Are Value Resorts Really This Bad, Or Was This Bad Luck?

And then you just have to hope there are connections on the TV for whatever you're bringing.

In addition, if you bring your own DVD player you better had some way to lock it down or hide it. For sure it isn't fitting into a safe, and Disney is not responsible if something goes missing from your room.

Except that it was either 9 or 10 by the time we got back. Our earliest night was AK naturally. But we ate dinner at Rainforest Café, so by the time we got back to our hotel, it was 8, and where do they play this movie? Anyway, if it was right there on our way to the room, we still would've walked right in the middle. Thankfully on that night Disney Channel was airing Aladdin. We caught the last half of that. Just as the Prince Ali parade started (still the best parade WDW has ever put on)

Except we did not have magic hours at any of the parks we went to. The only chance we had at getting MH was canceling a lunch reservation that I painstakingly had to refresh and check over 2 months before.

All of the hotels have a movie near the pool or another similar space. In Winter its around 7pm, as you were saying you were around the hotel in the evening I wasn't sure if you knew they offered that. Otherwise I was suggesting you stay in the parks for the fireworks, but if you were leaving the parks after 9pm it is likely you saw them anyway.

I'm not sure why Extra Magic Hours are relevant? If you were a guest at a Disneyworld hotel, you could have stayed in the parks (or arrived earlier) on the days when EMH are offered. But if you have a three-year-old then staying up late enough for the fireworks is probably enough! I initially was just suggesting ways you could have filled the evening, but again with a small child you might not have wanted to keep them awake much longer anyway!

We usually stay at a Deluxe property, but recently spent a night a POP. As we were traveling with others we did a split stay between Pop and Best Western in Disney Springs. Both were mediocre hotels, but Disney was slightly improved as were the quality of people staying there. We had courteous neighbors, overall the room was clean, and we had Disney amenities. However, we had a hot room and needed maintenance to fix it, the wait for them to come was long and it kept my toddler up well past bedtime, the rooms are small, the walking distance to a food court and bus are long, and the food court was a madhouse. All in all I got what I paid for, and when I pay for a deluxe I feel I get the experience I pay for as well. I think it's all about expectations.

We've stayed at a mod the first two times we went, but last Nov stayed at ASMu. I was so worried, but it turned out we loved it more than CSR!

We did have issues w/ the toilet not flushing the way it should, and we did have issues with the AC (but the maintenance man came right away and fixed it), but I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Sorry it sounds like you had a dud of a room. :(

Would it be safe to bring a classic red white yellow component cables? I'm not bringing something nice enough that requires hdmi. Would my cables be too old school? Maybe I should bring an extra coax cable just in case.

The way the resort is laid out, I would just assume that I would be forced to walk right past it. But the only time we arrived back before 9 was when we went to AK, and stayed late for dinner. Didn't see anything going on by the pool. Oh, but there was this one crazy guy who pulled out some guns and started firing rapidly in the air! I could not believe it!

We are not morning people. If only morning hours were offered, we went elsewhere. No point in going to an extra crowded park when you're not even going to utilize that extra time. The evening EMH were rarely offered, and that was when our dining reservation prevented us from changing parks. I had about a month to adjust schedules, but when my husband first booked this over two months before, the only time offered was at three, so when I accidentally found a 12:45 time days later, and THAT was the only time that day, I took it, and figured that I wouldn't be as lucky if I got greedy, especially after hearing companies snatching up reservations simply to resell. There is no reason the first week of February should be booked so far in advanced like it were Christmas/New Years!

Anyway, we saw all the fireworks and shows, I just figured, with EMH, you expected up to see the MSEP at 10pm, which we have done before. We have in the past, and it was definitely worth the wait

Actually depending on where you stay, especially in a moderate resort, you walk to the food court can be way longer than a value.

I'd expect this from a Motel 6, but not Disney. Is this was their value resorts are like, or did I just end up with a crappy room?

I have said many times on these boards that the "values are Motel 6 with disney crap splattered on the wall" and I have been scolded for it. But it is honestly what I associate the values too. Rectangle, hard angle cinder block buildings, built to maximize guests per square foot ratio. The values are where disney makes the money, not deluxe.

The TVs at all the WDW we have stayed recently have had HDMI, Component (blue, green, red) and Composite (red, white, yellow). :thumbsup2

agreed. they all have a single connection box with multiple types of connections. works well for cameras and laptops to view pictures and what not.

for me. we never change it of the "stacy" channel. or who ever the "10 best" girl is now.

Disney Value resorts are in no way comparable to other motels; Disney value resorts are better by leaps and bounds (and I consider myself relatively snobbish).

Oh, and "Disney crap" is another red flag that tells me that you are not a disney person ;)

I hafta defend DSLRuser for a moment.

My house is filled with Disney CRAP. In no way could I show you my collection of CRAP and have you say that I wasn't a Disney person. You just couldn't. It is very quite possible to be a Disney person and use the term "disney crap" freely. Many times I will talk about the Disney Tax they put on Disney CRAP. Basically anything affordable instantly becomes higher priced, simply for having licensed Disney CRAP on it.

"Look at this stuff! Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collections complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm a girl, a girl who has Disney CRAP?
I've got lanyards and pins aplenty
I've got shirts and plushies galore
You want Elsa dolls? I've got twenty!
But who cares? No big deal. It's Disney CRAP!"

Yep. Exactly. We felt like POFQ felt like a motel as well. And I'm all about Disney crap.

Could've been worse. Could've been Pop Century's AoA:

You mean AoA before they covered it in Disney crap and opened it??? Geesh, nothing like trying to make it seem like an abandoned resort compares to an open one.

I also have to wonder what resorts you guys are used to that POFQ looks like a cheap motel.

There's that term again =)

It was abandoned for almost a decade. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Disney tried to charge squatters as if they were guests, Disney crap or no Disney crap.

Agreed. Looks a ton nicer than POR (minus the Mardi Gras decor), and I would never consider that place anywhere close to a Motel 6

It's 2016...do people still use DVD players? I haven't had one in my own house for at least 5 years.

reading this I can only hope this was just a fluke. we have had great times at all star resorts in the past, but that was also when they were first opening and my kids were young. we had a "crummy" experience at POP a couple trips back that really make me worry about our upcoming trip booked at POP(kids' choice plus we are doing 2 rooms at pop or it would have been 1 at CBR). I know we will bring the power strip and dvd player, but I am thinking our own soaps as well(just cant remember if you get the same at moderates as you do at values) hate to complain/ask a question for fear that others take it the wrong way.
