the evenings (we were back in the room around 11-12 every night).

I have been home for two weeks now but just wanted to chime in because I was also there at the exact same time last year and while last year was hot, I came home saying yes of course it was hot but it didn't change our plans (it was mid 90's and humid but we did okay), this year it was high 90's and humid and ohh my gosh not to be TMI but I am not the kind of person who is typically sweaty and now looking at pics I can't believe how gross I look sometimes. We definitely found ourselves slowing down a bit, for example I remember we decided to get a Dole Whip and we ate them sitting at the little tables by the carpet ride. I think we sat at those tables for more than an hour just refreshing and regrouping. I also remember we got fish and chips one evening and went and ate them at the tables outside there. We ended up sitting there (we went inside and bought a few drinks during this time as well) right through Illuminations so that was probably 90 minutes or so. We definitely did not accomplish as much as we did the year prior but we were perfectly okay with slowing down and just relaxing whenever we needed to. If you are going to wear the baby I would definitely bring a few changes of shirts if you are planning on being out for a few hours at a time. I have never seen soo many shirts with backpack stains and I can only imagine similar would happen with a baby sling/carrier.

This year I came home a little bit unsure if I will ever go back in July again where as last year I thought no problem (obviously since I did go back the exact same time a year later :)!).

I was thinking no way would I wear a baby in this heat!!! too dangerous for the baby....

It's HOT! I live here. My husband is training for a half marathon and my husband got done around 9am and felt aweful. He said he has to get out earlier.

We went out to eat the other day for lunch. When we got home it felt like the sun was burning my shoulders just walking from the car to the house.

This afternoon, we have a FP+ for FEA. I made no other FP, because we'll do that, then leave. Maybe drop by Mexico to cool off, and TT showroom, walk through Mousegears on the way out, then walk to the car.

We are vacationing at Disney in August for our 25th wedding anniversary. It's going to be hot and humid.

We will be there the last week of August - I hope it isn't as hot then!

I find late August to be tolerable. July is the one month I haven't been!

We just got back today from our honeymoon week! We were there last year at this same time and don't remember it being this hot at all. We made the mistake one day of not taking an afternoon break and we paid for it the next day. From then on out we made sure to really rest up from about 2pm - 6pm.

We made sure to hit rope drop and early extra magic hours every day, take a mid-afternoon break to take a cool shower and a nap in the a/c before heading back to the park at night. Most afternoons or early evenings we got a pretty nasty thunderstorm but after it was over the evenings were somewhat pleasent.

We come to Disney every summer but after this trip I'm pretty sure we will be sticking to winter and early spring, thankfully it was an adult only trip and I didn't have to worry about the kids but the heat was just so overwhelming at times.
CONGRATS on your wedding:love2:! HOPE that you had a great time! We had to vacation for many years during August because of our sons sports schedules, but THANKFULLY we are done with that! :dance3:DH and I vacation in October for F&W and we vacation as a family in May(still tied to college schedules for now). Understand that many have to vacation during summer/school breaks just like we did for years, but it is VERY HOT! :scared1::eek:

We have been back for about a week. Being from the northeast, we usually find Florida heat and humidity in July not much worse than home. This year it was much worse. We hit the parks early, afternoons in the pool. Frequent breaks in a/c spaces and attractions/shops. One day I had a ride from Epcot and the monorail car I was in did not have a/c that was working. Thought I was going to lose my mind. Just scale back, take it easy.

We were there in August two years ago with a ten month old. The one thing I remember that really helped was so simple - we just took one of her washcloths to the parks with us. When I felt she needed to cool down, I would dip it into cool water and she would wear it on her head like a hat. It really helped! We'll be back next week for her 3rd trip and are already prepping for how hot it's going to be. I bought a stroller fan for this trip to keep her cool if she naps in the parks.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Yeah, looks like it will be miserably hot. This was the only time we could go since we're mainly tagging along with my husband for a conference he has down there.

I plan to hang out in the AC areas with the baby most of the day and avoid the heat as much as possible. I also heard the baby care center is nice. We do have a stroller fan and will be bringing that along with some wash clothes. I nurse so good idea about keeping me hydrated! Gatorade is a great idea! I have a baby carrier but I imagine it would be so hot to carry him!

Too, I asked my pediatrician if he had any tips. He actually said baby could have up to 8 oz of water a day (4 at most per feeding) if we noticed baby was overheating or dehydrated. Normally, no, you wouldn't give baby water, but if he's dehydrated, he said it's ok. I likely won't but good to know we can if needed. I'll likely just nurse him.

I also bought so misting fans to bring with us. I'll try to post an update when we return to let you know how we do!

Thanks!!

We were there a couple of summers ago in Aug and believe it or not, they were having a heat wave. In Aug. In FL. :faint:

My goodness was it hot. The heat indexes were in the 100's and the news was actually telling people to stay inside. We were at breakfast at the food court and one of the workers was saying that it was not good to be outside and that we should stay in. Ummmmm, we did not fly to FL to sit in a hotel room. We soldiered on, but man was it rough. I made sure to have us all drink tons of water and take breaks. We made the mistake of not taking a break one afternoon, just seemed like wasting time, and boy did we pay. We were beyond exhausted, just chewed up and spit out.

I guess it's just summer in FL, but the heat and humidity were relentless.

We went once with a baby, and the baby did get water. We rarely use coolers in the park, but with a baby+heat, a soft sided cooler is helpful.

Another thing the bay might enjoy is something like a cold teething ring.

Personally, I'd also take a little extra precaution to keep baby items sanitized. It has been too long for me to recall details, but we found special (steam) pouches that could be used in a microwave to sanitize items. You put the items in the pouch with a little water and the steam sanitized the items. It has been too long but back then, the food courts all had microwaves. I'm not sure about WDW, but some hotels allow guests to rnet microwaves.

My co-workers who work in the parking lots are having to bring extra shoes to change into on their breaks because the soles are melting on the asphalt.
WOW Disney will have to start reimbursing them for uniform shoes, if they don't already. I know that the cost of a pair of my shoes would be more than I'd make in a day.

You don't want your baby to get to the point that you have to give him water. That's dangerous and I'm surprised a doctor would mention water as an option. But then again, even most peds know very little about breastfeeding (unfortunately, they truly only spend a few hours on it in all of their many years of education). You will be absolutely fine nursing, just throw in 2 or 3 extra sessions during the hottest part of the day. And that will be easy because it will be so hot, you will HAVE to stop for breaks. Drink all the time, even when you aren't thirsty and have fun!!!

Fwiw, I've lived in Orlando forever and have nursed 4 kids (ok, currently on #4) through a total of 6 summers so far. It's entirely possible and safe and preferable to nurse without extra water for baby. Some of us keep mentioning the water thing because water is not for little babies, but most people don't realize it because most people don't nurse exclusively for a variety of reasons. Water takes up room that should be used to replace necessary calories and electrolytes with milk. :) Oh, and I don't baby wear in summer. Way too hot for me AND baby. But in a pinch for a few minutes, it could definitely work. Especially if you nurse while baby-wearing.

We're arriving August 8, road tripping from Wisconsin. Camping in our pup in Fort Wilderness! We've been having upper 80s/low 90s, with high humidity, resulting in heat indices in the low 100s. I've been telling myself I'm conditioning for the trip! And until yesterday, there was no ac in our car, and I work as a home health therapist, spending 2-4 hours a day driving! I ordered us Frogg Toggs, gonna order Pop Up Gizmos for the pup, and we still need to install ac in the pup. Also bringing Gatorade powder-in canisters, to make pitchers for the campsites, and packets for water bottles whIle in the parks.

We go to Orlando next week. I'll be traveling with a 5 month old. Eeek! Any tips? My twins are 7 - hoping they do well as also!
I am a native Floridian. This is the hottest summer I've ever experienced. I work in the parks. It isn't too bad up until about 4pm. If it rains and the sun comes out after, it will be miserable as the rain evaporates. You will sweat. Your body also won't cool itself like normal. With he high humidity, your sweat won't evaporate and you can easily overheat. My suggestion is to start and end early. Or take a break at the hottest part of the day. Animal Kingdom is the most humid but also has the most shade. Because of this, I'd say you should skip the hours of 4-6. If you are in any of the other parks, I'd skip the hours of 1-6. Drink lots and lots of water. Fun tip: ice water at Starbucks is free and they often can be found outside passing cups out.
