DAS For Neurocardiogenic Syncope

Hate compression stockings! They help me some, but not completely, and they are so uncomfortable I almost never wear them. I have knee high ones, never tried thigh highs. Never worn them in Disney, I figure they will just get sweaty and no quick way to dry them if I wash them.

That's what I figured. My Cardiologist is pretty insistant. I don't know if it's because my case is pretty bad? I FINALLY had my tilt table test done on Tues. so he didn't fully go over my details. But, as I was "coming to" he was hovering over me telling me to put those stocking on! Lol. Luckily it's still winter and I can give them a try for a few months before it gets warm.

I hate wearing compression stockings when it's hot , but I will probably have to this summer.

I had to take my medications when I visited WDW several years ago. They practically eliminated my heat intolerance and I enjoyed my trip without much need for help.

My husband strained his knee the day before our trip and we had to use a wheelchair for him. We were just going to leave the chair in stroller parking and wait in the regular Jungle Cruise line but the cast members had him go through the accessible entrance , we barely had to wait. The people in the regular line didn't mind, some even said not to feel bad and to enjoy ourselves.

I have the same problem but never even considered getting a DAS. I just keep moving my legs, swaying side to side, or doing little knee bends whenever I have to stand. (Including Lines at grocery store etc) I try to keep snacks on hand as mentioned too. Sitting down really fast if necessary as a last resort works fine. It really isn't that big of a deal at Disney or anywhere else.

I was starting to think that the cane with the chair sounded like a good idea, but if they won't let me use it...

Maybe I'll carry around a little neck pillow and use it as a donut to sit on the ground with.

I have seen people with it I have only seen 3 people sitting in it 1 was a lady in line ( I was coming out of 7Dmt and she was going in the FP and was taking it out to sit. 2 was when a man waiting for a parade and the CM told him he could not use it. and 3 when I saw a lady fall out of it and more then likely break her arm. I do not know if they allow them in lines or if this was just one Cm telling someone no.

I know you do not want to use a wheel chair or roller and if you have a good plane in place you may not need one but I will just say this do not but it off all together there are a number of people who do not need them in every day life there are a number of people that are like you they can walk but just need a chair ever now and then. you do not have to use it all the time you can park it in the lands and leave it with the stroller parking.

also think of it as a tool some people need glasses to see, some people need hearing aids to hear some need to use spell check to help with spelling ( ME) some people need a mobility device to help them some times,

What I am trying to say is do not put it off all together if having a mobility device will help your vacation then use it just have it in the back of your mind as an option that you can use.

enjoy your vacation

The canes with seats are not secure and can easily fall over - especially if you are a bit dizzy or wobbly.
For sure, you don't be able to use it for parades.

My MIL wears full compression stockings - even in the summer. She's said they are not bad since she is very used to them.

For Jungle Cruise, the accessible area can be a shorter wait, but could also be longer - possibly much longer. It really depends on how many others are there needing the access.

Also - check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread. It's pasted near the top of this board or you can follow the link in my signature. There is one post you may find especially helpful - it lists attractions where a period of standing always occurs.

What has really helped me with this condition is exercise. After I got into running and yoga I have noticed a large difference in how I feel. I know that heat can be a trigger and I found that getting free ice from counter service with a ziplock bag is a great way to cool off. You can really do well with going early or late and using fastpass plus to reduce standby waits. Have a great vacation!

i will have to wear dresses to hide the ugly socks ! I did find some awesome pink ones but with shorts that may be a no. I plan on teaching my kids how to handle lines before we go.

I was diagnosed with this in 2009. I lasted less than 5 minutes on the tilt table test before passing out. I have been to WDW twice since the diagnosis. I went to WDW this past November when it was 90 degrees with like 80-90% humidity and faired well. We used Fastpasses and tried not to get in to a line that was more than 10 minute posted wait. I agree with carrying something salty to eat while waiting in line. I also do the marching thing. I hum a Disney tune so it doesn't look so 'bad'. I get some looks, but I don't care since I'm in my happy place!! And my condition is pretty well controlled with medication (except when I forget to take that medicine!).

Thank you! I am hoping to be to that point (feeling better) by the time our trip rolls around. I use to climb mountains and at the moment I can barely climb stairs. But, now that I FINALLY have a diagnosis I am determined to gradually work my way back to health. I also have IST, so aerobic exercise is something I will need to gradually increase as my meds (hopefully) kick in. Thanks for the tips!

Love the Disney Tune idea!! I'll have to try that.

I'm definitely starting to reconsider. After reading some other threads here, I may be interested in at least getting a rollator to even just park and have handy in each land as we tour. Thanks for all your advice. Again, it was something I never even really had to pay attention to before, so I'm just working through all of it in my brain.

I honestly wish I could say it has not been a big deal for me. Maybe someday, once I get on the proper meds and learn to implement better coping techniques I can say the same thing. I am not always able to recognize right away what is happening to me. I don't know if it's because I have lived with it for so long (without a diagnoses) and became so used to my presyncope symptoms, or if because I also have some other Autonomic Disorder issues I deal with so it gets a little convoluted as to when I actually need to sit, rest, lay flat, etc... I know that Dysautonomia is a spectrum and I'm still trying to figure out where Im at on that spectrum.

Like I shared before, I didn't really understand what the Card was for and now that I have gained some insight it seems like I may look into a rollator or just adopting better coping techniques. I still have some montgs to start practicing! :)

Thanks for your perspective.

I just went out and bought some more dresses!!! My thighs are not thin to begin with, so adding that bulk will not look great with pants!! I have pinned some sites that sell nicer versions stockings (like colors and textured hosiery) so hoping to find some nice ones!

I just realized I can buy a rollator or wheelchair with my leftover FSA money. I also figured I have money for one rather big splurge or several small ones. Is the fancy VIP tour the only way to get a reserved spot for things like shows or parades?

No. You can FP Wishes (and possibly the MK parade, but I can't remember) which I've heard is a pretty good spot. You can FP or do the dining package for Fantasmic. There is a dessert party for the Epcot fireworks (and possibly FP also) and the MK fireworks as well.

There are several ways to get reserved seating that don't require a VIP tour.
