Ok guys I'm seriously thinking of taking a day off work on the day my ADRs open so I can get online and make my reservations at 11am... Am I being mental? Is this really necessary? Or a good idea?!

I did mine on the sly at work (shhh...), however, I was only making 3 and was done and dusted in minutes.

If you want to snatch 8am brekkie ressie at parks before they open, then it's an option

If you don't, you'll be perfectly fine waiting until you come home after work

For all you know, disney dining might have one of their glitches and be unavailable for hours on your adr day ;) so don't worry
If you can afford a day off, then why not, but if it means sacrifice or crossing your boss and colleagues, then don't

I just really want a Crystal palace breakfast for my little girl!

There is currently 8:00 to 8:20am tables at CRT for most dates in july (1 month and a half after the 180 mark at what qualifies as a busy period) so there's no reason to panic for that ADR.
It might be booked solid at 3 months out on busy times, but a few hours will be okay ;)

When is your 180?

Thank you I've had a look and you're right, it's not as bad as a lot of people make out. It's looking like my trickiest one is going to be Be our Guest Dinner, which is to be expected. My 180 is t until the beginning of May A long time yet! I'm just trying to think ahead and be organised as its our first family trip, and my little girls first ever visit to wdw!

May calls for november ADRs
If you're going thanksgiving week, then it might be a bit trickier for some restaurants, but still manageable
Remember that if you stay onsite, you can book the first 10 days of ADRs at your 180 mark, and that gives you a comfortable head start if your CP and BOG are towrds the end of your sray

We are there from the 5th-19th so expecting it's to be moderately/ pretty busy as I know it's never really quiet but thankfully we will be well gone by thanksgiving. We are on site at the Wilderness Lodge and we got our 14 days of free dining so that's why I was kinda thinking to take the day off as I've got 14 sit down meals to think about. But I think you're right I'm panicking a bit too much, once I've got the BOG the others shouldn't be too bad.

You'll only be able to book the first 10 days , then it will be one day after the other
So if your BOG is on day 11 or later, you won't be able to book it on your ADR opening day

Hey just another quick question, when I book my dining do I need to tell them I'm on the dining plan? Or do we just tell them at the time?

Tell them at the restaurant

You only need to mention dining plan for prepaid meals such as CRT, and the option will be displayed on the booking page

I wouldn't panic too much. I've always managed to get what we want even for Christmas Day and NYE. Good luck!

Don't panic - if you plan BoG well into your window you will be fine.

I just realised the other day I hadn't book our traditional lunch on our leaving day - I went on and could get a choice of times at all restaurants in MK this was nearly a month after our 180 day window opened.

The only issue you will have is if US free dining is announced before your window opens and covers your dates as that does make getting tables more tricky however I still wouldn't take the day off. i would do what i could at lunchtime (prioritise) and then finish off in the evening.

I had to get up to book mine at 3:00 am!! The things we do....

There are some places that can be hard to get. I managed to book Morimoto Asia but had to reorganize my schedule to do it as the day I wanted wasn't available (and I was online at 3:00 am PST exactly 180 days out!) Also, California Grill booked up quick but I got lucky. Be Our Guest is another.

Can you get online at work? If so, grab the ones you really want and the ones that are hard to get. The rest can wait until after work.

If you have the MDE app on your phone then it will really help with making your ADRs, especially at work :).

Don't be disheartened if for what ever reason the exact time you require isn't available. There is usually something around the time. Also I have found 72-24 hours out from the time of the ADR itself, lots start appearing as people start cancelling them to avoid the cancellation fee!!
