Will first aid keep and freeze cold packs for me?

I was wondering if I give first aid two gel ice packs, can they freeze and keep them for me? When I need one i could go pick it up and use it in the park. Then, when I brought it back the other one would be ready and waiting for me.

In all reality, I think the best thing for me to do time wise is to just keep them at my hotel and leave the parks by dinner time and spend the evening icing my back at the hotel. I don't think I'll want to repeatedly interrupt my day to go to first aid, but I do want to know if that option is there. Has anyone ever done that?

I have heard that you can leave stuff at first aid, dont know about the ice packs , but if its medically needed then I would think they would.. can you get one of those bandanna bands that you wet to keep you cool? and use on the back..? or not cold enough?

I have heard that freezer and refrigerator space at First Aid is very limited and they give priority to medications. You *may* be allowed to leave ice packs, but if someone else comes with medication your ice packs could get pulled out. Rather than risk the possibility of not having it cold/cold enough when you return needing it, I suggest using a "plan B" instead. Some options might be:
  • Cooling towels mentioned above if those work well enough for your needs
  • bring some ziploc bags and ask for a cup (or 2 or 3) of ice at any CS location
  • toss into your bag some of those single-use ice packs kept in first aid kits
  • return to resort (will you be able to keep ice packs frozen in your resort room?)

Enjoy your vacation!

I have heard other guest ask and have been told both yes and no ( not sure why as it was not me or someone I was with needing it) I have also walked n to first aid and the nurse look at me and ask are you needing to put something in the fridge and telling them yes then the nurse looked at the guest and say I am sorry we can not put your things in the fridge ( again I do not know why but I do know it was not medical ) the fridge are small ( not the very small ones for dorms or at lest at MK)

there have been a few times my things were the only thing in the fridge and the nurse let me get my things and use the room the fridge is in.

some things you may want to consider as judy said bring some bags with you and get some ice at QS and use that or you can stop by first aid and they can make an icepack for you you can also use this time to rest some as you will be doing a lot of walking and you may need some time to lie down ( even 20 minutes can do wanders and I know you have to change position ever 20 to 30 minutes )

they also have single use ice packs it is costly but it may keep you from going to first aid or QS to get ice if time really is that valuable

First aid will give you ice packs. Not single use but ice in a bag wrapped. I got some for dd when she crunched her hand in a door

also would the Ice hot patches help you with your back pain they are thin and do not take up much space or weigh much but I am not sure how long they last for or if this is something you can use

yes this is what I was saying I was saying if the OP did not want to stop at first aid they do sell not at disney but single use ice pack that once open you shack it some and it get cold ( when I got hurt on BTMRR this is what the paramedic gave me) but yes first aid dose make ice pack with ice in a bag and once the ice melts you have to get some more.

what about a canister of Bio Freeze? i get that treatment every month with my massage and it is awesome.

You can get ice from any counter service. What some people do is bring something to put ice in - like an old fashioned ice bag. When you need it, you can get ice and fill it up and when you are done using it, just empty it and store the empty ice bag.

First Aid is able to store medications that need to be refrigerated, but because of medication safety rules, only medication can be in medication refrigerators.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I didn't think of qs and that will do just fine. Sometimes when overdoing it a quick shot of cold can decrease the swelling causing the extra pain.

I do have a mini fridge with a tiny freezer in my room. Won't be completely frozen but good enough. Or just ice from the ice machine in a ziplock.

I also have a back brace I can bring to the parks to help hold the ice pack against my back.

Have you used instant cold packs? Ice in a baggie is a good alternative, but you can carry these with you and activate when needed and they won't melt while waiting to be used.

I know you said the best thing for you is to leave the park by dinner and go back to your hotel I would not do this and just take a long break either at first aid a meal ( QS or ADR) because the lines are so much shorter the latter it gets and you can do some much ( exspsily if you miss the night time things parade firer works) so I would just rest at the park some were may be take 2 30 to 45 minute breaks so that you can enjoy the rides at night

First Aid has beds and gurneys, so resting is never a problem, and they don't ask questions.
I know I go into first aid to rest just about every day that I am at Disney when I do not go to first aid to rest I end up almost passing out to passing out all together I had told the op about resting in first aid before but it did not sound ( or that was my take ) that she wanted to do this or she did not. Want to walk a cross the park

Since I'm feeling my best in the morning, I'm going to take advantage of the short morning lines rather than the short evening lines. The one day I'm at MK, I will try to stay the whole day because now that I have the rollator I will be able to sit/stand while I'm waiting for Wishes and the parade. There is another reason I'm leaving the parks at dinner time, other than the MK day, and that is because I'm on a budget. I'd prefer to eat dinner off site at McDonald's or something to save some money. Money is also the reason I can't get express passes at Universal, which would be so wonderful if I could get. I've also set aside time in the late afternoon when lines are long for my DDs to go off on their own if they want and I can rest if I need to. I know the first aid is an option and I will just play it by ear by how I'm feeling.

I have not and i will have to look into them and their cost.

OP- Here is another type of refillable ice bag that you might want to look at - there are a number of companies have them listed on Amazon but I am familiar with Medline so I clicked on that choice. I have used these for over 30 years for my back, they cover more of an area than the old fashioned refillable bags that was recommend earlier in the thread, and they are far less bulky and drippy than a ziplock bag even wrapped in a towel. I usually cut the ties off when I use them on my back, they last for many uses and I usually only throw them out if I get them dirty, I have had maybe 3-4 that actually sprung a leak and that was after many days of use. I did drop one once on a tile floor in a bathroom in Las Vegas...............I forgot it was tucked in the waistband of my pants and it fell to the floor but it only spilled a little water out of it when it burst open since I had just filled it with ice, I scooped up the ice and disposed of it and was back in business enjoying my trip! Later that night, I pulled out another one from my suitcase and was good to go!
