Disney Confessions

I have made my wife find the entrance music to Epcot around the fountain... by singing do do do doodee do do do daa da dooooooo.

The only place I regularly read and post is here. Like Sam said (I agree with SO MUCH of what you say!) :), I do read the restaurant reviews, and slobber over the food porn, whenever I have time. Anything else I figure I'll forget, or will be changed, by the time I make another visit. Or - it just tends to sadden me just a bit, 'cause I haven't been in so long, or don't know when i can go. Or - as others have said - it just vicariously stresses and tires me out. LOL

This is more of a DIS confession than a Disney confession....

Unless I'm actively planning a WDW trip, the other DISBoard forums stress me out.

I used to visit the Trip Planning forum, Resort forum, etc., even when I didn't have a trip on the horizon, just to stay "connected" to what's going on.

But these days the info is so detailed, and people seem so on-edge about getting everything just right, and getting the information so quickly, that it just stresses me out.

Is that weird?

(This is the part where you guys say "no".)

No . . . definitely not weird. I do jump into the planning forums esp the dining (raise your hand if you're like me & are really just there for the luscious food pics and the dining reviews! :P) and the resorts where I can. Llama's right (as always), there is a different vibe there. More tense & testy. I feel bad for newbies making their first few posts when a DIS vet jumps on them hard. Really no need to be harsh and vets should be more secure about themselves and their opinions. And every once in a while there is someone new who is just dog mad and who knows what. I try to just run fast the other way. Maybe because we have such a groovy, nice vibe here in our own little corner of the Boards, everything else "out there" seems so much colder? But no worries, Llama. Jes & I will hold your hands if you decide you want to venture out onto the Board! :hippie::-)
I 100% agree with you llama and Sam.
Before my first (and only) trip, I read the theme parks strategy, resorts and restaurant boards obsessively.
The issue I find, other than the snarkiness at times or those jumping on a newbie who has either clearly been given bad information before or has no idea and is desperately looking for help, but gets pounced on for being wrong, is that there is so much conflicting information, it makes your head spin.
It stresses me out.
However, with our trip coming up and me about to book a room, I need to go and have a read of a couple resort thread and I think the fast pass+ thread and magic bands thread as well as some restaurant threads just to refresh and get some more info.

Actually, you fine people may be able to tell me something in an easier way.
If I want to book ADRs and fast pass+ at the designated days out, do I need theme park tickets for my full stay to book FP+ for the full stay?
I'm trying to cheat the system of exchange rates and was thinking of just buying a 1 day pass each and then upgrading when we get there with cash at GS.
It's not really going to save us that much money ($50 for every $1000 exchanged) so not sure it's worth the hassle?

OK . . . I don't know this. I've either purchased a Magic Your Way Vacation Pkg for my stay or have just purchased a one day admission ticket. However, there is an incredible DIS'r & I think his name is @mesaboy2 ? He has the avatar of Max Headroom (EDITED to Add: think his avatar has changed up recently to Darth Vadar?) & has won numerous DIS accolades for his incredible FP thread, posts & updates. The man is a god. I don't know him but if anyone can answer your questions, he is it. If I have the wrong name or have spelled incorrectly, hopefully someone else can correct my post and point you in the right direction. He would be the go to for your questions. if you can PM him, and he has to the time to answer you, you will get the info you need. Godspeed, Jes!

Oh that's definitely the thread I intended to read! He won the most viewed thread of the year award in 2014 I think

You can book ADRs without tickets, but for FP+, you need a ticket for each day you will be booking FP+.
For example, when I was there in January, we were there for 8 days but only had 5 day tickets, so we could only book 5 days of FP+.
Unfortunately, if you want the FP+, you have to shell out the money before the trip :(

Thanks Sarah, I figured that would be the case.

My Disney confession is that I have already started planning our next trip.... which won't be until 2020. Now, that's probably not so bad except that I've already planned which restaurants so I'm ready when it is time to book ADRs. Yes, I am well aware some of the restaurants I've chosen may not even exist anymore by the time we actually go!

You might be able to do a little better with a Disney Vacation Account if your credit card company doesn't charge a fee for currency conversion. At the moment the account gives you a $20 gift card for every $1000 you spend on a vacation out of that account. I don't know the rules around it, but if you could transfer the amount of your vacation into the account and then use it to pay for the holiday pretty soon after you wouldn't be missing out on bank interest and would get the benefit of the $20 gift cards.

I'll have to have a look, but after booking accom, I doubt we will be needing $1,000 :-/

I assume you can use the fund to book your accommodation and tickets etc. Oh, or are you renting points? In that case it probably won't help you.

It's looking like I'll be renting points.
It's only slightly more (or maybe less? I'm a margarita down at this point and I've spent all afternoon researching accom in the other location we are visiting, I can't remember) so why stay mod when I can stay deluxe minus house keeping? Lo

Yeah I had looked into renting points for our last trip and it was going to work out about the same as staying in a moderate. We then changed our plans and made it a 3.5 week trip so had to switch to Pop Century, but for our next trip I'm going to rent points I think. I want to try out a deluxe!

Is that weird?
Another vote for "not weird". I like to post there to provide some experience, but the threads worth contributing to are few and far between. There are so many different ways to travel and plan, that it's hard to provide much more than "here's what works for us". Props to the folks at travel agencies that make that their living!

I like to plan extravagant Disney trips for my entire family- you know the kind that will only happen is you win mega millions in the Lottery? No cost is too high. The crazy extravagant suites at WDW and on the cruise lines, anything goes kind of trips.
