I wish all on board well it has to be very scary! I read the winds are not as strong as earlier.

Same here, there is a 20 page thread on CC about it, sounds like it was pretty intense, but they are moving south again. Hopefully the passengers and crew have an uneventful rest of the trip.

Man, why can't this stuff happen to one of the cruises I'm on???? If I could knowingly sign up for a big seas sailing on any ship I WOULD in a heartbeat.

Sorry others were frightened &/or sick. Not what they signed up for, I'm sure. But it happens. Glad everyone is okay.

Same here, our inaugural Hawaii cruise on the Wonder was pretty rough, thankfully they were widely spaced rollers, big ones though. It was a blast, the quiet cove pool was plus minus about 2-3 feet and I slept like a baby.

Reading on CC it sounds like the Captain handled the situation well and the cruisers onboard have too. It gives me confidence in the line that they can handle a freak storm like this.

I'm on a FB group for the Anthem and watching it closely since I sail on that ship in three weeks. Anyway, it wasn't really a hurricane level storm but serious enough to do a lot of damage and cause the captain to turn the ship around to go back to the sailing port to asses the damage. RCL announced it will reimburse all the passengers on the cruise 100% and provide a 50% discount on any future cruise. RCL will make an announcement on Wednesday on how long the repairs will take and if effects any future cruises. Four passengers where injured as a result of the storm. I sure do hope repairs will be completed before my cruise.

:)

I bet my DH would like it too. He used to work on oil tankers in Alaska and tells stories with a smile that make me want to die.

Anyway, it wasn't really a hurricane level storm

Good point. Not a hurricane.

I think it's telling that the people on CC posting from the ship were scared but they trusted the captain and his handling of everything. And the immediate compensation makes a huge difference as well.

RCCL claims the storms the storm was a surprise, but many weather specialists claim that the intensity of the storm was predicted some time earlier.

I believe RCCL's position is that they knew the storm was forecasted, but it was a much stronger storm than the info they had received. Lots of people aren't buying that though.

I doubt a major cruise line would purposely head out into a storm of that magnitude. It doesn't make fiscal or safety sense. Anyway, it seems like it was handled well.

Definitionally not a hurricane, but only because it wasn't a storm with a tightly wrapped eye - not because it didn't have hurricane force winds. The ship did report that the quartering wind off the port bow was measured at 135 knots (155 MPH) at the height of the storm. If it had an eye wall, that would have been a cat 4 hurricane.

From what I've read it's actually 50% of what you paid for THIS cruise can go toward a future cruise. Still a significant discount, but not exactly the same as 50% off any cruise.

Sure seems like an exciting experience, but a lot of people aren't on a cruise for an exciting experience, but a relaxing one.

Maybe there should be a line for "extreme cruising." Hurricane's a comin? Hop on the ship (after signing this 87 page release form) and here we go!! :boat:
