We are new to DVC. Back in October when we were in Disney, we were told that being a DVC member entitled you to a discount on an annual pass.

If you only do one trip a year (taking into consideration the cost of flights and time to get there) I can't see as we would go more than once a year, is it not better to just buy a 14 or 21 day ticket from the Disney Web site as this gives you access to the water parks, a game of crazy golf each day and Disney quest as well if I remember rightly?

Really it depends how many days you are going and what the exchange rate is like. This year we are going for 10 nights. For our family of 5 we were about £400 cheaper buying the 14-for-the-price-of-7-days UK tickets than annual passes (the non water park ones). Our 2016 and 2017 trips will be 9 months apart (October and July) so we'll then be cheaper getting annual passes as they'll cover both holidays.

We are DVC too, and try to plan so we can use annual pass for 2 holidays. Means the holiday is more relaxing your not trying to cram everything into the day.
We recently stayed at BWV and just walked into Epcot for a Starbucks, because we could :-) then watched the world running in to get to their chosen rides

We like the annual pass as we do 15-18 night trips and do not do whole days at the parks we like to just got for a couple of hours then somewhere else at night. We also use the dining and merchandise discounts and have also used the room discounts.

We try and sometimes get two trips from 1 in fact last pass I got 3 trips in.

We go every other year so annual passes are not an option for us. We have bought in the past non expiration tickets but were wondering for 2017 where do people get the 14 for price of 7 ? Thanks

We do the analysis every time.

Our last trips we had annual passes and got 3 trips out of them

Our upcoming trips I bought 8 day US passes because that was the cheapest that fitted our plans.

It all depends. We try and do two trips in less than 12 months but on different UYs then skip a year. It doesn't always work out.

If we haven't got enough park days (or trips) planned to warrant an Annual Pass, we generally will buy MYW tickets as they usually work out cheaper for the number of days we need. If you literally plan to go to the parks every day for 2 weeks, though, your best bet is probably the 14 day ultimate ticket.

We go twice a year (summer and Christmas) so the AP is good for us. Last year we also had an extra trip at Easter so really felt the benefit. The odd year when we've only had one trip I've bought the standard UK pass.

We only buy the APs if we're going twice within the year, e.g. October & August. It's not viable for just one trip as has been said.

A Gold annual pass is the best option if you don't travel during the blackout dates (US Holidays) and you can space at least two trips in one year. For example if one year you travel in November and next year you travel in October, an AP is the best option.
Otherwise the ultimate ticket is a great offer because it now includes the Photopass. If you plan 7-8 days and don't need the water parks or the parkhopper, then MYW tickets are a bit cheaper. However the ultimate gives more flexibility, so sometime I buy it anyway to have the option to parkhop even if it wasn't in my plan (I don't like to parkhop at WDW).

I would say go for annual pass (gold) for one of you to get the discounts that it comes with (especially if you sine a lot and get Tables in Wonderland) as if you are going for over 10 days your are quids in. Then get rest of party 14 day tickets.

I’ve been crunching the numbers and think I could save by getting annual passes.

Currently a 14 day ticket (for the price of 7) costs £355 per adult.

We like to go in January so my thinking is that for th first year we go, we travel the last two weeks of January and then the first two week of January the following year.

Is that possible? Understand that it’s cutting the dates fine for expiry but means that technically, two trips in a year would cost £1084 for two of us (platinum pass plus) as apposed to two 14 day tickets each costing £1420?

Does that make sense?

OP's DVC . They just expanded the DVC discount to nearly all table service. OP can get TIW anyway as a DVC member but given there's now 10% DVC discount off every table service anyway, break even point for TIW would be high and likely not worth the $150. OP won't see any benefit really from buying an AP. 14 day UK tickets are the best option.

We also do the calculation every time, next trip as we have a cruise and Universal as well we wanted 5-7 days Disney so we bought the DVC discounted 7 days for price of 5 tickets.

Our calculations are different every time spending on when e go and for how long. We have bought the annual pass and also sometimes just disney tickets direct from Disney US depending on how many nights we want which is always different

Yes it makes sense, that's exactly what I'm doing this year: a trip second half of September this year, first half next year. An AP gives also some additional discounts sometime. For example last two years they added in September a 30% discount on some signature restaurants when dining early or after 8pm. I hope they'll do it again this year.
