Dessert Party in leiu of Reception Meal

Were you able to make a Soarin' mix-in work with your Epcot DP? I'm considering different welcome party ideas and think this would be a blast, but not sure how the timing would work, so I'm curious to know if someone else pulled it off and was able to do Soarin and Illuminations together.

We just did one a few months ago after my birthday IllumiNations dessert party. The show ends, they escort you to Soarin' through a back entrance near World Showplace, you wait til the last guests leave the theater and then you get on it!

Oh my goodness, how awesome! Where was your dessert party?

I know this wasn't the original post topic but as it's mentioned here seemed sensible to continue the conversation!

We're having a dessert party at Epcot - all of our guests have park admission. Would our ride mix-in need to be before the party or afterwards? Also if they have admission would it cost us anything?

They are charging us a viewing fee per person for Illuminations. I explained they all have 2-week UK hopper tickets but apparently this is a recent rule following feedback from guests!?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I wanted to chime in on the DP instead of regular reception- this is the way we're planning on going and our catering manager has not given us any limit on the non-dessert food we can add in. We haven't pushed it, but it seems that workstations can be done, as long as the chefs ok the setup.

It's as close to park closing as possible, so it's usually after IllumiNations.

No, there is no mix-in fee for guests who have park admission.

Yes, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings has started charging a flat $10/person viewing fee for all but the bridal couple, regardless of whether guests have admission. The other excuse I've heard is that park management asked for it. However, Disney Catered Events still goes by the old policy of just charging $12.95 per person without admission, so that seems specious to me...

Thanks Carrie. I'm definitely going to request a ride mix-in, another way to make it special!

Ok now I'm mad. We had 28 people at our dessert party. We paid for 26 viewing fees and 28 soarin ride mix ins. Even though two of our guests had tickets, including us. They didn't say anything about people with tickets not having to pay for soarin

Yeah, file this under "Things You're Somehow Supposed to Know to Ask".... We had a couple of those too....

I think this is a really cool idea! I'd be pretty happy to go to a wedding at Disney with a dessert party :lovestruc
If possible, it might be nice to see if you can organize a lunch or dinner with everyone together (not on your wedding day) so everyone can talk in an intimate setting and feel like they got a meal time together out of the trip, even if everyone pays for their own meal! :)

I have to agree with the poster that would be very surprised not to be fed after a 5:30 ceremony. If you want to go that route, I highly suggest doing what another poster did and give Disney Gift Cards out to each person there so that they can at least have SOME money towards getting a bite to eat of their own and not feel like they have to fend for themselves, even if they are just friends and family. Also be VERY detailed with everything the DP will have, so people are NOT expecting more than is really there.

I've just asked my planner about the ride mix-in. She is saying that we have to pay $15 per person, even for those who have park admission (in our case we all have a 14 day UK ticket). Has anyone actually been able to get the mix-in free if they have admission? If we have to pay a fee it's going to price us out being able to do this.
Thanks for any advice.

Can anyone help to clarify whether I should be paying for a ride mix-in for those that have park admission? Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that I shouldn't get charged.

Would really appreciate some help. Thank you.

I would go back to your planner and ask her to double-check that. Historically there has not been a charge. They could have changed the policy very recently, or she could have incorrect info. Sometimes it's just about how far you press the issue. Does she know it's a dealbreaker for you?

I responded - the planner is adamant that I must pay a ride mix-in fee even for those with admission. She has given me information and deadlines to cancel so I guess she isn't prepared/able to override the pricing. It's so frustrating that it seems that different people get different treatment!
This, on top of the unexpected viewing fee, sucks!
Thanks for the guidance!

:sad2: Can I help you reduce your budget elsewhere to make up the difference? They don't have you in motor coaches, do they?
