I am never riding Space Mountain again! A Marathon Weekend TR Complete

All I can picture is the classic Seinfeld episode where runner Jean-Paul misses the NYC marathon start.

I love all your photos from the race- especially the one with your sister in front of the sign before and after the race. The photos of Spaceship Earth is stunning and all of your pictures with characters are awesome.

I'm not a runner, but I absolutely love the idea of running through the Disney parks. I can't think of a more interesting, fun course. I am occasionally tempted to join a C25K program, but so far I have been able to resist the urge.

:goodvibes:
Thanks!

You don't need to be a runner to do the 5K. I would recommend it to anyone it's really a lot of fun.

AWWWW!!!! Great picture!

The People Mover is an interesting first ride, but I love that attraction. Really, really fantastic pictures from your ride around Tomorrowland!

The castle Photopass pictures you got are excellent!

I haven't been to the Poly since the renovation, but the lobby is so pretty in the pictures I have seen.

::yes::
Thanks again!

The lobby is really nice. I wish we got to spend a little more time at the poly to check out some more of the renovations but at least I saw the lobby.

Hey look! thats....

After looking around the newly renovated Polynesian Village resort we headed for the runDisney transportation. We were headed back to WWoS for Sydnee's Mickey Mile! Before we made it there we had to stop at the Grand Floridian and then Shades of Green. I don't have any pictures of the stops but I had never been to Shades of Green before let alone see any pictures of it. It looked very nice and I am glad Disney has a resort for military families.

My grandma made a tutu for my sister but only one problem, it was a little long for running. Sydnee didn't seem to care however she ran with it on.

There were no corrals for this race just one large mob of kids and parents waiting for the start. They had a DJ with music playing and race announcer Karissa there for commentary. The race was set to start at 12:30. We had a little bit of time, so my sister Jordan saw a sign making station and went to make a sign for Sydnee.

Sydnee was ready to go and soon enough they were starting the race!

After the start we booked it over to the 1/2 mile mark to catch her again.

Then we booked it back towards the finish to see the end.

And she did it! Mickey Mile complete! She received her steamboat willie inspired medal and some water with a banana.

My Grandma and Aunt were up top near the Jostens center watching the finish line so we headed back up by them but something happened before that...

We are walking back up the stairs to meet my grandma and aunt when Sydnee says Hey! Thats Mom and Dad! Surprise!

My Mom and Dad flew down to Disney early that morning to meet us at Sydnee's Mickey Mile. My sister caught them out of the corner of her eye hiding near a tent.

My parents were there until Sunday and had a three day hopper. They were staying at Coronado Springs as that was the only place they could get on short notice. We headed back for the buses and were heading back to the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the day, we were now a party of 7.

Up Next: Heigh Ho Heigh Ho its off to Be Our Guest we go!

Somehow I missed the notifications of updates for your TR. Well, I am caught up now. Loved the shots of Illuminations.

I was waiting to hear about the races. Looking forward to the half marathon report. I am seriously considering doing the 5k during Food & Wine 2017 if DH does the half. I hate running, but I think I could manage to do that, especially if it got me backstage or into an empty park:) How were the corrals determined?

I thought that was funny that you set 3 or 4 alarms. We actually woke up late for 7am MK EMH last March, because DH slept through his iPhone alarm. I sleep like a log, so a wussy alarm like that would never wake me up. Usually DH wakes me up at Disney, since I take longer to get ready. He and DS sleep more and then get up just in time to get ready. I woke up on that vacation and stared at the alarm clock until I could actually read the time (my glasses weren't on). I think I started yelling "What!" really loudly when I realized we had overslept. It was kind of a weird bad dream sequence, so I think I blocked it out. I got ready faster than I ever have, and probably missed some things:oops:, but we were only 30 minutes late for EMH. We now set several alarms as backup.

I don't blame you for being raring to go at 8am. I love hitting the parks at rope drop, especially if it's AM EMH. I am not a morning person, or at least I wasn't until I had a child:rolleyes: But I love getting to the parks as soon as possible. We don't usually stay out too late though, just until the fireworks or show. We don't do PM EMH.

I really miss the old Poly lobby, but I have memories of visiting (not staying) when I was a kid. I did get to stay at Poly on my own family's first WDW trip, before the lobby remodel. That waterfall is just so beautiful, lush, and relaxing. I do like the Pineapple Lanai though, and I am looking forward to trying Trader Sam's in March.

Your sister is adorable in the Mickey Mile. That was awesome that your parents came down and surprised you!

I highly recommend any rundisney race. The 5Ks aren't timed or taken as seriously as the other races so you should be ok. The corrals are determined by how fast you expect to complete the race. When you register for a 5K they ask you for what your expected per mile paces is. For example my sister and I put in for a 9-10 min/mile and got placed in corral B.

Yes, I set back ups because if I miss it I'm out of luck completely and that would be really bad. Thankfully my mental alarm was very good that week.

I'm not typically a morning person but as soon as I am up I'm ready to get my day going. And with being up at 3 AM that day I was really ready to go.

I've never stayed at the poly but would love to. I liked the old lobby but I also like the new one. I can understand having a nostalgic attachment, I never had that.

Yes it just added to an already great trip!

I am with you on the nap thing too. Even though I am no Spring Chicken anymore, I still can't do naps. I apparently didn't nap well as baby or kid either. I just like to get all of my sleep in one big window and then get up and going. I am pretty much on or off when it comes to sleeping.

Yep. My mom has never really told me about how I napped as a child but I don't think I was a problem. My mom also has always been the type of person to be like you're at Disney why nap? My first trip was when I was 8 months old (no of course I don't remember) but my mom always questions why people are so stuck to napping schedules for babies at Disney. You're on vacation it's not your normal routine so if they don't nap at "their time" so what. Oh well I think I turned out ok :)

That race looked like so much fun! And how awesome that your parents showed up!! Everyone must have been thrilled!

Yes it was a great time. My grandma was in on the surprise and I actually picked up some hints before we left but was still a bit surprised.

First off, the Mickey Mile looks so fun! I love Syd's tutu- she looked like she really booked it despite the extra length :thumbsup2

What a cool surprise that your parents joined you! Love it!

When she saw us she would start sprinting again. I did see her at parts walking but she kept going. There was one girl that was just crying the entire time.

Yes it was a nice surprise even though it led to a couple plan changes.

Crying the entire time - that would've been our daughter had we "forced" her to run a mile.

Good update - it's a good way to get kids into racing, but it doesn't look nearly as much fun as the Disney races to just run around a track for a mile. However, that is ONE Disney race I could probably handle.

Good on your parents for joining in. They were probably all like "Hey how come the kids get to go where it's warm and we're stuck in the cold!"

They do all sorts of kids races, the Mickey mile is the longest.

That is true, but my dad is a snow plow driver for our city so he actually had to get permission to take vacation at that time.

Sydnee really looks adorable in her tutu!

Also ... it looks like there were a lot of parents running with their kids. Maybe this is one of those "things have changed since I was a kid" situations, but ... when I did races as a kid (which, granted, were local races, not Disney races), I don't remember any parents running with the kids. The parents were expected to be on the sidelines. It seems so weird to me to see the parents running with the kids.

It's so awesome that your parents came down for the weekend!! I'm sure you really enjoyed having them there, even though I'm sure it affected your plans somewhat (I mean, they weren't on your ADRs and FP+, right?).

Yes it was quite the tutu. She was hesitant to wear it at first but ended up wearing it and liking it.

Yes you are allowed to run with your kids at rundisney races. I think they feel some kids might be afraid to do it alone. I was going to run with Syd, but she ended up going by herself and did great!

Yeah, they weren't on our ADRs but they were able to match FPs relatively good. It now makes sense that my mom kept asking me my plans so often to make sure she could coordinate with me. There were a few FP that she could get to match but for the most part worked. They were able to join us for one ADR but we will get to that later!

I love Sydnee's tutu too!

Also that's such a nice surprise that your parents came down! I would've done a double take or walked right by my parents if they were to do something similar!
