"First Of All, How Dare You" A November 2015 TR! **New TR Link!**

Day 2, Part 4 - You Broke Your Drink

At some point, we figured it might be a good idea to check in, even if we were early. We headed to do so about fifteen minutes prior to our actual reservation time, and received our beeper.

076_zpscannmmka.jpg

We chilled some more, and before too long, the beeper went a-buzzing, and it was time to get food!

077_zps1caehuwl.jpg

Whispering Canyon Cafe, three years in the making!

I've mentioned this in previous trip reports/pre trip reports, but for those of you just joining in, back during our very first trip, in November 2012, we had made plans to eat at WCC. That was putting us at one extra meal reservation to pay out of pocket, as we had the dining plan.

Then, they pulled the skillet off the menu, and we decided to pass it up.

This time around, I was really excited to finally try it though.

We started off with drinks, and Amber got the bottomless milkshake.

078_zpsvahgic1y.jpg

For our food order, we of course got the skillet!

079_zpsbhpui9dc.jpg

It was delicious, and we were a perfect match to share it! Amber's not a fan of ribs, or sausage, but I love both, so I mostly ate those. She does love pulled pork though, which I can enjoy but isn't my favorite, and she liked the chicken as well. We both had some of the mashed potatoes, which were really tasty (although I typically don't like bits of skin in my mashed potatoes).

My biggest surprise (pleasant surprise) of the meal was the cornbread.

I'd tried cornbread before, at Amber's Grandma. I had not liked it.

I decided to give it another try this time though, and I'm glad I did, because it is soooo good. I could have eaten it all by myself. But there was so much food that obviously, I could not.

I did also have a pretty decent amount of drink to wash it all down with.

080_zps4y4skdpn.jpg

Of course, I was first given a regular sized drink of my Disney love, pomegranate lemonade.

I was so thirsty and happy to be reunited with it, I drained it all before the waiter came back to take our food order. He noted that my drink seemed to be broken.

And then he brought me a refill.

081_zpslsunyud2.jpg

Which I feel kinda badly over, because at that point I could hardly make a dent in it.

We were plenty stuffed with our meal, so we skipped on dessert, and were soon back on our way out.

We went to see if there was a bus running, seeing as we figured the resort can't purely rely on boat transportation for when the weather isn't good, but I guess seeing as it was really nice out, they didn't have buses at that time.

So we made our way back around the resort.

082_zpspgkfyiyr.jpg

And headed back to the Magic Kingdom by boat.

083_zpsuwisgpji.jpg

We were back in no time, and ready for more adventures!

084_zpsbg3ndb7d.jpg

Up and around the castle we went.

085_zps1vpcu3s2.jpg

To use our very first FastPass+ of the trip.

086_zpsrf5kywk9.jpg

That's right. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Otherwise known as my wife's second favorite ride.

Once we were done being blown, bounced and such, we made our way to another favorite.

087_zpszntukrdx.jpg

Mickey's PhilharMagic!

I was so distraught when it was down in September, and so this was a very happy reunion! I just love this show so much.

We didn't have much time to waste past that though, as we headed over to our second FastPass+, this time for a slightly more in demand attraction.

088_zpsdhw6gpx7.jpg

Seven Dwarves Mine Train it was!

089_zpszzb9ehvq.jpeg

090_zpsiliuqlsm.jpeg

091_zpsuidyipcw.jpg

This was our third try of this ride - we'd done it twice in September.

Giving it another try reconfirmed previous opinions.

It's a very smooth ride. It is aesthetically very pleasing, very well done. It's a fun ride.

It's so not worth the standby wait. At least, not for us.

I would definitely see it being more so for family with younger children though, who love Barnstormer but are still a little uneasy at the thought of bigger coasters like Big Thunder. It's a great in between.

Our next plans would take us to a different land, so we started making our way there, soon noting the change of landscape.

092_zpsadtsqkof.jpg

And the crowds.

093_zpslk87yaad.jpg

We were hoping to partake in a bit of dancing, but there would be no dance party until later that evening, so we passed it by.

094_zps1d2yx1cq.jpg

And we made our way to another couple of favorites of ours.

095_zpstgg1i4ic.jpg

Carousel of Progress!

Followed by...

096_zpsyiptutdm.jpg

The PeopleMover!

097_zpsywqfwzhb.jpg

098_zpsnxah0r7u.jpg

I'm not gonna lie. Those are probably my two favorite attractions in Tomorrowland. Although, I am also rather partial to Buzz Lightyear. The more I think about the logistics of Space Mountain though, the more terrified of it I get. I can no longer ride it without being completely hunched over.

Which, you know, is great, considering the fact that it was our next FastPass+ of the day.

What will I not do for my wife.

It has been nearly a month since I updated this, and I have no other excuse than the fact that it's been the holidays - which, I do hope you all had a great Christmas/Hannukah/whatever it may be that you celebrate, and a happy New Year!

This year was definitely different too, being moved out, so normally I would have had a bit more ease to go about my daily routine, but not this time. Any time off I had, we spent it all over at my parents' place, and laptops were pretty much left out of the party time.

Winter is also the busiest season of the year at work, so that hasn't helped either.

But now it's time to get back on track, and to make up for how terrible I've been at updating, I have a treat for you all! (Which will be followed by two actual updates).

Amber has been working on putting together a trip video, and yesterday, she completed it!

So here it is, for anyone that may want to watch it!

I am really enjoying your report, and I LOVE your video! Thanks for sharing, and please keep writing. :)

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you're enjoying it all, and I will definitely let Amber know for the video :)

Fabulous video! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks! :) Amber did a pretty good job on it, I probably would have given up halfway through!

Day 2, Part 5 - Oh Right, There's A Marathon...

It's probably a good thing that the ride photo on Space Mountain happens before the ride actually starts. If it happened in the middle of it, I guarantee you you'd never see my face on it - just the top of my head.

101_zps1fp5fhns.jpeg

On the plus side, if there were ever such an accident like a bar falling as you zoom past it, I'd be scalped rather than beheaded. Small victories?

(Yes, I'm sure they have sensors and all. I'm still terrified of it for the rest of my life)

102_zps1nw7bkuk.jpg

With our third FastPass+ of the day used up, we figured we'd try and get a fourth one. Spoiler alert, this was one of the only times during the whole trip we were able to do so.

After securing said FP, we tried to find something with a short wait to do, and headed to another favorite - The Laugh Floor!

103_zpszvzqxvrt.jpg

Ah, laughter.

In all seriousness, we really do enjoy the Laugh Floor a lot, and it's definitely a great place to rest your feet and cool down for a few minutes. Tomorrowland is a great place for that, now that I think about it.

After exiting Monstropolis, we made our way across the park to catch our next ride. In other news, we continue to be terrible with that, apparently.

104_zps4zuctvxm.jpg

We still had a bit of time to kill, and Amber suggested we check out the Emporium, but I had a better idea, so we headed into Liberty Square.

105_zpsrwbghctj.jpg

My silly, Haunted Mansion wife had forgotten there was such a shop to explore as Memento Mori! To be fair, it was actually the first time we were able to set foot in it. It was pretty cool, and as you'd expect, full of Haunted Mansion merchandise.

We didn't get anything, although Amber had a brief moment of hope as she spotted the Mansion Maid shirt, only to find they only had medium and higher available in sizes. We stopped in whenever we passed it for the rest of the trip to see if they had received new stock, but unfortunately, no luck on that front. Maybe next year.

We got over it quickly and made our way to our FastPass+ selection of the hour - the Haunted Mansion, of course.

106_zps235nhatb.jpg

We did not join the nine hundred and ninety nine happy haunts, but we had a great time nonetheless.

At that point, we were getting close to the time we'd need to head out of the park. The family was about to arrive into Orlando at that point, and we were supposed to join them for birthday cake that evening, before bringing the boys back to our room for the night.

So we picked a last activity to do, which involved snatching a fifth (gasp!) FastPass+, and zoomed back across the park - again.

107_zpsh9ee9vrx.jpg

Tomorrowland! Long time no see! (NOT)

108_zpsd7fjxtux.jpg

We had a very important mission to undertake, so we joined Buzz to save the galaxy.

And I beat Amber.

109_zpssksq6dnp.jpg

Honestly, I don't even know what I hit. But it gave me big points, guys. Big points. I rarely break 100K on this game.

110_zpsjnx2ots4.jpeg

With that, our first Magic Kingdom day ended. It was pretty successful, right about what we had planned on doing. We did skip out on meeting Mickey, which is a bit of a blasphemy, but his wait was quite long and we were already running a bit late, so we headed back to the resort.

Once we arrived back at the resort, we messaged the family to find out what they were up to. They were about to head out to dinner, so they invited us to join them, but we passed up as their plan involved going to a Chinese buffet. We both enjoy Chinese food, but Amber doesn't like the variety they serve at buffets, and she really doesn't eat enough to justify the cost of it, so we decided to stick with the food court offerings.

112_zpsnws1bih1.jpg

Amber got the kids' spaghetti and meatball, which she was happy with. There is no picture of my food, but I'm pretty sure I just had a kid's meal of mac and cheese. Honestly, after this trip, I don't think there'll be any going back from having kids' meals, except at some of our favorite places where we just can't pass up certain options.

We then made our way back to our room to chillax while waiting for someone to come and pick us up. At which time, we found this little surprise waiting for us!

113_zpsrsrwmfst.jpg

It was definitely unexpected, seeing as we did read that Mousekeepers were no longer leaving out towel animals, and were actually not supposed to. As you can see, he was kind of hidden away. We were definitely glad to find it there.

And of course, bear placement was flawless as usual.

114_zpsbhrey7gf.jpg

Along the course of the evening, it was established that birthday cake was being postponed to the next day, because there was a rainstorm coming - it was very windy out as it was - so nobody really felt comfortable with the idea of having to be back on the road later that evening. They said they'd be on their way soon to drop off the boys though, so we chilled for a few more minutes before making our way to the parking lot so we could wait for them. It ended up taking a lot of them, because we had forgotten about the marathon, and Osceola was blocked off, meaning they had to take a ridiculously long detour. Oops.

Thankfully, aside from the wind, it wasn't really raining as we waited outside.

111_zps4wum1ycc.jpg

They did eventually make it, and we introduced the boys to their first little bit of Disney feel. It was getting pretty late though, so we all just ended up heading back to our room, putting Disney Jr on and going to bed.

So excited to keep following your trip! Amber's kids meal looks delicious... Did restaurants ever give you any grief about ordering kids' meals? I remember one trip desperately wanting a PB&j at CHH (it had been a long hot day and my tummy was upset... what can I say?) but I was too frightened to order from the kids menu since I'm... well, not a kid!

Love the towel animal! Did you end up sharing your room with any family?

Ok, no idea how I didn't see this start before - but I am here now!

So glad to hear that everyone got along and no family drama during the trip!

Glad the passport issue wasn't really an issue. I actually hadn't know that rule and it bit me one time I was to fly to Switzerland (my passport was only good for another 2 months - had to get an emergency new one)

Bummer that still didn't love the All Star Music - but at least now you know, just not the best for you

Love the video! Especially the Beverly part and with the fireworks/castle lighting

Great start with all those rides on Splash and Big Thunder!

Aw man, kinda wish you got the nutella waffle. The only thing I've had from Sleepy Hallow is the spicy chickey waffle thing - but that was pretty good so I am sure the other waffle options would also be excellent!

That was nice of the CM to take the picture of you both together rubbing Humphrey's nose. Side note: excellent use of the word "Whilst"

Lunch at WCC looks awesome! Another place we need to eat at some point

I hear you about Space Mountain - and if you ever watch video of it with the lights on it is like 10 times scarier seeing how all that steel is intertwined there

Congrats on that score on Buzz!

That kids spaghetti and meatball with breadstick looks pretty good. Those kids meals really are pretty decent value

Yaaay, I'm glad you're enjoying it ^^

Honestly, we had kids' meals a lot this trip. I didn't use to really want to go for those, I thought they would be too small in portion sizes, but with the budgeting this trip we figured we might as well try, and honestly, it's a perfectly decent amount of food. We never had any issues ordering kids' meals, I think they see it a lot. Besides, if it makes you anxious, just tell yourself - who's to say you don't have a kid? Maybe you're getting them food. We've never tried it at table services, and I think I've heard before you can't do it at Via Napoli, but Quick Service places will let you order whatever you want.

It was a really cute surprise :) And that night we did have the boys sleep over, but that was the only time. We were supposed to share more, but we ended up just always having it to ourselves

Glad to see you're joining in! :) At least I'm slow enough with updates that it's not too much catching up required :P

Well, mostly no family drama ;) We survived the trip, so that's really what matters most!

It's a good thing the passport requirements between Canada and the States is pretty lenient (they never even really stamp our passports) cause otherwise that could have been a problem. Then again, I have to reconfirm at least a few times a week to people that we recommend their passport be valid for 6 months if they're traveling, so I'm aware of the rule XD I just knew it shouldn't be a problem with just going to the States. Those kiosks are just not rigged with that knowledge I guess.

Yep, pretty much. I mean, if we paid for preferred, I'm sure we'd be fine there. Otherwise, the walk to any room is just always pretty ridiculous.

Amber did do a great job on that video! Hopefully now it'll become a habit for all our Disney trips. We'll need to remember to be good at video-ing. It was easy this time with all the people. It's a bit trickier when it's just the two of us.

Straight to Frontierland is always our best plan of attack! It hasn't failed us yet, though I guess we'll have to see how it works at Christmas!

Unfortunately, Amber does not like nutella, or the combination of bananas and chocolate for that matter. That waffle was still pretty tasty.

Funny thing - a family stopped by when that CM was taking our picture, kinda expecting to jump in once he was done with us, but then he just walked away and they were like, well then. We did then take their picture. Also, I'm glad my English usage is up to par :P

WCC is delicious. That sausage is sooo good. Honestly, the whole of it was delicious. I definitely want to go back.

Oh good lord I can never watch that video, or there's no way Amber will ever get me on it again. And I used to enjoy it, too.

Thanks! Still no clue how I managed it, but I can still brag about it!

Honestly, in some places I don't think we're ever going back to regular meals. The portions are good rather than being too big, and you get two sides plus a small drink. And it's cheap enough that if you're like, you know what, I want a grown up dessert (like churritos at the Cantina in Mexico), you don't have to feel bad about it because it's still cheaper than getting an adult meal plus a dessert.

I'm a fan of getting kids QS meals too! We did that a couple times on our trip.

I read some of your previous trip reports(working on reading them all) and am very excited to follow along with this one! :-) I've decided to stop being a silent reader :P

I'm super excited to find your TR. I've seen the other one that was with a group of your girl friends. Loved it!

BTW, I'm a fellow Canuck.

joining .......

I'm a fan of getting kids QS meals too! We did that a couple times on our trip.

Some of them are just really well sized and satisfying! Honestly, it'd a waste to spend the extra money for food that'll probably end up in the trash anyway.

Oooh welcome back, then! I'm glad you decided to comment, we're always so glad to meet more people! pixiedust:

Yay for Canuck friends! Although, I am sad to meet another person who is then also victim of the terrible Canadian dollar right now.

I'm really glad to have you join along! Hopefully you'll enjoy this TR as well, although I know I'm being pretty bad at updating it. Amber needs to step in stat.

Definitely following along; I love your and Amber's trip reports!

Real Life Update #1

Before I move on to a much overdue couple of updates, I figured I might do a bit of a life update!

A few things have happened since I last posted.

First, we have decided to cancel our Christmas 2016 WDW trip. It's very saddening to us, because I don't know when we'll have another opportunity to visit Disney over New Years', but we'll make it happen at some point! It was just starting to get too much, really. With the Canadian dollar being what it is, and price increases all over the place, we couldn't justify the expense on top of all our other financial responsibilities.

We'll be spending Christmas in Michigan instead, which the family is excited about, so there's at least that, and we'll also be able to see Veronica and Merranda and Traci since they'll also be home for Christmas. Silver linings!

We're hoping to be able to fit in a trip in 2017, so there's that to look forward to as well! No matter what, we'll find our way back somehow.

In other news, we have a new baby!

001_zpsfqlhyoic.jpg

002_zpsyjhekhl1.jpg

Her name is Princess Kiara. We typically call her Princess, Kiara, or Butt Munch.

She quite literally ran into our lives. Ten days ago, I was working until 6 and Amber was home alone. As I got to the subway station by home, I received a text and a picture.

003_zps2d1zy2ik.png

When I got home, I did gather her up in my arms and go through the building, knocking on doors, to see if she belonged to anyone. As Amber had found her in the hallway, it seemed unlikely she'd come from outside. Most people, however, did not answer their door, so we put up a sign by the mailboxes, saying we would keep her until Sunday, at which point we would have to bring her to the SPCA.

Nobody came to claim her - but she claimed us.

She is about six months, so still a baby, and she's a little ball of energy. She is, however, so very sweet. She sleeps with us every night, is practically always in the same room as we are, and she's very loving. She'll snuggle with us and purr like a machine. Obviously, she's a bit rambunctious, as kittens are, but she has to destroy anything so we're good.

I'm already dreading leaving her behind when we go on vacation next, and believe me, I've looked up the process of bringing a cat in the States, but we've established that putting her on a plane and taking her to a strange house in which lives a non too quiet dog would probably be more destabilizing than us not being around for a week.

Day 3, Part 1 - Welcome To The Magic

We woke up early on the morning that was to be the first 'official' day of the trip!

Well, Amber and I did. Ramsey also didn't have too much trouble getting up, but Boston is not one for early morning, so getting him out of bed was a tad trickier. Of course, the fact that he was getting up for Disney, not school, helped!

I got dressed, we fed the boys poptarts, and I left Amber with the kids to go and check us out while I made my way over to the All-Star Sports to check us in!

001_zpswly8rqtf.jpg

002_zps6wehvjjl.jpg

003_zpsewyxwfvv.jpg

It was a pretty quick walk, and I was hopeful to have us checked in before the family arrived so that I could then assist them with the process. We'd told them to arrive by 7:15 - 7:30, so that left me a bit of time as I hopped into the Online Check In line.

While the Cast Member got everything squared away, I spotted the family in the entrance of the lobby. I'd expected Amber to have joined me by then to let them know we were here, so I asked the Cast Member if I could just slip away for a second while she was getting everything in order, because the rest of my group had arrived and I wanted to make sure they got in the right line.

She was a complete sweetheart, and actually told me I should just bring them all over so she could get us all checked in together. I went and gathered everybody up, and then we started a slightly lengthier process of getting the four rooms settled.

Our room was the only one further away from the rest of the group, as we had paid for Preferred, but everybody else was side by side, so that was good. The only hiccup was that Grandma and Mom's room connected to Curtis' rather than Aunt Sarah and Uncle Butch's, but it wasn't that big a deal. We probably could have gotten it switched around then and there, but I didn't want to take up any more of the Cast Member's time, so we left it as is. The adults got their parking permits, we got handed over a bunch of buttons - First Time and Family Reunion and Birthday buttons - and then, the Cast Member handed over the gift bag we'd put together for the kids, which I'd given her before fetching the family, saying that Mickey Mouse had dropped it off for them.

004_zps7ivjklcf.jpg

They went and looked at their goodies while I finished up with Aunt Sarah and Curtis.

005_zpsyw7rlee6.jpg

Then we came across our first little glitch. Grandma's parking permit had somehow vanished between the moment it was handed over the counter and the moment they sat down to open the gift bag. She says the Cast Member took her signature but never handed it over, but long story short, I got back in line so that we could get another one printed.

Our rooms weren't ready by then, so we put our luggage in the family's van, and they moved their cars to be by their building (as we at least had the numbers) rather than in the check in parking. We then got in line for the bus, a little bit later than hoped for, but still not too drastically late.

006_zps9soluupe.jpg

Of course, we were off to the Magic Kingdom again!

007_zps9w5yeg6w.jpg

It wasn't too long until a bus pulled up, and on we got.

008_zps5qkzgk20.jpg

We were probably more excited than the kids at this point, but you know, such is life.

Once we arrived at the park, we had to wait for everyone to get off and then the bus driver to get the rail down for Grandma. We regrouped and got ready to finally make our way inside the magic!

009_zpsfm99rwsh.jpg

010_zps40qct5q1.jpg

011_zpsskvbp6al.jpg

We walked in, keeping our attention mostly on the kids at that point. They were definitely getting more and more excited, and that was what we'd been looking forward to.

012_zpsffnvjnle.jpg

We rounded the corner onto Main Street USA, and finally the castle came into view!

013_zpsidzpfjqz.jpg

Honestly, no matter how many times it happens even just in one trip, that feeling always gets me.

We figured now was as good a time as any to get a family picture, so we waited for the trolley show to pass by.

014_zpsgyujgnlz.jpg

And got in line behind a PhotoPass Photographer so we could get our shot.

015_zpsc2nnritv.jpeg

016_zpsdjuobyt5.jpeg

As it turns out, this was the only picture we got with the whole group in for the duration of the trip, so it's a good thing we stopped when we did.

We then made our way toward the hub, and up around the castle. Our first FastPass+ time window was closing in as it was, but we did find a bit of time to stop and make a wish.

017_zps5umqcrkm.jpg

018_zpsajea5rvz.jpg

019_zpsenioalhr.jpg

Grandma gave each of the kids a quarter to throw in while they made a wish. The boys did first, then Elsye.

020_zpszxlkwtjo.jpg

Although, I'm not sure she fully grasped the concept, but she had no problem dropping the money in so you know, small victories.

021_zpsjw8lmckj.jpg

Thankfully, our first FP+ was nearby, and as we made our way up behind the castle, we just had to turn and make our way into the Fairytale Hall!

Elsye was about to meet her first princesses, and again, I think we were more excited over it than she was.

She was actually not very familiar with a lot of Disney character by then, as they'd tried to make her watch more movies before the trip but her attention span didn't really stay on the tv that much. The characters she did know, though, she was always very excited to see.

And I mean, whether you know her or not, a princess is still a princess!

Day 3, Part 2 - Do You Know How To Use A Frying Pan?

Upon deciding which characters we would try to meet, Amber and I had figured we'd try to split into as few groups as possible, so not to delay other people too much. We had been stuck behind large families who'd let the kids take group pictures, then individual pictures, then pictures with the adults, then the adults taking smaller group pictures, then each family getting a picture... and so on. Those are the kind of groups whom you don't want to find yourself behind, and we didn't want to be one of those.

As it is, the logistics of this Meet & Greet aren't doesn't really make it easy for large groups, so we already knew we'd have to split up, figuring we'd let Aunt Sarah, Uncle Butch and the kids go first, and then the rest of us.

Well, even that didn't appear to be a right fit. We ended up going in four groups. I know, I know. But, we were pretty speedy, so I don't think we made it too terrible on the people behind us.

028_zps6z06kgyx.jpeg

After saying goodbye to Cinderella, we moved over to meet Rapunzel.

She promptly asked the children if they knew how to wield a frying pan.

And took it upon herself to teach them.

Clearly, Ramsey took this lesson to heart.

Princess hugs are the sweetest.

We went up next, and chatted a bit about Pascal, because Amber loves him.

Then the big boys were next to meet her.

And finally, Grandma and Mom.

We exited Princess Fairytale Hall with a bit of time left before our next FastPass+, so we headed over to Mickey's PhilharMagic first. Everyone enjoyed it pretty well, except Aunt Sarah who unfortunately can't watch anything in 3D as it gives her a headache, but I think she still liked seeing Elsye's reactions to it.

Next, we headed over to another short wait attraction and got in line for the Carousel. Mom and Uncle Butch stayed behind.

As it is, I didn't end up riding, nor did Grandma, because obviously Grandma can't get up on those horses, and there are only two benches on the whole Carousel. One of them was taken up by an elderly couple. The other, by a woman with her two young children.

They should definitely have more bench space on this ride.

I decided to follow Grandma off the ride, since I'm not particularly comfortable getting up on the horses either anyway, and we waited by the stroller parking with Mom and Butch while the rest of the group rode.

By then, we were just about ready to use our next FP+, so we started heading that way.

We made a stop for waters first, as it was really hot out and we were all pretty thirsty. Boston also ate his poptart, which he hadn't been hungry for for breakfast and Amber had packed away for him to eat later.

Finally, we were all ready for our trip through the 100 Acre Woods!
