Cabana Bay vs. RPR for Family of 5 in mid-April

Ok so now that I'm reading this again...is that right that it is an extra $25/night for a rollaway? That means it would be more cost effective for us to BUY an inflatable mattress than to pay for 6 or 7 nights with the rollaway.

Correct. We worried about comfort too. We've never done the rollaway so I'm not sure how comfortable it is. But I have a couple kids that are super picky about beds - sofa beds and pull-out beds result in a bad night's sleep for them - so I'd rather bring a camping mattress and not risk it.

Housekeeping will bring you bedding for the inflatable.......just call star services on the phone.....no charge for this at all.

We are staying at CB for a couple different reasons 1) we are canadian so our dollar plays a big part and my family suite I got for dirt cheap 2) no one will have to sleep on a mattress on the floor. 3) it has a microwave and fridge that we can use to make breakfast before we head out or lunches if just hanging around the resort.. we have 7 days we can go to the park so don't rally in FOTL

Youngb, sounds like your plan will work great for the family.
You'll have the space you need and save money by doing breakfast in the room.
With having 7 days onsite, you'll be able to do everything in the parks and city walk
Enjoy Cbay!

I am totally with you here. I've already started researching inflatable twin mattresses because honestly we'll probably get quite a bit of use out of one based on how much we like to travel.

VERY good to know...thanks!

We actually might end up at Portofino Bay now, because I learned this week we can get a better discount there now than at RPR...which is very strange. However Portofino has bigger rooms...and it sounds like a longer walk to the parks...but I think we'll be happy with either one.

You'll be happy at either hotel :thumbsup2.......don't worry about the longer walk from PBH.......it's really not that far if you do walk and of course there are the boats if you don't feel like walking.........

Found a great discount code yesterday so booked RPR for a great rate. Only concern I have is the thin walls I keep reading about, but that seems to be a concern for both RPR and PB so won't matter. Just have to get an inflatable twin mattress sometime between now and June. Really looking forward to this trip but it's so far away! Come on summer!

We've stayed many times and never had an issue with noise. On our last trip, this last Nov/Dec, our area of the hotel seemed pretty full despite it being the off season. I only knew this by seeing people go in and out of their rooms in the hallway. It was super quiet in the room. There were families many in that area though - I'd think hallway noise coming in would be a bigger issue when there are youth groups visiting.

Glad to hear it.......as for room noise, unfortunately it's just your luck who you get next to you.......last year we never heard a sound from either side of us......couple of years ago we had very noisy "nighttime" activities from couple next door lol....that was funny actually.......and have had a noisy neighbour on other occasions too.......but don't dwell on it.......if someone is exceptionally noisy just complain and they'll send someone up.......

Your trip will come around, I know it's awful to wait, but it'll be worth it.........

Thanks so much for the information. I just recall the few times we stayed at Disney's Pop Century and the running around at night right outside the doorways was nuts.

Good to hear! Hopefully we'll be just fine. I can sleep through ANYTHING (including my own snoring according to my family) but the rest of my group contains some light sleepers. Guess if it's that bad they can always return for mid-afternoon naps!

when i am at rpr, the only noise of running in the hallway is in the morning.
and it always happens on the mornings i plan to sleep in.........lol

Yes I can certainly imagine that happening to us as well. However as I always say...we are on vacation...we can sleep when we get HOME! :-) :drive:

Update: We decided on a shorter trip w/ split stay. Will arrive early in the day on 4/9 and stay at CB for one night. We are then moving to RPR for three nights. After three days in the parks, we are going to spend the last three days of our trip at the beach.

We decided that ultimately, FOTL is important to us. We like the idea of not having to worry about lines or adding FOTL at an additional cost later. Spending the extra $$ at RPR is worth it for us.

Also, staying at CB the first night will save us a few hundred bucks, and we will get to explore and enjoy what it has to offer.

I'll let you know if the RPR rooms are too small for the five of us, but I suspect we will be fine. :)

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!

The standard rooms at RPR are small, and unless your kids are little I couldn't imagine staying there with a roll away bed. We have a family of 5 and stayed at RPR and HRH when the kids were little and it was fine. We didn't get a roll away at the time. We enjoyed our stays and would love FOTL access but cannot afford the larger rooms to accommodate us. We are going to stay at CBBR this trip, we really want to see all the Harry Potter stuff so we are good with our park admission 1 hour early.

I just read your update, you have to do what's best for your family. We are staying at CBBR for 4 nights and headed to the beach also for 4 nights. Have a great vacation!

when i would take 3 of my boys to the darkside and stayed at rpr or hrh, we managed fine.
only stayed onsite for 3 nights and most of our waking time was at city walk, or the parks.
spent time in the room only for sleeping.
some trips we would not be back in the room until midnight, then up at 7 the next morning to hit the parks again.

those days are long gone as now i go solo and do a king suite.......hahahaha
and i stay a lot longer on vacations.

We have a family of 5 and always end up with one child putting 2 chairs together to sleep in (her choice). We are going back in a few months and will be bringing her an air mattress this time. My kids may be odd, but they did not like Cabana Bay. All three will say PB is their favorite, although we have not tried HRH. We wanted to do a split stay on the next trip, but it ended up being much cheaper to just stay at PB the whole time.

i say that too but i am in orlando for 19 nights.
hit disney first then have 14 nights onsite for UO.

after doing hhn which ends at 2 am on weekends, i cherish morning sleep the next day.
