More people driving due to low fuel prices?

We drive from Ohio 15 hours 2 days down and 1 back home. As a group of three we save a lot. My car gets 30 mpg and the savings on airfare and rental car means more money for Mickey stuff and better food for all.

I've thought about it and there is a chance that we might drive if we end up taking a family trip in the fall, but we pull the kids from school and don't have unlimited vacation time so that's a big consideration. I think the only way it would really work out is if we tagged it onto a holiday weekend and used that for driving time.

I have driven it before, but DH is very resistant to driving. We are waiting to see how much airfare is for our Oct trip. If it's on the high end, we will drive.

We have just driven 1800 miles from N. Mn. to phoenix, Az. Another 1800 miles back next week. We enjoyed the drive, both of us driving, and it took 2 1/2 days. I haven't figured up the gas cost yet, but it was not that much. We have a trip to WDW scheduled November and are seriously thinking about driving this time. We always fly, but may make it a trip with stops to visit relatives in Tennessee. Just not sure yet if the savings is worth the time spent driving. Still in the wait and see mode, so these comments are very helpful! I guess if we have driving this far to Arizona, a trip to WDW wouldn't be that much more.:)

We predominately drive. DH likes road trips, I am neutral. We love having the car. It's a pretty easy trip from Houston (1,000 miles). DH and I also have flexible jobs with plenty of vacation/comp time to be earned.
We are going March 12 for our Spring Break. I had wanted to fly for that trip but plane tickets were too high ($1200+) compared to what it'll cost us to drive (I estimate with meals, gas and hotel to be less than $500).

I'm tempted to drive. We usually do, since as a family of 6 from Ontario, flights can be awfully expensive.
But, our next trip, my husband is staying home. The kids and I are being joined by my mom, sister and 5 nieces and nephews. 12 people means 2 vehicles, but only 3 drivers. I'm not willing to do 23+ hours of driving without another adult to switch off with.
I considered doing the auto train, but it's still 8 hours drive to there, and then the cost is the same as flying from Buffalo. So, looks like drive 4 hours to BUF and fly from there.

I would work out How much it would Cost to Overnight at a Motel .

Then the 3 rd driver could share the 2nd days driving between Both cars . Say after 4 hrs driving .

Stopping at a pre set rest area.

Driver A & Driver B in one car on day one Driver C on his /her own for full day one

Driver A on his / her own on Day 2 while driver B & C drive together in 2nd car

You can make adjustments to drivers at pre arranged Pit Stops.

Think about it and Enjoy your vacation anyway...... have fun

We are the opposite of most people. We normally drive when the gas prices were higher because to fly it was even more outrageous! Over $2000 to fly no way! But this time we were able to get flights for just over $1000 or all 5 of us. I am excited that this time I am going to be able to land in Florida less than 6 hours after we walk onto our first plane! Much better than a 1500+ mile 24 plus hour drive down with 3 kids! Then have to do it all again at the end of the week when everyone is crabby. My kids are great car travelers but everyone is excited about their first plane ride.
