Renting DVC points?

My family and I are looking into renting DVC points through David's for our next trip. Just curious if anyone has done this and how difficult of a process it can be? Do you have to be flexible with your dates? Is it more difficult to get certain hotels? We were most interested in a studio at AKL for a family of four. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

We are renting for the first time in May. It has been a fairly easy process, but I did not get ANY of my top choices. I had to adjust both my budget and my resort to find something in the 6 month timeframe. I know we cannot cancel or adjust dates at all. We also have no Mousekeeping as we are only there for six nights. We, too, have an AKL studio, but had to upgrade to a Savannah-view as the lower-grade studios go very quickly. I would suggest that you contact either David's or DVC store as soon as you decide. Overall, I am excited to stay deluxe at the same price-point as we usually pay for value.

We've rented privately (SSR & BWV) and through David's (VGF & AKL). It's very easy and although more expensive than going privately a lot easier to secure those harder to get reservations. We add housekeeping when we get there ($30 per day for studio) and it's well worth the price considering how much renting points costs.

I've rented through another agency and the process was pretty simple. Requested a resort and dates, get a yes it's available, paid deposit, and received WDW confirmation number that I plugged into MDE and it's all there. Have even customized magic bands already for the November trip.

An AKL studio will be almost impossible to get. There are not very many and they are taken fast by DVC owners. The farther in advance you make the request the more likely it is to get what you want.

AKL low point rooms are hard to get at the 7 month mark. If your dates are flexible it might be fine. Dave has been around a long time and I'm sure can help with your questions.

I would rent points in a heart beat if our dates could be locked in. For the time being and our Jobs we have to stay flexible so room only ressies with direct with Disney and the 5 day cancellation window are a must right now for my family. Otherwise we would def rent points.

Remember a DVC room is not like the resort rooms. They aren't updated as often so it's hard to compare here on the regular resort forum. You may want to post this in the DVC section.

I am a DVC member and have not heard of any problems with people renting with David. If AKL studio is very important for you, you may want to find a DVC member directly who owns at AKL so you can book before the 7 month window opens up. You may be surprised what co-workers, friends, neighbors or relatives are DVC members who would be more than willing to rent to you and they may even give you a break on the cost per point.

I've rented through David's and the process is pretty easy. If they don't have what you want in the time frame you want they will tell you what they do have. Be warned, it is not always less expensive to rent points so do your homework.

Is it more difficult to get certain hotels? We were most interested in a studio at AKL for a family of four.

Yes, it can be more difficult to get certain villas. That said, AKL is usually quite possible anywhere from 11-6 months out, so long as you don't set your hopes on either Value Studios (lowest points) or Club Level (there are only 5 of these). So long as you are willing to pay for Savannah View, this is usually quite bookable via DVC rental agencies.

We are renting points for november. We wanted an Epcot resort for food and wine festival, and knew we would have to book close to 11 months out. David's came back with no availability for our dates for the room type we wanted, but a more expensive room was available. I looked into it further and rented points from a DVC owner through ebay who had good reviews and was able to get our first choice room for us. And for $3 less a point!

We are renting at AKL Savanna view for the week of Thanksgiving, we used a different broker and had no problems with availability. It was overall really easy. How do I add housekeeping? Do I add it at check in? And can I pick the days?

The best way to ensure you have the best selection of room inventory available is to be in contact with David's prior to the 11 month window. For AKV, as the PP said, as long as you're not looking for value villas or club level, you should have good availability for most of the year, even at 7 months.

If you're traveling between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, you'll want to try to book as close to 11 months out as possible. I understand that we're well past that point for 2016 bookings, but if that is when you plan to travel, start the booking process ASAP.

How so? I'm thinking of renting points to stay at Beach Club but if I can get it cheaper or the same by booking normally, I can do that too.

It can depend.

Deluxe can sometimes be 30-35% off. You can find agents with great deals (like one who has dates at the Poly for $250/night, with mousekeeping).

We just got back from a wonderful trip... stayed at the Poly in one of the studios and rented those points through David's. It was a super easy process to book, though I did have to be a little bit flexible with my dates, only just by a matter of days though, and that was not a problem. It probably helped that we were going in early February as opposed to for a big event or holiday.
I really wanted to stay at the Poly, so I was willing to wait and be flexible with dates. Initially, they didn't have what I was looking for, but within a matter of days, they were able to book me in at the Poly in my date range.

We stayed 8 nights, so we did not get Mousekeeping, only trash and towel service, but that was OK. I feel like we got a great value by going this route, and I would definitely do it again. David's was helpful and responsive throughout the booking process. And after we booked, it was simple to just link up our reservations to MDE, link the Magic Bands, etc. etc.

For eight nights, you should have gotten a full cleaning on day four and your trash removed and towels replaced on day eight (the day before you left). If you were there seven nights or less, you would just get trash removed and towels replaced on day four.

Often what is available to rent might be bigger than you want or need so you'll end up paying less than you did if you just rented those rooms but more than you would have had you rented a room as a discounted rate. Example: maybe for your time the only thing available is a 2 bedroom, you really just need a studio, you could get a deluxe room when they are on discounted rates lower than you would renting a 2 bedroom on points. It's all about how much research and work you are willing to do. My upcoming trip I'm going for 6 nights for F&G, I'm paying a total of a little over $1300 for two adults. I'm doing a split stay, 2 nights at CBR, 4 nights at Dolphin. I got the CB through Orbitz with a discount code and had some Orbitz bucks added up so those got applied too. I got the Dolphin for $238 per night which includes their silly resort fee but does not include parking which I'll have to pay since I drive down so round up to $250. For a deluxe in an Epcot resort. I checked on renting points for any part of the stay and the only thing available was SS for a little over $1500 for a studio for one night less. You just have explore all the options.

Now that I count it was 7 nights! We checked out on day 8. And yes, just trash and towels at day 4. That worked out fine.

We have always wanted to stay at The Boardwalk or Beach Club for F&W but not for $500+ a night! I contacted the DVC rental store 11 months out and was as loose as I possibly could be in terms of what we were looking for: a 4 to 6 night stay during F&W. They found me several options both resorts. We ended up choosing BWV because the studios will have been renovated at that point. We did pay a bit of a premium for booking so far out however we saved 50% on the rate so fine by me!
