First time to DLP, going solo in August - help?

Hi Paris DISers —

I will have a few days solo in Paris before meeting up with my husband there in August. I'd like to use my time to visit DLP, since DH is only moderately interested in Disney parks and I'm sure he'd rather spend our "together time" in Paris exploring the city itself. (And frankly, I'm a huge Paris fan, and I'd like to maximize my time in the city — one of the rare cases when Disney is not my top priority!)

These are the dates I am looking at: Tuesday, Aug 23 - Friday Aug 26th. (I'd probably visit the parks Tues, Wed, Thus — Friday maybe not, we'll see.)

So my first question is: I am guessing this is a VERY busy time of the year to see DLP. Do think I'm ok going on weekdays, will that help? or will the crowds be just miserable?

I am thinking of staying at Ibis - Val D'Europe, as the Disneyland hotel prices seem really high (even as a WDW regular, they seem really high) and since I'm going solo that's a LOT of $$ for one person. I've read many good reviews, but my questions about staying at Ibis are:

- Does it feel SAFE? I'm a petite woman in my early 30's and I really don't want to be worrying about my safety going to/from the hotel, train, etc. I've traveled solo before, and I've traveled internationally before, but never solo AND internationally at the same time. I have some nerves about this.

- Since it seems like I will be going during busy season, will I be at a huge disadvantage without early EMH? It would be much more expensive to stay on site, but this will probably be my only trip to DLP in the next 5+ years (maybe longer) so I want to have a good time and feel comfortable.

And my final question (for now) is about Inventions character dining — as a solo adult, will I feel out of place? Is it worth the $$ and is the food quite tasty? I do love meeting characters, and I usually try to book at least one character dining experience per Disney trip, but I'm just curious about the attitude toward adults meeting characters in general (with no kids) at DLP, and at this meal in particular?

THANK YOU for any and all advice you can provide! I'm very excited to have the opportunity to make this trip happen, but the newness of it (and the fact that my French is very poor, AND I will be hugely jet lagged upon arrival) is giving me some anxiety about the logistics. xx

without young children, no, you will be fine staying offsite without EMH - however, as you're intending visiting the parks for 3 days at least, you'd be just as cheap getting a fantasy annual pass compared with normal park tickets, and this will give you access to EMH even when staying offsite.

the Ibis at Val d'europe is in a very safe place, literally up the stairs from the train platform at val d'europe train station, across a little pedestrian square, and the hotel entrance is right there. We stayed next door at the Ibis budget (when it was an Etap) and I loved the location (I was there on my own with my little girl). So easy and quick to and from the parks.
Definitely still choose weekdays, even in school holidays, to visit the DLP parks. With 3 or 4 days, and considering how long the park hours are in August (ie until 11.30pm every night) you'll be able to do loads going solo, even in August.
Go for it!!

Wow, thank you for pointing this out to me!!! That's huge!! :D

I visited about the same time last year (also solo) and stayed at the Ibis budget (next door to the Ibis). I'd agree with the other poster in saying that it's very safe, you're as close to the train station as you can get at the Ibis and it's only one stop to DLP. It will be very crowded but just get there early and take advantage of single rider lines where you can! I had a brilliant time even with all the crowds!

The trip report in my signature is on that solo trip :)

hi @snowybelle
Just a point about the onsite prices which you might not realise. The prices on the American Disneyland Paris website are far more expensive than the European websites.

Take a look at
www.disneylandparis.co.uk
www.disneylandparis.ie
www.disneylandparis.fr
www.disneylandparis.de
www.disneylandparis.it
www.disneylandparis.be
www.disneylandparis.nl

Also the onsite prices are a package price, it includes hotel room, breakfast and park tickets. The park tickets cover both your arrival day and your departure day. You also get access to the early opening and other perks like the shopping service.

I am in a similar boat this summer. I'll be in Spain doing the Camino de Santiago, and I'll be flying in and out of Paris, so I'll be spending some time in Paris and then DLP. My biggest thing making me think I should stay on site, is the purchases.... I like to shop at WDW and DL, and I'll likely shop SOME at least while I'm there. This way I don't have to take any purchases on the train etc. :)

August is quite quiet at DLP as the locals with annual pass tend to be away on holiday

August may also be busy because of families planning a trip there… do not forget there are so many hotels around that the parks are quite full when all seven Disney hotels are full, not withstanding outside guests…

What are your dates? Any chance we would overlap? I would stay on site if I had a roomie to split costs with. I just cannot imagine paying Disney hotel prices when I'm solo. (Says this person who will be staying solo at Animal Kingdom Lodge this fall... but those are DVC points, so... ;))

Yes but the majority if the traffic in the parks is local annual pass people.

Trust me it is quiet in August lines are half what they are in July we go every weekend.

As someone who lives within walking distance to the parks we are going to have to agree to disagree here

August is far busier than July as every European country is on holiday - The peak period at DLP is from 15/7-15/8 covering the 2 public holidays - 14th July and the 15th August the Assomption.

The Parisians no longer leave for all of August - that went when the 35h week and extra days off came into force. It's very rare to meet anyone who now has a month off

Saying all that by the end of August you will have less people and still have the long hours :thumbsup2

I disagree, the parks were crazy busy when I was there last August and I was there at the end. It was so busy even Nautillus had a 20 minute wait and almost every other ride was over 45 minutes.

Not sure at this point (depends on flight prices from Canada... yucky!) Hoping for around Aug 12-16ish. :) But this morning I priced it all out again, and I might just end up at the Ibis. Those Disney prices for their "values" are more like WDW "Deluxe" rates!

remember though, the DLP value prices include park tickets and breakfast, unlike the WDW hotel rates.

the UK site has the same deal, and with the exchange rate is a little cheaper than even the .ie site, at £840 for those dates, including 30% off and park tickets and free half board meal plan.

I tried the UK rates, I may play with a few other sites too. I've been playing mostly with Canada/US/UK. The Euro is quite a bit more when switched into Canadian. :( Our $$ is not doing so well right now.

you would certainly be cheaper staying offsite at those prices DisneyFreak06, offsite but nearby hotel shouldn't be more than around £250 for 4 nights, fantasy annual pass another £140, and the equivalent of the included meal plan (ie one table/buffet service meal and one drink/snack combo) £100 = £490 (and you can do it cheaper than that with your food choices).

Oh, I'm not a foodie.... I can eat cheaply. LOL Especially after living so cheaply for a month, I'll likely not be feeling like eating big meals either. At this point, I was thinking about getting an AP as well. The Fantasy pass should be fine for me.

Around the resort area itself, I would say yes. Although I wasn't on a solo trip last time I did end up going between hotel and park solo quite a bit and never once felt unsafe. Security outside the park has been upped for obvious reasons and there always seemed to be CM's nearby. I think the fact that the parks are all so close to the hotels helps as well as the hotels were only about 5 minutes away on the buses
