Just got back from a return visit to Foscue Creek Campground in Demopolis, AL. This was a spring trip, so the river was up higher and gave some different views of things. Also, SouthAlabama5er came up and stayed with us as well so a mini-Dismeet to boot.
Had site 51 again and Randy had site 50 just behind me. That's Randy in the "can't miss me" colored shirt in the background
The river was up much higher this time than on my last posting from Foscue from the summer of 2015
The campground has areas for camping, but also has special set aside areas for families to picnic. This picture is looking back up one of the lanes. There are about 10 picnic sites with tables and grill on each side of the road. The Spanish moss really adds character.
This is looking at one of the Corps of Engineers offices. You can see by the bench the river is up.
Now, on this trip we got a special treat for the kids and for me. I was able to pull some favors and secured a visit to the lock and dam located on the site. There was a barge coming in from downstream.
This lock is 300 feet long and 100 foot wide
He docked in, but was too long so he had to disconnect and pull along side, then the gates behind him were closed.
They opened the valves and created some nice whirlpools
and in just a few minutes, the 300+ foot long petroleum barge was raised up to eye level.
and here is a picture of the falls up close created by the dam which makes up Demopolis Lake
Another great stay. Staff was great as always.
