Concussion and going to Universal!!!

I suffered a concussion (slipped on the ice outside my front door) and ended up with stitches on the back of my head about 3 weeks ago. I've been going to physio 2x a week and my symptoms seem to be getting better - dizziness, headaches, neck pain and the "fog". We would like to take the family to Universal this summer (Dr. And therapist both think I should be fine) however I would value anybody's input. Have any of you had a similar experience? Should I wait? Are certain rides "off" the table?

Thanks for any insight,

If your Dr. and therapist both say you should be fine, and you're feeling OK, I would go with their recommendations.

Summer is a long way away. Key is to take it slow and easy now and let things heal. It is your brain, don't mess with it. If things go well all should be good but you never know what the long terms effects are going to be. Fingers crossed for you.

I have had headaches on and off since my last major concussions in 2006. At that point I ended up with two within a 6 month period. First one was July (missed a month of work as a result), the second at xmas. The second was really just a tap on the back of the head. After the July incident, that was all it took. That being said, except for the headaches, I haven't had any major issues with rides at Disney. We are doing Universal for the first time this August.

Thanks for your insight - sorry about your concussions. Did any of the 3-D rides bother you?

I hope you have a great time at Universal!!! Take care:flower:

I have found that as I have gotten older there has been a gradual decline in how much I could take. That I chalk up to age more than anything. Expidition Everst at Disney's Animal Kingdom is probably the worst. Oldest daughter loves it. In 2013 we did B2B2B. It was early so it was basically walk on with no chance of recovery. By the third time round I was ready to puke.

Knowing how you feel right now, if you tried it now you would be in a fetal position praying to die. Motion sickness tends not to be an issue with me. Survived Hurricane Irene on the Disney Dream in 2011 which left most people green and sick (personally I loved it - which of course probably means I need my head examined - which fortunately I have had done :rotfl2:).

The second consusion in 2006 was at xmas right before we were heading North from Toronto to visit family in Northern Ontario. Made it about 2 km from the house before we pulled off in to a gas station and I was puking. As bad as it seems it does get better.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Perhaps it's the head injury -what's b2b2b? Lol!!!
I will take it nice and slow- good advice.

I've never suffered a concussion but I work as a data analyst that gets to review cases of people who has suffered concussions/brain injuries.

If the doctor and PT gives you the okay, then it should be a problem. But I would stay away from rides that would increase/decrease pressure in your brain (ie. ToT @ Disney:yo-yo::yo-yo:).

As for the 3D rides.. maybe you can spend a movie night for a 3D version and see how well you fair.

Hope you feel better soon.pixiedust:

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree - Any sudden increase or decrease in pressure is probably NOT a good idea. Good point!!! I will try a 3-D movie before hand and see how it goes.

Cheers

I would check with your health insurance company. How long do you have to be symptom free before you would be covered should anything happen while in the US? Even though the doctors say you should be fine, I would check the fine print of your health insurance policy before making concrete plans.

Good idea. Haven't found anything yet. I'm starting to feel a little bit better every week so fingers crossed.

Thanks,
