Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Oh no! They have went too far this time!!!

ROFL!!!!!! So true though.

Yeah see that's what makes me nervous about putting several requests. I put in close to the main building and first floor but I was thinking taking out the first floor part. I'd rather be close and on the second floor. Just wondering, how high is the flights of stairs in the AB buildings? Is it about the same hight as the floors in the values?

There's only one level of stairs to go up in the AB section, not very steep at all. But obviously it needs to be high enough to get you up to the second floor. :) There are three stories in the mansion buildings though. Make sure you tell them your order of preference.

We are booked in a preffered room. My TA put request for building 14 on initial reservation. When I do online check in I can choose top floor and corner room right? How many corner rooms are there? Will I possibly end up on ground floor if I put corner room? I would give up corner for top floor...but would be lovely to have both.

The online-checkin tickbox requests aren't especially useful (and they are still only requests), I'd suggest contacting them directly with your requests (in order of preference). I guess overall about 20% of AB rooms are on corners (remember some corners are not especially useful though, such as those next to the ice/vending area which would just look into a corridor).

Can someone tell me what the preferred rooms have a view of? We really want to stay in Alligator Bayou, and would love a water or "foresty" view, rather than a courtyard. I'm not sure what category to request to have the best chance of it being in the Aligator bayou section. Right now, we have a garden view booked.

You can make requests as early as you like (by phone), there's no need to wait for 60 days. At 60 days though you can do online checkin, which does give you a couple of tickboxes for requests, but nothing especially useful (basically just requests for specific floors or a corner room). You are correct that you don't need to request River View if that's what you've already paid for, so just request Alligator Bayou. All of the AB River View rooms are in pretty good locations, but it wouldn't hurt to ask for "an Alligator Bayou room, and fairly close to the main buildings if possible". See www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php for more info on making requests if you want to follow it up with a fax 3-5 days out.

Thank you, Andre! Great help, as usual!

All of the preferred rooms are in Alligator Bayou - in fact, booking preferred is the only way to insure getting in Alligator Bayou (well, that or having five people). I'm confused, though, if you booked garden view, you can't request a preferred room, since that's a different booking category (well, you can, but getting it would be an upgrade, so it's not something you're likely to get). If you want to be in Alligator Bayou, just request that.

When you book a king room does this mean you can end up anywhere at the resort. Can you book a preferred room King?
Thanks

A 'Preferred Location' booking will get you a standard (generally parking lot) or garden-style view in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27. These are all Alligator Bayou rooms, so no courtyards. There are a higher proportion of garden views (bayou, streams, woods, etc) as opposed to parking lot views. Unless you get upgraded you would not normally get a river view though. I would recommend requesting a non parking-lot view, but even if you get one they are still mostly very pleasant with some trees and vegetation between the rooms and the parking area.

King Bed rooms are a category to themselves and you can't specifically book any given view type. They are scattered all around the resort (except for the Royal Room buildings) and so you could get one in a preferred building, or a lovely river or pool view... or unfortunately possibly even a parking lot view on the far side of the resort. You can request any options that you wish and still remain within your booking category - but of course while they try their best, requests are not guaranteed.

Okay yet another question regarding room locations and distance. What garden view rooms are the closest to the main building? And if your request is for a close room are your chances greater to be in AB or MB? Is it just my perception or are even the closest non-preferred AB rooms closer than any of the MB room?

We are staying Feb 25th -Mar 4th in one of the Royal Guest rooms, Garden Room. Last year we stayed there too in the Partrerre Place bldg, bottom floor facing inwards towards the interior fountains. We really liked this location, but was wondering if there was anything else we should try to request. I think last year we asked for a corner room, which we got, just that it was an interior corner so we did not get the extra window. In end it we really enjoyed our room and resort in general, but wanted to know what made sense to ask for or should we just try to request the same setup and/or room we had last time.

Also when you call in how receptive are they to working with you and entering in requests. Do they let you prioritize your requests? Have never done this before and want to know how this is done.

It'd be kinda a tie between AB 16/17 and some of the closest rooms in the Magnolia Terrace mansion building, with the closest rooms in AB just getting the edge. Either way, the walk starts at around 230 yards. However access to the main South bus stop is much closer from the AB buildings, as you can take a shortcut beside the parking lot.

You can call and ask the call center staff to add requests for you, but it's really down to luck as to how responsive a cast member you happen to get - some are very good, others not so much. If you are especially worried though, send a fax 3-5 days before you arrive (which you can word exactly as you want, and you know the room allocation team at the resort will see).

Not sure if I can ask this here or not.....we are arriving next Thursday the 25th. Looking to order some water but GG has a $40 minimum. Any other suggestions that won't break the bank on just water?

YIPPEE just booked a quick 2 night trip(part of a college pick up squeezing it in) And ended up with a Royal room(all that was available with the spring savings discount. So I am off to read everything about the resort. Last year I had a one night in Orlando and I popped over to the French quarter and thought it was cute. Don't know what to expect at Riverside. Any good tips for girls only trip? We will have only one park day as I have to get back to work. But am really excited to be squeezing this in.

I never order water. For my room I use a Brita personal water bottle. At food court even if you don't have a resort mug, there's a water tab in the pop machine. It's filtered. You can either fill your own water bottle or ask for a cup at cashier.
In the parks any quick service will give you free cups of ice water. Again, it's filtered.
If you want to buy bottles, they sell bottled water in the resort store. Either case or gallon jug.

I don't know if you'll have time, but a couple of things we enjoy are the boat to DTD, and Bob Jacksons show in the evening, in River Roost.
I'd request Oak Manor near foot bridge. Nice location. You can fax room assignors 4 days before arrival.

Our last trip, I ordered a case of water from Costco (and I'm not a member) and had it shipped down to POR in time for our trip. This trip, we may try Amazon.

You can buy a case of water from the hotel gift stores for about $6.50 for 24 x small bottles of Dasani:

However the rooms are fitted with special devices called 'faucets' or 'taps' which seem to work fine for us, as do the free chilled water dispensers in the food court. :)

And if you rub the faucet in a Royal Room you get three wishes, right?

Andre & Ensusieasm....You two are hilarious.....yes I've heard of faucets..lol!! Unfortunately Florida water is just nasty to my family. But thank you for the info on the water available in the gift store.
